Telenav’s AT&T Navigator gets update

AT&T Navigator just got an update from TeleNav, to version 1.7i. The new features include integration of multitasking on the new iPhone OS. The next highlight is of course speech recognition where you can just say an address or search for something using just your voice. Other upgrades are traffic camera alerts, lane assistance, smoother 3D navigation, and the background battery saver mode.

Today, T-Mobile announced the addition of the LG Optimus T to its Android handset lineup. The Optimus T is being billed as an affordable, easy-to-use Android device for the masses. The press release is pretty light on specs, but we do find out that the device has a 3.2 megapixel camera, capacitive touchscreen display, and will run stock Android 2.2. The device is also a “with Google” production. The Optimus will come with a 2 GB micro-SD card and can be expanded to up to a 32 GB card

Nielsen: Android is the No.1 choice for new smartphone buyers in the US

The Nielsen Company has published research claiming that Android accounted for 32% of new smartphones bought in the US between January and August this year. That means Google’s OS has overtaken BlackBerry. However, when it comes to all smartphone owners, BlackBerry is still top dog in the US with a 31% market share, although Apple is up to 28%, and Android climbing fast with 19%. This is a significant development and the future for Android taking a commanding lead in the nearest future isnt going to be far-fetched

T-Mobile announces the LG Optimus T, an affordable Android smartphone

As this year’s end comes closer, LG is making inroads into the smartphone market in hopes to deliver at least in part on their claims about smartphone launches in 2010 . A big part of LG’s strategy relies on Android, and more specifically on the LG Optimus One , a device that will presumably launch with 120 operators in 90 countries. Today, T-Mobile have officially announced the LG Optimus T, which looks like it’s an Optimus One made especially for T-Mobile. The Optimus T will be aimed at first-time smartphone buyers. It will come with Android 2.2 and deep integration with Google services including Voice actions (customers can control the phone by speaking commands to call, text, email, find directions and so on).

US Cellular gets its own Galaxy S, the Samsung Mesmerize – available October 27th

Samsung has provided all the big four Tier 1 US carriers with customized versions of its Galaxy S Android smartphone, and now it looks like it is starting to focus on smaller and/or regional carriers. As such, US Cellular have announced today that they are launching their very own Galaxy S device, the Samsung Mesmerize (SCH-i500). The Mesmerize, as other Galaxy S versions, features a 4-inch Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen, a 1 GHz Samsung Hummingbird processor, a 5 megapixel camera with HD video recording, 3.5 mm headset jack, microSD card slot, WiFi with DLNA support, Bluetooth, Android 2.1 (an Android 2.2 upgrade is coming “later this year”)

Verizon is busy investing in and developing its next-generation LTE network across the United States. LTE is a technology that will allow for faster data speeds than current generation 3G or WiMax networks, and also, perhaps even more important for some use-cases, significantly lower latencies.
