Using your BlackBerry to help with travel plans
Summer lies just around the corner, and I couldn’t be happier. While it does bring more tourists to the city, it also means lighter commutes, fewer people at the office, and of course sunshine and warmth. This all relates to summer travel plans.

ASUS Eee PC 1218 said to be Ion-based, more laptops coming May 13th
We’d already gotten a good look at ASUS’ forthcoming Eee PC 1218 courtesy of the Red Dot design awards, and DigiTimes is now reporting one of its key details: that it will indeed be Ion-based (we’d presume Ion 2, but that still remains unclear). What’s more, the site has also offered some more confirmation of ASUS’ Eee PC 1015 / 1215, and says that ASUS will also be launching some new laptops on May 13th, including some bamboo-covered models and some “multimedia-enhanced models.” In other ASUS news, the site also has a few choice quotes from the always talkative ASUS CEO Jerry Shen , who repeated his assertion that netbooks will continue to outsell tablets, and further went on to get specific and say that ASUS expects to sell between seven and eight million Eee PCs in 2010, which would bring its global netbook market share to 20%. [Thanks, Sal] ASUS Eee PC 1218 said to be Ion-based, more laptops coming May 13th originally appeared on Engadget on Tue, 04 May 2010 14:09:00 EST

Make a Movie Out of Your Tweets With UTweet
If reading a stream of tweets seems a little flat to you, try UTweet , a fun service from clothing retailer Uniqlo . To create a movie based on your tweets, just enter your Twitter user name into the site, and it’ll generate a movie of your tweets and @replies. Or, just enter a subject, name, or place you’re interested in, and it’ll generate a movie based on that keyword. I’m not sure there’s a point to the site beyond sheer entertainment value, but it’s fun to see your animated tweets with an artsy version of your user photo pop onto the screen. It also throws in a few Uniqlo-clad models for good measure, breaking up the stream of tweets by singing the U-T theme song.

Wholesale Applications Community Gains Steam In Creating An “Open Mobile App Standard”
This year’s Mobile World Congress saw the formal debut of the “Wholesale Applications Community,” which at the time consisted of 24 mobile operators and device makers with the intention of creating a simple route to market for application developers, in addition to diminishing the fragmentation that exists when multiple sources begin developing their own mobile app strategies. Nearly three months later, the group collectively known as the “WAC” has already made significant headway in its cause

Motorola Shadow: Sequel to which? Nexus or Droid?
We’ve been yearning to learn more and more about the Motorola Shadow , and even with the upcoming Motorola ( NYSE: MOT ) Android smartphone’s leak from the WiFi Alliance , we just can’t get enough! Hearing anything about this device is music to my ears. That is, until a rumor surfaces saying that the Shadow isn’t the new Nexus Two , but the Droid Two instead – as possibly a Verizon ( NYSE: VZ )-only handset. While this isn’t necessarily bad news, I just don’t want to switch to Verizon for this thing

Google Will Launch Ebooks Service in Early Summer
A representative for Google said today that the company plans to sell digital books beginning in late June or July .This announcement comes after over a year of discussion at Google over its vision to distribute electronic books. The new service, called Google Editions, will give customers access to digital copies of books through a book-search service, allowing access to a broad range of sites from multiple devices. Plus, it’ll allow book sellers to sell Google Editions on their own sites, with sellers taking most of the revenue. Pricing information and details of which publishers will participate in Google Editions have not been released, but if Google Editions takes off, it’ll surely be a threat to the ebook stores offered by Apple , Amazon , and Barnes & Noble .
