AT&T launches Sidekick-lookalike Sharp FX
Sharp was the company that manufactured T-Mobile’s Sidekick line of phones. They were also the ones making Microsoft’s Kin One and Kin Two . Neither of those lines has proven to be a real mass-market success in the USA, but Sharp seem set to adopt the “pick yourself up and try again” philosophy. Hence, the Sharp FX, just officially unveiled by AT&T.

Tri-band CDMA, QWERTY-packing Motorola WX404 shows up at the FCC
Documentation on FCC’s website has managed to leak a yet-unannounced Motorola handset, the WX404. This is a pretty unassuming featurephone, has a full QWERTY keyboard, tri-band 850/1700/1900 MHz CDMA radios, camera, USB port and headset jack. The draft user manual adds references to Bluetooth, microSD card support, a media player of sorts and Qualcomm’s BREW platform. As always with phones that show up at the FCC, details are indeed scarce at this point. Judging from the CDMA bands it supports, it may be headed to either Cricket, MetroPCS, or both

AVR Guardian filters out dogs
Cats and dogs can get along quite nicely when they are raised up together. The problem with this type of arrangement tends to be keeping dogs out of the cat box and away from the cat food. [Ryan Meuth] tried out a simple electronic barrier to keep the dog away . It uses an IR transmitter and receiver to shine a beam of invisible light across the doorway to his cat room. In the demo after the break you’ll see that he took steps to make sure the cats don’t set off the alarm.

Verizon’s Motorola Droid 2 prepped for August 23rd launch
One of the most leaked handsets in recent history seems to be getting closer to an actual release date. While general consensus within the information leaks of the past few months was that the Droid 2 will land in August , new details have surfaced. A few shots from a production facility have popped up, and these seem to more or less confirm that launch will occur sooner, rather than later. A release on August 23rd is to be expected, apparently. Whether the Droid 2 will be running Android 2.2 Froyo or just Android 2.1 on launch is still unclear

CableBox Mini – Doesn’t Sacrifice Form for Function
Bluelounge makes a variety of products that are sophisticated as much they are simple. Most of their items offer unique and interesting ways to organize the home or office. Just recently announced, their CableBox Mini, which is a successor to their popular CableBox, allows for multiple grounded electronic devices to be grouped together into a single power source. Power strips are a dime a dozen and most home offices have at least one. While the generic power strip functions well it looks awful.
