Bell Canada actively testing LTE, data calls already completed

Yesterday, Rogers announced the launch of a “comprehensive LTE wireless network technical trial with Ericsson Canada in the Ottawa area.” An announcement that seemed to put Rogers head and shoulders above Canada’s other wireless providers. Today, we’ve been informed that Bell Canada may actually be one-step ahead of Rogers in the 4G, LTE arms-race. Speaking on the phone with Bell representatives, we were told that the company has already competed LTE data calls — they were conducted this summer — and that Bell currently has LTE test markets deployed in Montreal and Hamilton. Bell reiterated that they are on the forefront of LTE innovation and deployment and that their customers will have the opportunity to utilize the 4G technology in the near future. Companies competing to be the: first, fastest, best

Call of Duty: Black Ops in Stereoscopic 3D

Playstation 3, Xbox 360, and PC gamers will be able to get a touch of the three dimensional come November 9. Deciding to try something a bit new, and trendy, the Call of Duty series is going 3D, “day one, out of the box”, according to Mark Lamia, the head of the Treyarch Studio. All you need to make this work is one of those ridiculously expensive 3D HDTVs or an NVIDIA 3D Vision-ready PC, along with those ridiculously cheesy active shutter glasses. The stereoscopic 3D will work in all of Black Ops’ modes, including multiplayer

Brick-Breaking Competition Awaits with Splash Duel HD

Splash Duel HD is like a hybrid of  Breakout and air hockey. In many ways it combines the best of both games and creates a very addicting experience. Just like Breakout you must bounce balls off of bricks with a paddle. Splash Duel HD is set in an underwater world, so expect a coral background and the steady sound of the deep as background noise.

Has Research In Motion Cancelled The BlackBerry Storm 9570 Refresh For All?

Not a week ago, rumors started spreading that Verizon cancelled the BlackBerry Storm 9570 which was basically a BlackBerry 6 capable refresh of the BlackBerry Storm2 9550.  It actually looks like, however, that Research in Motion has canceled the BlackBerry Storm 9570 for all. Head after the jump to see what RIM had to say to a BlackBerry developer about their application intended for the BlackBerry Storm Refresh… “Thank you for your hard work and diligence in preparing your application to support the upcoming hardware refresh of the BlackBerry Storm2 smartphone (model number 9570, codename R027)

Android Is Listening To Users: New Models Correcting Past Mistakes

Android is one of the leading models of smartphone around, with many iPhone users transferring over to the Motorola phone and citing small improvements such as ‘non-obtrusive’ notifications, a more effective keyboard, and more freedom over customization and programming of apps. By the sounds of things, the Droid is really listening to smartphone users and working at full steam to correct past mistakes – something that the iPhone isn’t so good at.

Universal Voice Search Coming To BlackBerry 6

One of the really cool things that I like about Android is the ability to search for anything  by talking into your device.  Rumor has it that Universal Voice Search is coming to BlackBerry 6 in an upcoming update.  BlackBerry 6 users will be able to search contacts, email, calendar, tasks, apps, online services and even inside apps that are built to work with search. T-Mobile Samsung Vibrant (Galaxy S) GPS-fixing OTA update on the way

Just before the end of last month an update for T-Mobile’s Samsung Vibrant made its way to Samsung’s Kies desktop software and was then promptly pulled. T-Mobile advised against people updating to that, and subsequently told us that they’ll have more news about an over the air update for the Vibrant this week. And that they do.

BlackBerry News From The Wire for the Week of 10/4/2010

It appears as tough we’re down to one final BlackBerry launch for 2010. For a while we thought we were getting two new devices before year’s end, the Style 9670 and the Storm 9570. It looks like we’ll only get one of them. While we heard last week that Verizon was canceling the 9670, we held out hope that another carrier would pick it up. Alas, it appears that isn’t in the cards.

How To: Run LED Solo From PCless USB Connector

Do you see something odd about this picture?  Maybe the fact an LED is illuminating from a USB connector with no PC in site?  Ya that’s it.  Good job Sherlock . So what we have here is a How To or USB Hack on running an LED from a Super-capacitor.  If you are non-technical, then we basically mean a very short lived battery to run the LED.  A super-capacitor has the ability to store energy for longer periods of time over traditional capacitors – yet still not long enough as with batteries. The concept of this tutorial is to wire a super-capacitor to a USB socket whereby your computer can charge up the capacitor and when disconnected you’ll get about 10 minutes of LED illumination. Granted there isn’t much day-to-day use with this USB hack, but just a fun little project if you have the time. Over on the Instructables website there is an updated USB tutorial which includes (more…) Powered By: 2010 USB Powered Gadgets and more.

Gresso Luxor World Time unveiled as the world’s first phone with world time function

Yes, the title of the news is a bit redundant, but I couldn’t help it. In a press release that would make any Engrish speaker proud, luxury phone maker Gresso has announced its latest creation: the Luxor World Time – which, as you’ve surely noticed by now, comes with a “world time function.” More exactly, the phone features six independent “Swiss clockwork mechanisms” embedded on the back.
