Is Apple Shunning Flash Because of Mobile Advertising?

Is Apple shunning Flash on the iPhone and iPad because of concerns over mobile advertising, and not–like Steve Jobs says–because of technology reasons? Simeon Simeonov, founder and CEO of consulting firm FastIgnite, seems to think so. Simeonov wrote an editorial yesterday in VentureBeat claiming that Apple banished Flash from its two mobile devices because the company wants to give itself “breathing room” in the mobile advertising market. In explaining how the move gives Apple breathing room, Simeonov wrote that the Flash banishment “[forces] developers to heavily, perhaps irreversibly, invest in Apple’s platform and in the process avoid alternative tool, services and runtime platforms, an area where Apple has traditionally had no expertise and where Adobe and others have a substantial advantage.” He adds that it’s not just an Apple vs

Nokia Qt SDK Beta released

Only a few day’s ago, Nokia officially released the Nokia Qt SDK which is a Nokia focused version of the original Qt SDK, and allows better development of applications for all Symbian, MeeGo (sorry does not support MeeGo yet but I’m sure this will come soon) and Maemo operating systems which means games, and applications can work great of all platforms. This is better for developers as it means that they are able to port their application across to a much greater number of consumers quicker, the developers in the video below stated that they have: rewritten an application from native Symbian into Qt in 3-4 weeks seen their applications available in the  Ovi store a week after submitting reached customers in 178 countries in just 48 hours of launching their application Now the developers currently making Apple app store, apps have no excuse, if they make their app using Qt, they will reach probably 10 times more consumers and also have a much greater chance of seeing the light of day, without the worry of creating something which is against Apple’s many overly strict rules. So developer’s if you are reading this, start writing!!! To download the development tool, just head over to the Forum Nokia page: http://www.forum.nokia.com/Tools_Docs_and_Code/Tools/IDEs/Nokia_Qt_SDK/ Don’t worry I have not forgot about us consumers, it is a lot better for us too, now if developer’s can make app’s quicker and across more platforms, it means the number of applications in the Ovi store should multiply in no time at all, so more free apps to choose from, more premium apps which you might be willing to pay for, and more competition between developers to make better apps and for a lower price!! Use your mobile phone to hunt for food at McDonalds

Advertising agency DDB Stockholm has created this interactive McDonald’s billboard game where you hunt for treats. The billboard game has the viewer attempting to capture an image of McDonald’s menu items with their camera phones. If the viewer manages to successfully take a picture of it, they only need to present the photo to the nearest McDonald’s (where the billboard will direct them to) to claim their prize.

A more powerful boost charger

[Meseta] built a powerful boost charger to top off his portable devices. He was inspired by the Minty Boost but wanted to overcome the rather limited capacity provided by the two-celled product. He ended up building his own DC to DC boost circuit rather than using an all-in-one IC. As you can see, the result uses four 18650 lithium-ion cells, normally found in laptop batteries, and can power two USB devices at the same time.

Adobe to distribute Android handsets to its employees?

It is a good time to be an Adobe employee; not only are you drunk with euphoria over the successful launch of Creative Suite 5, but you may also find yourself rocking a hot, new Android handset courtesy of your employer. In a public show of support for Android and a large scale example of dog-fooding, Adobe may be handing out Android handsets to it employees. The distribution is expected to coincide with the highly anticipated launch of Flash for Android at the upcoming Google I/O conference. No details on which handset will get the Adobe blessing or whether these handsets are destined for all employees or just the development team. Hopefully, this rumor pans out as the folks at Adobe need a little pick-me-up right now

Case Review: SwitchEasy Nude – Clear for iPhone

I found the idea behind the SwitchEasy NUDE quite fascinating: an ultra-thin (0.8 mm) transparent shell that mimics the form and feel of a “naked” iPhone while protecting the device from scuffs and scratches. Unfortunately, fitting issues keep this case from ever convincing you that your iPhone is just in its birthday suit. Palm’s concepts – what never got out

We’ve seen our fair share of Palm prototypes here on TamsPalm – if you haven’t been around for so long, just look for Roteo or Tungsten X420. All of these had one thing in common: they existed in hardware form. Technologizer now uncovered a few devices which never made it into silicon – two images are below: Visit the gallery via the URL below: http://technologizer.com/2010/04/29/palm-patents/ Big thanks to philpalm for the news tip!

So… what’s Call of Duty: Black Ops?

Activision released a new trailer over the weekend, along with the initial announcement of, its latest game in the Call of Duty franchise. While the creators of Call of Duty , Infinity Ward, have been going through some serious inner turmoil lately, Activision’s secondary go-to studio for CoD games, Treyarch, has been working on this new entry. Treyarch is remembered as the studio behind the sequels Call of Duty 2, Call of Duty 3 , and the more recent Call of Duty: World at War . Effectively Call of Duty 7 , the game’s actual title is Call of Duty: Black Ops , and Activision is remaining tight-lipped for the moment when it comes to details.
