Previously Canada’s big three (Bell, Telus and Rogers) had announced it would be coming later this year. However the team over at TheBerryFix got word that Canada’s very own Telus Mobility might be gearing up for a mid-September launch. The rumor points to September 16th as the possible Canadian launch date for the Torch 9800. Sadly nothing is confirmed as of yet, including pricing.

Nokia C6 Review: The good, the bad and the smart
Introduction Ever since it’s release under the Nokia’s Cseries branding, the Nokia C6 was bound to attract some attention. And for a good reason. The budget price range is quite unusual for what it offers in return: attractive design, a touchscreen enforced with a slide-out qwerty keyboard and all the connectivity you can eat, including voice guided GPS navigation. With a few caveats, it’s not difficult to spot the simple yet beautiful concept behind the Nokia C6 – you get what you see, without going into overdrive with expenses.

Rethinking Device Convergence–The Video Experience
If one is to consider using a single mobile device for all their multimedia needs, serious consideration has to be paid to the capabilities of the device for video purposes. In my first article on my decision to give mobile device convergence a serious try for the first time in many years, I listed video viewing as a key reason for carrying and using a dedicated portable media player (a Zune HD)

More sample images. (This is getting ridiculous now)
Just happened across some images by a flickr user named sheridan01. Supposedly they came from a Nokia N8. A few of the images are a bit out of focus and the flash seemed to cause a bit of blue tinting (doubt the flash was needed for those photos)

My Nokia Blog grows again.
In Jay’s absence I’d like to say a heartfelt thank you to all the readers of this blog for helping to sustain the growth of this blog. Jay, being pessimistic as he is , said at the end of June that in spite of the growth of the blog readership ~300,000 readers over the course of month, he expected that we couldn’t possibly get any larger. Well the stats are in for the month of July. Some how we managed to rope in 314,000 of you Nokia aficionados over the course of the month

Europe Tops List of Safest Outsourcing Spots
In the context of global sourcing and new emerging locations, security and safety concerns are becoming the top issue for companies considering outsourcing their IT projects to cost efficient locations offshore . In this respect, the annual research conducted by the Black Book of Outsourcing with the rankings of the most dangerous / safest outsourcing spots around the globe attracts great attention among companies as a reference point for long-term business strategies. The latest research for 2010 interviewed 3,100 corporate development leaders, including more than 400 outsourcing customers, to indicate their company’s inclination to consider specific offshore locations for outsourcing (including IT outsourcing and BPO). The survey asked respondents to rank those cities on various perceived threats and weaknesses, including geopolitical risk, terrorist threats, climate concerns, legal maturity, environmental waste and pollution, IT and telecom infrastructure security, and crime rates. According to the 2010 results, Central/Eastern Europe (CEE) tops the list of the safest offshore locations, while Pakistan, Colombia, and Mexico top The Black Book of Outsourcing’s 2010 list of the most dangerous places for offshoring.

Smartphone Sales Boom, but Symbian Still Rules
There are various reports out today, detailing the incredible growing popularity of smartphone devices. Firstly, iPhone sales in the UK are predicted to rise by an amazing 195% this year, taking Apple’s share of the UK market to 7.9%, with forecasts suggesting that by the end of 2012 the iPhone will account for one in ten of mobile handsets for UK users. Pretty impressive numbers, and the same is to be said for Google’s increasingly popular Android OS. Available on a wide variety of devices, the Android operating system is available on handsets from leading manufacturers such as HTC , Samsung and Motorola . According to Google CEO Eric Shmidt, 200,000 Android devices are being activated worldwide, every day.

Element Youth Mobile Marketing Campaign including Crowdharnessing
Element – Claim it! from Morten Halvorsen on Vimeo . A friend and former colleague in the US shared this mobile marketing campaign with me several months ago and it provided such a perfect (and rare) example of how to bridge the gap between the real and virtual world, that I have been using it continuously since then. The campaign for sporting goods/Sporting brand Elements manages to pull off creating a well-targeted app (just for urban skaters), with a strong viral element (competition for the best skating stunt allowing skaters to ‘claim their spot’), an integrated digital experience (a customised website linking to the mobile site) and rich mobile features (location plus video) as well as social media/crowd harnessing (the best skater videos were uploaded to the official Elements website). The promotional side involved giveaways of branded gear at ‘on-the-spot’ competitions, the cherry on the cake for what was undoubtedly one of the most complete, well thought out mobile campaigns I’ve witnessed in the last couple of years. You can see the explanatory video above which illustrates clearly how all the various elements of the campaign fit together.

Nokia C7 gets FCC approval
Oooh look what the guys from engadgetmobile just found out. What you’re seeing here is the leaked image of the C7 front (top) compared to the label diagram of a model code RM-718 that just got FCC approval, featuring quadband EDGE, HSPA 850 / AWS / 1900 / 2100, Bluetooth, and WiFi — should end up slotting behind the N8 while still carrying over the 640 x 360 display and Symbian^3, so it should be a good lower-cost alternative. That begs the question where is the N8 or has it already been approved secretly……… Nokia World cant come quick enough I’d say…… via e ngadgetmobile
