Tech from a Small Island: Gymbox Shock Exercise Classes and Smart Brabus Color Coordinated Electric Cars
April has been a strange month for us Brits as election frenzy has taken over, and every TV show you watch has smarmy politicians trying to convince you that they have your best interests at heart. Add to that the late release of the iPad which has Apple fans crying themselves to sleep and the over enthusiastic London Marathon taking place, well, we’re all over the shop really. I could share with you related apps and election chit chat, but I think you’ll prefer an attractive overview of some of the strangest and sexiest gadgets we’ve feasted out eyes on this month

Car guts
My 2-year-old son is obsessed with the movie Cars . Obsessed, I tell you! While surfing the net for pictures of Lightning McQueen, I stumbled across this little oddity. An illustrator named Jake Parker wondered how the insides of one of Pixar’s cars might work, considering that these vehicles are “strange machine/flesh hybrids,” in Parker’s own words.

Off USB Topic – Have You Seen The Gear Ring?
Once again, I am off topic of USB, but sometimes you get ultra cool products that you must mention. Today I found a great gadget from our buddies at Gizmos For Geeks . It’s the Gear Ring. Very elegant in design and intrigues the engineering in all of us. The Gear Ring is comprised of 6 mini gears which rotate in unison as you twist the top portion. The product is high quality stainless steel and engineer to very tight specifications. This makes for an easy and smooth feeling as you twist the ring. Although I’m not a ring guy myself, other than my wedding ring, it is intriguing enough that I’m going to buy one. It’s not THAT much, only $165. Ring sizes include 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9. Is the iPhone 4.0 enterprise worthy?
So I get a lot of questions about iPhone 4.0 and whether it’s now “enterprise ready”. Hard to tell at the moment, although Apple seems to definitely go towards the right direction. After all, iPhone is already used in the enterprise, mainly due to the amazing popularity of it (over 50 million iPhones sold already!) and the fact some IT managers simply don’t care about security as long as they get to play with the best toy in town… Let’s see what new stuff are there which can improve the way iPhone 4 will be accepted by enterprise companies: (…) Read the rest of Is the iPhone 4.0 enterprise worthy?

HP gets back into smartpone biz with a vengeance. Buys Palm for $1.2 billion
It finally happened! Palm has finally threw in a towel in it’s desperate struggle, and gave itself up to HP for a cool $1.2 billion. Last year Palm bet the company on it’s new WebOS smartphone platform. And lost. So, despite management’s assurances to the contrary, it became clear recently that Palm has no chance of surviving as independent company. The only question was who will buy it.

How the AT&T iPad 3G data plans will work
So the 3G iPad is set to launch this Friday at 5:00 PM , and AT&T has finally got on the ball and given full details on how their 3G data plan for the iPad will work. First order of business, you get two data plans that work in the US – the charges are automatically billed on a monthly basis, but you can start and stop that at any time right from the iPad 3G, and both options are contract-free: $14.99 per month for 250 MB $29.99 per month for unlimited data Unlimited access – no added cost – to AT&T’s 20,000+ Wi-Fi Hot Spots That third one is a nice bonus. Apple schedules WWDC 2010 for June 7, iPhone 4G / HD expected
This year, Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference will take place between June 7 and June 11. Since the iPhone 3GS was announced at WWDC 2009, the fourth generation iPhone (4G or HD or whatever it will be called) will likely be announced at WWDC 2010. That’s sooner that expected – the previously-rumored announcement date was June 22 . Apple has already announced iPhone OS 4 , so all it needs to do now is to unveil the new iPhone’s hardware, which is quite possibly similar to the hardware of this iPhone 4 prototype appeared at Gizmodo not long ago: Expectations are high when it comes to the fourth-gen iPhone, especially since lately we’ve seen quite many high-end smartphones that kind of put to shame the iPhone (feature-wise, at least). Will Apple rise to the expectations?

7 Days with the Nokia X3
Introduction Competition in the mobile industry is fierce, and there are a number of manufacturers who are chasing hard the number one position that has been held for so long by Nokia. Not one to rest on their laurels, Nokia are slowly re-aligning their handset line up, including a new naming culture for their devices which should make it easier for consumers to know more about the phone before they purchase. Handsets will be designated by a single letter which will indicate the market focus of the device, whilst the number of the phone will show the level of technical specification. The existing N Series and E Series device names will be retained, and these will be joined by C Series and X Series. Two handsets have been released by Nokia in the X Series range so far, the X6 and X3 and we’ve had an X3 in the office over the last couple of weeks to review.
