Horizon debuts H-Cell 2.0 hydrogen fuel cell system for R/C cars
We just checked out Horizon Fuel Cell Technologies’ personal MiniPak fuel cell charger at CES last month, but the company’s already back with another product that promises to take fuel cells where you might not expect them: hobbyist R/C cars. That comes courtesy of the company’s new H-Cell 2.0 hydrogen fuel cell system, which is an add-on kit that’s designed to replicate the full-scale hydrogen systems now being used on actual cars. In fact, it can even be refueled using a model-scale hydrogen refueling station, which itself can be outfitted with solar panels or wind turbines for a completely carbon-free experience. No word on pricing just yet, but the kit will apparently be available on March 15th — head on past the break for a quick video demonstration. Potentially nasty new iPhone security flaw discovered
Wuh-oh! Considering its popularity and the number of handsets floating around out there compared to the number of security exploits discovered thus far, I’d say Apple has done a pretty good job of keeping things locked down. As this just-discovered flaw proves, however, nobody’s perfect. You can read the full technical details of the exploit here , but to make one hell of a long story short: the iPhone allows settings configuration files to be installed over-the-air through Safari, primarily to help enterprise businesses setup a bunch of iPhones as quickly as possible. We’ve known this for a while – it’s a crucial part of easily enabling tethering on jailbroken iPhones . The user must must confirm the installation manually, and the iPhone tells you who it’s from and whether or not it’s a trusted source – which (we hope) most would be smart enough not to do in standard cases.

A Quarter Century On … Billboard’s Top 100 of 1985!
My wife and I coach an Odyssey of the Mind team through our kids’ school. Odyssey of the Mind is a creative problem solving program focused on teamwork and kid-only solutions of challenged they work on all through the school year. (I coached Destination Imagination back in Massachusetts for several years, and it is very similar). Our team this year has a problem they are solving, and their solution has led them to events that happened in 1985, and as such they have been looking at the popular culture ‘way back then’

Mini External Mic for iPhone from Maximobileshop.com is cool
I just received in this cheeky little gadget from Maximobileshop.com – it’s a mini external microphone for the Apple ( NSDQ: AAPL ) iPhone (and some iPod) devices. It’s quite a simple concept – much like a wired headset with an inline mic, this does away with all the cabling and just gives you a module you can plug in.

Xperia X1 and Android 2.0.1 joined in unholy matrimony
Tired of waiting for the Xperia X10 for your first taste of Android and Sony Ericsson ? Leave it to the gang at the XDA-developers forum to jump the gun. Last week marked the successful port of Android 2.0.1 (or Android 1.6, if you so choose) to the Xperia X1 . No bluetooth, camera, or GPS — not yet, at any rate — but WiFI, GSM, resistive touchscreen, and all the other amenities should be functioning.

Upcoming BlackBerry Packing Both Trackpad and SurePress Screen?
We’ve been seeing a lot of an in-the-works device from RIM sporting both a full physical QWERTY keyboard and a clicking touchscreen, code-named the BlackBerry Magnum or Dakota . TD analyst Chris Umiatowski has it on good word that there will be a BlackBerry ( NSDQ: RIMM ) that has those features as well as an optical trackpad. At first, I thought having the two input mechanisms would be redundant, but a lot of Android handsets are pulling it off these days. The absence of any kind of directional navigation was the key characteristic of the previously leaked device (above), although it was said that it was a prototype that would never see production

OMG OMG OMG: An iPhone 4G Spy Shot
Because I love watching all the fanboys pop Apple boners and then yelling, “QUICK — EVERBODY LOOK!” while pointing and laughing, this is allegedly an iPhone 4G prototype sitting atop an iPad prototype . As you can see, it looks like a blurry iPhone. Possibly with a black bezel instead of a chrome one. But what really baffles me is why they decided to print ‘Eng’ on part of the screen

Next iPhone found in new SDK, codenamed N89, has support for 720p video recording
Apple launched the iPad exactly 1 week ago today , and although they said it wasn’t going to be shipping for another 60 days, they were nice enough to post a new version of the iPhone SDK (3.2) so that developers can start working on their new higher definition versions of iFart. Inside that SDK there just so happens to be some information about the next iPhone. Codenamed N89, the next iPhone has support for 720p video recording and version 3.1 of the AVC codec according to the MediaValidator.plist file that stores what types of media a device can handle. Does this mean the iPhone can record 720p video or simply be able to play it back?

Forget Branded Mobile Apps, Sponsorships Are Making A Comeback In Mobile Marketing
Mobile apps, and especially branded apps, are all the rage now-a-days, but a resurgence in the lost art of sponsorship is making a comeback, and brands are shifting their thinking because of it. Steve Smith of MediaPost published a great article recently that talks about sponsorships in terms of mobile marketing, and what benefits the concept provides over branded apps. Marketers are increasingly realizing that not every brand translates easily into the kind of utility consumers really want on their phone, and thus sponsorships are becoming a more attractive option

Pegatron on board to make next iPhone, might do 720p video recording?
The silly little sensor in the latest-gen iPod nano might have you thinking that high-quality video recording isn’t anywhere on Apple’s radar, but if you look in the smartphone space, HD video is shaping up to be the next gotta-have-it feature among the world’s most buzzworthy handsets — and sure enough, we’re getting some hints here that it’ll be on board the next iPhone. Remember that mysterious “N89″ device in the iPhone OS 3.2 SDK? We’ve been tipped off that a gander at the MediaValidator.plist file reveals a few telling stats: the maximum video width is up from 768 pixels to 1280, and the maximum number of pixels per frame is up to 921,600, which just happens to work out to 1280 x 720. The device’s AVC profile has been bumped from 3.0 to 3.1, too, which adds in support for 720p — so yeah, all the signs are there, and industry trends pretty much require that we expect it at this point. On a related note, DigiTimes notes that ASUS spin-off Pegatron has allegedly been picked up as an OEM for the N89 (or whatever the new iPhone’s internal code happens to be) — but it won’t be alone
