I’ve never really understood the fascination some folks seem to have with making their one mobile device look very much like a completely different one – making a Windows Mobile phone look like an iPhone, or an iPhone look like a Blackberry or a Windows machine, and so on. So even though I’m already quite the iPad fanboy, I’ve got no interest in turning my iPhone into a mini iPad mockup. For those who do appreciate making these sort of transformations, good news – there are already several iPad themes out for the iPhone (if you’re jailbroken of course and running Winterboard). Engadget’s got a post up with a video that shows you how to combine an iPad theme with the Shrink app to reduce your icon size and other effects to bring the iPad UI to your iPhone. Available in some European markets since December last year, the Samsung B5722 Duos has just been launched in India , becoming the country’s first dual SIM phone from Samsung . The B5722 Duos doesn’t have 3G, but it supports two SIM cards at the same time and allows users to switch between them without turning the phone off. The handset’s features include: 2.8 inch QVGA touchscreen display (resistive), Bluetooth, Music player, DNSe technology for 3D sound, FM radio with RDS, 3MP camera and MicroSD card support (up to 8GB). The B5722 Duos also provides easy access to popular social networking websites, as well as to Parlingo messenger, Google Talk, ICQ and AIM. Samsung B5722 Duos costs 11,680 INR ($254) and should be available across India as of now.

Section: Gadgets / Other , ebooks The whole mess with Macmillan and Amazon seems likely to spread to others at this point, which ultimately sounds like it will be bad news for Kindle customers in the long run. Just to recap, Macmillan was upset because of the $9.99 pricing with Amazon, Amazon pulled their content , Amazon then later allowed them back in at the prices they wanted . Now it seems that others are taking note of this and sensing some weakness in the whole $9.99 Amazon pricing deal. The latest is Rupert Murdoch and his Harper Collins and he has recently stated that he sees Amazon is now “willing to sit down” and “renegotiate.” The important part here is nothing has changed, but that seems to come with a big ‘yet’ at the end because Murdoch also went on to state that the Apple deal “does allow some flexibility and higher prices.” On a slightly positive note, he did continue on to say that the ebook pricing will remain lower than print editions

If you’re the figurehead for a company then you have to be pretty confident about your products, but even with that in mind ARM chief executive Warren East is aiming high .  The outspoken CEO reckons ARM processors will take a big chunk out of the netbook market, a market which he predicts will eventually come to represent 90-percent of the PC industry.  In fact the one thing holding ARM chips back, East reckons, is the lack of Windows support for them. “What’s holding it back is people’s love of the Microsoft operating system and that fact that it’s familiar and so on. But actually the trajectory of progress in the Linux world is very, very impressive.

We knew it was coming , and now, it is here. Today, Verizon Wireless and Motorola officially announced the Motorola DEVOUR’s availability on America’s largest wireless carrier. As previously reported, this Android handset will come complete with MOTOBLUR, a 3.1″ capacitive touch screen, touch-sensitive track pad, 3G connectivity, aGPS, Bluetooth, and a micro-SD card slot. The device will fall under Verizon’s list of “advanced devices” and require a $29.99 data plan and, presumably, will come with a $350 early termination fee as well

Patience is a virtue, but as tech fanatics who lap up the latest in hardware and software, we’ve not enirely familiar with that concept. So when we heard that it could take up to a few days for the Nexus One Android OTA update , it was a little disheartening.

Motorola has just announced its second Android phone for Verizon (after the Droid): the Motorola Devour , previously known as Motorola Calgary . Unlike the Droid, the Motorola Devour runs Android 1.6 and features the MotoBlur interface – which “syncs contacts from work and personal e-mail services, including Gmail, with posts, messages, photos and more from popular sites such as Facebook, MySpace and Twitter.” The Devour has a 3.1 inch HVGA (320 x 480) capacitive touchscreen display and a full QWERTY keyboard

Along with Apple’s long-standing partnership with manufacturer Foxconn, Asus subsidiary Pegatron Technology will reportedly manufacture Apple’s next-generation iPhone. Per Taiwanese industry publication DigiTimes , Pegatron Technology has been selected by Apple for OEM production of the next-gen iPhone, expected to debut this summer. Pegatron will join Foxconn in manufacturing the handsets, industry sources reportedly said. Although Pegatron officially declined to comment, the report noted that the company expects its handset shipments to “grow substantially in 2010″.

Nikon’s Coolpix S1000pj camera/pico projector combo hasn’t exactly taken the world by storm, but we’re guessing it took a little while before Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups became a global phenomenon, too. If reports from DigiTimes prove to be true, Sony wants to be front and center to meet the eventual demand for such cameras, working with Opus Microsystems to license its laser-based scanning mirror chips, projector tech that sounds similar to Microvision’s Show WX . Word is that other camera manufacturers are working with Texas Instruments for the development of their own pico-packing cams, relying on TI’s DLP-based tech found in the S1000pj and a variety of other devices . Which will rule the roost?

Motorola has announced that the cool DEVOUR slider phone will be landing on the Verizon Wireless network. The handset is the first Motorola device for Verizon to feature MOTOBLUR , the company’s Android social networking aggregator service.  Packing a slider form-factor similar to the  DROID , the DEVOUR has a smaller 3.1-inch HVGA capacitive touchscreen along with a hardware QWERTY keyboard, 3-megapixel autofocus camera and EVDO Rev.A
