Simultaneous voice and data coming to CDMA; hope yet for Verizon iPhone users
According to the CDMA Development Group, a new solution for CDMA networks, such as those run by Verizon Wireless and Sprint, would allow CDMA cell phones to access wireless data while on an active voice call, something that they are currently incapable of doing. Read the full story here.

Loc8tor Lite – Mobile Phone & Key Finder Review
One my downfalls (so my wife tells me!) is that I constantly put things down, then can’t remember where I’ve put them! Take my car keys as a prime example. I’ll come in from work, put my keys down in my normal place (on the side of the unit in the kitchen), but when I go to find them the next morning, lo and behold, they’re missing! They always seem to turn up in places where I know I wouldn’t put them, so it’s either my mind playing tricks on me, or indeed I do move them and then just forget where! Well, now I have a perfect solution for the problem – the Loc8tor Lite . In a nutshell, with a press of a button the Loc8tor will guide you to your lost keys, mobile phone, cat/dog, radio-control aeroplane, tent… in fact, anything that you can attach one of the remote tags to! How does it work? Well, I’ll explain in more detail! … [ visit site to read more ] Filed in categories: Gear , Geek Toys , Home Tech , Reviews Tagged: Loc8tor Loc8tor Lite – Mobile Phone & Key Finder Review originally appeared on The Gadgeteer on October 9, 2010 at 2:00 pm.

Yashica Electro Shutter mod
We saw this picture on Flickr this morning and started getting really curious. The caption says that [Steffanhh1] modified the Yashica Electro Shutter camera to be fully manual . We’re not camera experts so we had to do a little research to see what was going on here . The Yashika Electro got its name due to how the shutter speed is controlled. You have two little LEDs that light up depending on which direction you need to turn the dial (based on ambient light?).

microscopic pac-man
Earlier this week, I read about a tiny Pac-Man discovered with an electron microscope . But that was just a random scientific anomaly. Turns out there’s a real microscopic Pac-Man out there, and you can actually play it! Developed by Japanes design professor Kotoro “dotimpact” Tanaka, the microscopic Pac-Man [JP] uses a small video projector, combined with the original Pac-Man arcade hardware to allow play of the game through the optics of a microscope. The tiny rig reflects its image through a mirror to produce a 1cm square image at a resolution of 1439-ppi (way denser than Apple’s retina display!) Once magnified through the eyepiece of the microscope, it’s just like playing the full-size game

Is LG’s tablet delay really an Android Gingerbread delay?
Some news coming out of Korea seems to suggest that LG’s Android tablet was never planned to run Android 2.2 Froyo, and that the tablet’s delay could be due, instead, to Google delaying the launch of its tablet-friendly Android Gingerbread OS, which was originally planned for Q4 of 2010. Random House Loves eBooks, But Not iBooks
(image courtesy psdgraphics ) Random House was the only major publisher last year to hold out and refuse to work with Apple on an “agency pricing” system. They basically said setting prices was not their job, but that of the retailer, and if Apple wanted to sell books they could set the prices too

Vertu Constellation Quest Collection
We’ve seen the new Constellation Quest handset in full form, and to be honest, it looks gorgeous. Think of it as the highest form E73 you could imagine — sapphire crystal keys, gold accents — but very angular, almost futuristic looking. Beveled keys, a distinctive ear speaker, and a small size are other things that Vertu’s smartphone features.

T-Mobile responds to G2 Android smartphone rooting issue
T-Mobile G2 owners have reported that their new smartphones cannot be rooted, which would allow for deeper customization of the device. T-Mobile responded to the complaints and said: “The HTC software implementation on the G2 stores some components in read-only memory as a security measure to prevent key operating system software from becoming corrupted and rendering the device inoperable. There is a small subset of highly technical users who may want to modify and re-engineer their devices at the code level, known as “rooting,” but a side effect of HTC’s security measure is that these modifications are temporary and cannot be saved to permanent memory.

Adobe Air Android Arrives … Apps Already Arriving
If you hear ‘Adobe Air’ and think ‘huh?’, you are not alone. Unlike Flash, which is a pretty high-profile content-enabler (and computer disabler if you listen to Steve Jobs), Air is a much smaller and lighter component which has become more popular recently, and is used to fuel things like TweetDeck, the Good Old Games downloader, and the corporate Twitter-alike Yammer. There are a ton more, as evidenced by this article pointing out 60+ Air applications you should know . About a month or so ago Adobe announced that they would bring the Air platform to Android smartphones, and today they have done just that! You can now grab it from the Android Market, though it is a relatively chunky 5.7MB (not clear if you can move it to the SD card).

Pulling data from the IM-ME spectrum analyzer
A small, cheap spectrum analyzer with an LCD can be a fun thing to play with. But to be truly usefully you need access to raw data, and lots of it. [Travis Goodspeed] set out to make that possible by pulling data with a GoodFET and a Python script . He started with [Michael Ossmann's] IM-ME spectrum analyzer , which uses a CC1110 chip. The two of them are giving a lecture at Toorcon 12 (called Real Men Carry Pink Pagers ) and this will be used as a demonstration device.
