Verizon comes clean and announces the Android-powered Motorola DEVOUR with MOTOBLUR
The Verizon-bound Motorola Devour wasn’t much of a secret after the retail packaging leaked last week . We knew it was coming, but not so soon because big red VZW just announced it to the world. Don’t get too excited though, it’s not a Droid replacement as Android 1.6 is powering it instead of 2.0. That doesn’t mean it’s not another fine phone to add to Verizon’s stable.

DIY Cell Phone Range Extender Works From 1,000 Feet Below Ground
A sixteen year old teenager from new Mexico called Alexander Kendrick has developed a device that can be used to send text messages from up to 1,000 feet underground. Alexander Kendrick won the 2009 international science fair for his DIY device that lets you send a text message from a mobile phone deep below the earth’s surface. The device is designed to be used in caves, and it sends data using low frequency radio waves that can penetrate the rock easier than high frequency transmissions.

Each weekday morning we feature a different “special” from our GearSponsor LogicBuy . For a while, it has been the site I went to first when looking for deals on electronics. (In fact, it’s where I found deals on my mother-in-law’s GPS and her HP notebook!!) For the past few months I’ve been the one posting the daily GearDeal from LogicBUY. As a result, I have become increasingly familiar with their site=.

How-To: Quick ‘n’ dirty analog pressure sensor
There are lots of ways to make homebrew pressure sensors, but this method from Instructables user hiskeyd is the easiest I’ve seen: Jam two stripped wires into a piece of static dissipative foam and bend the ends over to keep them from pulling out.

Blu Homes folding modular house caught on video
I am lucky to live in an area where the weather is hot in the summer, but mild in the winter allowing for year round home construction. This helps keep prices low on homes, a home selling for $500,000 in California might be only $100,000 here. Some people who live in areas where the cost of homes can be expensive look to alternative construction methods like modular housing. A slick video of a Blu Element modular home being unfolded in place has turned up and it is amazing to see the process required to set the home up.

Open-PC is the nettop for those who won’t be constrained by you and your corporate ways
Nettops come in all sorts of shapes, from Wii would-bes to keyboard come-alongs , but they’re all small, and most are running some variant of Windows. Not the Open-PC. It isn’t particularly svelte (345 x 425 x 100mm) and it is entirely free of commercial software, with a KDE core neatly wrapped in a collection of free software. It was designed by the community, specifications and even price determined by a set of surveys, and by the end of the month it will be available to those who said they wanted it — meaning it’s put up or shut up time, Linux fans. Price is €359 (including a $10 donation to the KDE project), a bit steep for a machine rocking an Atom N330 processor, 3GB of RAM, and a 160GB hard drive, but then again you can’t put a price on stickin’ it to the man

Anyway, at Amazon and Newegg the 16GB Zune HD is now $189.99 (a $30 savings) and the 32GB Zune HD is now $249.99 (a $40 savings).

Walmart & Best Buy Duck Out Of Used Games Market
Image courtesy of CinemaBlend Last spring Walmart and Best Buy made big news by announcing that they were entering the used game exchange business via a kiosk system. There were plenty of articles about what it meant for places like Gamestop and on-line game trading sites like Goozex. In the end, none of the hand-wringing and teeth-gnashing mattered much, as both companies have now stepped back out of the market, according to a report at MTV’s Multiplayer blog .

Intel swings 25nm factory doors open for a tour de fab
Intel and Micron’s recent announcement that their collective superhero body, appropriately named IM Flash , is sampling 25nm flash chips has been accompanied with a whirlwind tour of their Utah production facilities for a few lucky journalists. PC Perspective bring us the atmospheric photo above, along with some videos, as they prance about one of the most hallowed (and cleanest) environments known to gadget lovers. Apart from the die shrink, the lads also discuss Intel’s reputed plans for a G3 SSD refresh some time “later this year” with snappier controllers onboard, which apparently was echoed by Micron who also intend to pump out faster processors with their SSD products. While you wait for all that to happen, hit the source link to find out how and where the stuff that gets put inside SSDs is made. Next Generation Apple iPhone, iPod Touch Spotted In iPhone SDK
The guys over at Engadget have spotted some new codenames in the latest Apple [AAPL] iPhone SDK for a couple of new devices which could relate to the next generation of the Apple iPhone and iPod Touch. The codenames were found in a set of folders within the platform simulator in the SDK, the codename N89 was spotted which according to Engadget refers to the next generation Apple iPhone. Also spotted in the SDK was the codename N80, which likely refers to the next generation iPod Touch. This would tie in with Apple’s annual update of the iPhone since launch and we are likely to see the next generation iPhone released sometime before June if Apple follows their previous pattern. It is not clear what Apple will call the next generation iPhone, could it be the iPhone 4G
