By Andrew Liszewski Working in a home office can get a little boring at times, so ThinkGeek has once again come to the rescue with this pair of electronic blinking eyes from Japan that will allow you to anthropomorphize any inanimate object in your home to become your new best friend. They attach to almost anything via suction cups or hooks and the mechanical shutter mechanism stays synced between the two eyes at all times thanks to an IR signal

We’re also seeing more games with remote multiplayer functions, so you can play friends, or even a random stranger, over your mobile connection. We’re also seeing more tie-ins with social services. All of this is why I think that games like WordRival will get even better in the near future

Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex Ultra-Portable Drive and eSATA Upgrade Cable Review

My laptop has a lot of very important things on it.  I have documents that I created or scanned in.  I have tons of music that I bought from iTunes or invested hours ripping from CDs.  I have hundreds of ebooks.  We switched to digital cameras years ago, so most of the pictures I have of my daughter and all the pictures I have of the last few years of my parents’ lives are digital.  Backups are VERY important to me.  I currently have a Seagate external drive that I use for backup.  That disk works well except for its size.  It’s a big disk with an external power source, and it’s too big to fit on the tiny table I use for my laptop.  I keep the backup drive on my sofa’s end table, and I’ve accidentally pulled it to the floor on more than one occasion while moving my laptop desk around.  I’ve been lucky so far that the disk hasn’t been damaged, but I’m afraid my luck won’t hold out forever.  I was thrilled when Julie asked me to review a 500GB Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex Ultra-portable USB 2.0 external disk.  I already liked Seagate drives, and I knew that the small form factor of this disk would work better with my cramped workspace.

Review: ColorBlast! (iPhone)

App Store Link The absence of something often helps to accentuate another element’s presence. A song played after a day of silence always sounds sweeter; a splash of colour in a black and white photo highlights its vibrancy and draws attention to its presence. This last aspect is what the creators of ColorBlast! have focused

HP Confirm WebOS Smartphones

No surprises really, given HP purchased WebOS via its recent acquisition of Palm, but HP have confirmed the forthcoming launch of some new WebOS handsets in early 2011. Senior HP Vice President Eric Cador confirmed the forthcoming handset releases, which could be given an official airing at the CES Trade Show in Las Vegas. The Palm Pre has been a steady, if unspectacular handset, yet many devotees of the WebOS claim it is one of the best operating systems currently available for a mobile device. Cador is quoted as saying “You will see us coming early next year with new phones” without giving further detail on what form or features the new smartphones may offer. We shall keep watch with interest.

Open-source hardware statement of principles and draft definition 0.4

A new statement of principles and draft definition 0.4 is up for Open-source hardware – your feedback and participation is needed! After the Open-source Hardware summit one of the requests was for all of us to figure out an “overview” of what/why we do this. We think we have a good start based on what many people have helped outline – here’s the draft: Open Source Hardware (OSHW) Statement of Principles (Draft) Open source hardware is hardware whose design is made publicly available so that anyone can study, modify, distribute, make and sell the design or hardware based on that design. The hardware’s source, the design from which it is made, is available in the preferred format for making modifications to it.
