Samsung to show a bada phone at Mobile World Congress?
Fun Fact: if you were to run a Google Image Search for “bada” at the time I published this post, you wouldn’t find a single image relevant to Samsung’s up and coming bada operating system until the third page, otherwise known as “that page that no one goes to because they gave up hope of finding the image they wanted after page 2.” Maybe that’ll change once Samsung shows off a smartphone running the operating system – which, if this statement from ol’ Sammie themselves is any indication, might be as soon as two weeks from now. In a post on the bada blog from earlier today, Samsung (very briefly) sheds some light on some of the User Experience features of the OS

USB Recycle Bin For Flash Drives
iBin is a portable application designed for USB stick so users can restore files which have been accidentally deleted. Since Windows does not redirect a deleted file off the OS into the Recycle Bin, once a user clicks delete, it’s gone forever [well unless you use restore tools to get it back], but iBin resolves that problem. iBin puts your deleted files in a container on the USB drive itself and sits quietly until your custom flash drive gets to capacity, then you’ll need to do a bit of house cleaning. iBin includes a collection of management features to set the preferences of the iBin. Items such as confirmation of where to put the “deleted” file, iBin size, how to erase and when to dump the iBin data. All in all, this is an excellent application for users to add one additional layer of safety for the delete button.

kinekt gear ring: the only ring a geek would ever want
This unique creation looks to me like one cool ring, one of the rare rings that I’m actually interested in, other than the One ring to rule them all . It’s called the Kinekt Gear Ring, and it’s a perfect gift for any tinkerer or mechanically-inclined geek. In fact, anyone that likes to fidget with things will probably get highly addicted to spinning the embedded gears of this ring

LG announces 20” OLED TVs this year, 30” in 2011, 40” in 2012
Section: Video , HDTV OLED TVs have not been in active development for some time now, but LG has decided to pursue large screen production of OLED screens. In August 2009, LG announced a 15-inch OLED TV priced at 3 million wons (about $2565). Attempting to raise the bar in 2010, LG announced that it would volume-produce 20-inch class large-size OLED panels in 2010, and subsequently 30-inch class in 2011, and 40-inch class in 2012. Answering a question in everyone’s mind, Vice President Won Kim, in charge of OLED Sales & Marketing at the firm said: “They may be expensive, but it will be possible to buy a 40-inch class OLED TV in 2012.” He didn’t exactly use the word “cheap” or “reasonable”, which brings to mind how possible it is to buy one in 2012

Activator: a free and extremely powerful jailbreak app launcher for iPhone [Jailbreak Apps]
The power of Ryan Petrich’s Activator (free on Cydia) dawned on me only this weekend. Activator is used in the excellent Overboard and ProSwitcher apps to launch them with gestures, status bar taps, and hardware button presses. I had heard that these options should soon be applicable to BigBoss’s SBSettings panel, but that hasn’t happened yet. What has happened, though, is even better: you can now choose to launch any of your installed applications using any of the gestures and actions that Activator supports. There are also a number of system shortcuts (respring, reset, turn off, lock, etc.) that you can control as well.

Ditch your landline for the netTALK TK6000
I’ve wanted to ditch my analog phone for years now, but keep holding on to it due to the fact that I have a T1 line in my home and it’s needed for support reasons. If I didn’t need that line, I’d definitely consider the TK6000 from netTALK . Unlike some VOIP (Voice over IP) products such as the Magic Jack, the netTALK is a one time only purchase of about $100, with no monthly fees. A computer isn’t needed, just plug the module into your broadband router and into a regular landline phone and you’re ready for free local and long distance calls within the US and … [ visit site to read more ] Filed in categories: Home Tech , News , Spotlight Gadgets Tagged: VoIP Ditch your landline for the netTALK TK6000 originally appeared on The Gadgeteer on February 1, 2010 at 12:41 pm.
