iphone merges with palm

I look a good design concept as much as the next guy, but the designer of the iPhone Next Generation concept has balls bigger than an iPad to rip off Steve Jobs’ gadget. Samuel Lee Kwon, watch out for Apple legal ninjas and keep an eye on the mail box for the inevitable cease and desist that is coming your way. Apple’s ire aside, this is one awesome design concept

advice please

*♥MizKitty♥* /Sam posted a photo: my camera has been a faithful retainer for several years. It is a Panasonic point & shoot with a really good zoom ability which is important to me. BUT it is on its last legs. I would like a slightly fancier camera, maybe a bridge camera between SLR and p&s (cos I can’t be arsed to faff about with lenses, etc.). Can anyone recommend a good camera that even a doltish slacker like myself could find their way around?

Kingston Data Traveler Ultimate USB 3.0 Flash Drive Review

More and more companies are certainly getting on the SuperSpeed Flash Drive train! The latest to bring out a USB 3.0 equipped flash drive is Kingston with their Data Traveler Ultimate 3.0 model. On paper, this flash drive’s 80MB/s read and 60MB/s write specifications are a little on the low side, though it still eons better than the previous generation Data Traveler. As with most things paper and reality can be completely different, so how does this drive REALLY compare to some other USB 3.0 flash drives

Sketching with the Nokia N900

The N900 was perhaps the most interesting device that Nokia brought market last year. Regular readers will know that I am far more interested in the concept of a pocket computer than a smart phone, the N900 is clearly more computer than phone. As such you would expect people to attempt to use the N900 for the kind of tasks that they would normal perform on a regular computer. And they do. Michelle , a fellow creative and technology fan, has recently been trialling a Nokia N900 with the goal of creating some digital art with the Sketch application

Videos: PhoneArena’s 2 Part review of the Nokia N8 – a good phone? Of course it is, we’d even go so far to say it’s a GR8 phone

PhoneArena reviews the N8 wondering if it lives up to all the hype. Design wise, N8 feels extremely solid – good weighting behind it. Flat top and bottom edge – we were dubious at first but it really helps when picking up the handset

New BlackBerry App: Myxer Launches MP3 App For The BlackBerry

Myxer , the somewhat popular MP3 music service has just launched Myxer MP3  for BlackBerry and touts a catalog of over 2 million tracks.  If you are a Myxer user, Mxyer MP3 for BlackBerry is probably an application that you may want to check out.  If you aren’t a Myxer user you should probably check out, Slacker Radio , Pandora , or even iHeartRadio , as they seem to offer a better experience in my opinion…

The Nokia N8 Parties in France, While I Wait for My N9

In case you were sitting around wondering, just what exactly goes on at Nokia France? Here’s the answer. Partying! Community Manager Jean-Baptiste sent over this clip of the Nokia N8 launch party (filmed, of course, with the N8), held at the Tokyo Palace in Paris. It looks eerily similar to the N97′s launch party in New York, minus the mini-burgers

distellamap: Modern Visualizations of Atari 2600 code

Software is a mix of computer instructions and data, but rarely do you get to see how the two interact in memory. Ben Fry visualized the code of several classic video games , giving insight in to the complexity of the code and how the programmer arranged the graphical elements. It’s also amazing how little was required to implement some of these games – Pitfall fits on one page . To see how far we’ve come, the visualization graphic is 1200KB, while game was only 4KB. What Do Jedi’s And Sith Do When They Get Out Of The Shower?

I’m all for Star Wars and other Sci-Fi novelty items, in fact I spend a good portion of my time on ForeverGeek writing about them, but what I really love are novelty items that are useful in everyday life, like the Star Trek Enterprise Pizza Cutter I wrote about last week. Needless to say I was happy to discover new Jedi and Sith bathrobes being offered at the official Star Wars store

Gear Games Deals: Weekend Sales at Direct2Drive, Impulse, Atari ‘Classics’ at GoG, and more!

Another weekend, another group of sales! This week has some great deals, and some questionable ‘classics’ … but at great prices! So let’s get right to it! Good Old Games: Since Good Old Games has been shouting from the rooftops about bringing Atari-owned classics such as Baldur’s Gate and Planescape Torment into the fold, you would assume that an ‘Atari Classics’ sale would be headlined by these games, right? You would be wrong! Here is the list of stuff: Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare Blood 2: The Chosen + Expansion Independence War Deluxe Independence War 2: Edge of Chaos Master of Magic Master of Orion 1+2 Master of Orion 3 ($6.99 separate) One Unit Whole Blood Outcast Total Annihilation: Commander Pack I know, I know … there is some REALLY good stuff there, such as the Masters of Orion games, but even on GoG these are not the best Atari games … also, the deal is that you get 50% off if you buy it all, or 30% off individual games. Still not bad, but would be easily improved by including the recently added RPG games! Steam : 33% Off Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2! Still not a ‘bargain’ at just over $40, but this is the first sale I have seen for this game since it was released a year ago. Impulse Big 50% Off Sale Divinity II: Ego Draconis Sacred 2: Fallen Angel … and more! GamersGate Has yet another big sale – with prices slashed on 36 games from 15% – 60%, and including stuff like the Hearts of Iron II Complete collection for $9.99! Direct2Drive For the weekend D2D are having a ’15% off action games’ with more than 500 games included! And just to reiterate, Spiderweb Software 15th Anniversary Sale From Jeff Vogel’s Blog It was fifteen years ago that fledgling Indie game developer Spiderweb Software released its first game out into the wild.

Choosing a silicone for casting soft buttons

MAKE pal Steve Cooley, who manufactures the Beatseqr hardware performance controller, has posted the lab notes from his recent experiments with various silicone products for casting monolithic soft button arrays. I love it when people do this–the steps and missteps that happen along the way are often as interesting, and as helpful, as the finished product.
