Motorola Hints At Its Own Mobile OS, Acquires Azingo

After rumours of HTC contemplating their own OS , it seems Motorola may also be heading back into the OS game, with Co-CEO Sanjay Jha hinting at the importance of having their own OS. Android And Me are running a story that links the Co-CEO’s comments with a recent acquisition by the company. It appears that Motorola recently acquired Azingo, a mobile platform company that already has their own linux-based OS, Azingo Mobile 2.0 . The OS already includes a Webkit-based browser, a web runtime, Flash runtime, and full developer tools. Whether this points to Motorola’s desire to develop an entirely new OS, or just them merging Azingo’s technologies/engineers into Moto’s own Android skin, Motoblur, remains to be seen, but it’s fun to dream, isn’t it

How To Wipe Your BlackBerry And Restore It Back To Factory Defaults

I don’t know why questions often seem to come in bunches, however, over the last week or two, I’ve been asked how to wipe a BlackBerry and restore it back to factory defaults at least half a dozen times.  The process is pretty straight forward, but not something that many BlackBerry users do, so we’ve put together a little tutorial to walk you through it. How To Security Wipe Your BlackBerry Go to your devices Options screen Select Security Options Select Security Wipe Check each of the options that you would like to be wiped from your device Enter “blackberry” to confirm device wipe Click the “Wipe” button Be Careful!!! This process does exactly what it says it does.  Absolutely make sure that you want to do this before you actually do it.  Even if you are sure I recommend getting a good backup of your device before running through this process

BlackBerry 9800 slider shows up again (with BlackBerry OS 6)

RIM’s first slider smartphone – apparently called BlackBerry 9800 – has been spotted in some new hands-on photos, which seem to show that the device runs BlackBerry OS 6 . Furthermore, BBleaks says that the BlackBerry 9800 will be Research in Motion’s first device to use OS 6, which can run on both touch and non-touch phones (like the BlackBerry 9670 clamshell ). The new photos of the 9800 are quite blurry and weird, as you can see below: There’s still no word on the exact features of BlackBerry 9800, but 3G and Wi-Fi should be included. The smartphone will probably be launched by RIM this summer. Samsung (Bada-Powered) Wave to Launch in North and South America?

Samsung may be a little crazy to create their own OS when Android is free, powerful, and popular, but that doesn’t mean that I’m not at least a little curious about what the new OS may bring. On that note, you may be interested to hear that the first of Samsung’s Bada-powered phones — the Samsung Wave 8500 — may be making its way over from Europe to come visit your hometown*.

Earmuff Headphones Keep You Warm & Stylish in the Winter

Winter might be the furthest thing from your mind, but when the cold weather does eventually come back – you’ll want to be prepared. These Earmuff Headphones look like a pair of furry and very cozy earmuffs, and that is exactly what they are. However, they also double as a pair of over the ear headphones. Granted, they’re not made of the real kind of fur that might classify them as luxury headphones, but in our books, that is a good thing. The Earmuff headphones are available in black or gray and retail for $38.99.

RIM BlackBerry Slider Appears Again Showing Off BlackBerry 6 OS

We’ve had a bit of a very interesting relationship with the BlackBerry Slider ’round these parts, and we’re honestly glad to see it show up again, especially because it’s boasting a new trick. So, whether you want to call it the Slider, or maybe the BlackBerry T –for Talladega–, here’s your next glimpse of the still unannounced device, running the latest version of Research In Motion’s mobile Operating System, BlackBerry 6. The photos were sent over to BBLeaks , who seem to be the loving home for the BlackBerry Slider early leaks so far, and they show the BlackBerry Slider powered on, and featuring BlackBerry 6, the OS that RIM just showed off

First Data and Tyfone Plan To Take Mobile Payment Mainstream

[image courtesy of Ronnie05 ] The true promise of mobile payments has yet to really take off here in the U.S.   The ability to not only check your balance and manager your accounts, but actually use your mobile to directly pay for goods and services is something many of us are still waiting to see become a reality.  First Data and Tyfone may have the solution that breaks that barrier and brings mobile payments mainstream. Where other solutions rely on a separate NFC or Near Field Communications chip being built in or included in the actual handset, First Data and Tyfone have come together to innovate mobile payments using something almost every phone likely uses today — a micro SD card.   Think about it, we store music on an SD card.  We save our pictures on such a card.   Why not build in the technology to use your mobile as a true wallet using that very same SD card? … [ visit site to read more ] Copyright

Fraunhofer’s 3D posters make your fish-based advertising really pop

The pinnacle of 3D-based content? Glasses-free, of course, and Fraunhofer has reached that level for static images — and it plans to use it for advertising, of course. The company is talking up its new 3D posters that rely on 250,000 lenses embedded in a grooved sheet, each lens with a 2mm diameter. The effect is said to be similar to those simple “3D” lenticular postcards and cereal boxes we’ve all seen, but Fraunhofer promises that improved accuracy used in manufacturing here will make the resulting images far clearer, enabling the effect to be clearly seen on these five meter posters even from across the street.

Bell MiFi units remotely deactivated as recall takes place

We were a bit taken back the other day when trying to locate the Novatel MiFi 2372 on Bell’s website to no avail, and now we know why — it’s been recalled. According to Bell, the MiFi’s battery is prone to swelling and, not surprisingly, this poses not only a safety risk but may also “[cause] the device to malfunction.” Bell is planning to get MiFi’s back in the hands of its customers just as soon as they can get them replaced by Novatel, but in the meantime every affected customer will be sent a U998 Turbo Stick to tide them over. Just in case you’re the type to throw caution to the wind and want to keep using your MiFi until the replacements are shipped out (which just so happens to be 6 to 8 weeks away), Bell has taken the precaution of remotely deactivating your kit

Samsung Wave Could Hit North and South America Soon

You’ll have to consider the word soon to be pretty relative in this case, because we still don’t have any idea when the Samsung Wave is going to be released in the United States, let alone anywhere else (not including the UK ). At least, not by any official means, anyway. But, if some recent Bluetooth SIG paperwork is any indicator, then it looks like Samsung’s first (and only, at the moment) Bada mobile Operating System-based handset could be coming to the shores of North and South America soon. Ah, there’s that word again… Thanks to the Bluetooth Group and their SIG certification, we’ve caught wind of the Samsung Wave GT-S8500R and the GT-S8500M, with both of these devices heading to North America, supposedly. Now, that could mean that, considering the Samsung Wave is a GSM-based device, that both AT&T and T-Mobile USA could be getting their own variations

Nokia Own Voice for Ovi Maps lets you tell yourself where to go

Hot on the heels of TomTom’s new Star Wars voices for their PND range comes Nokia’s alternative: the ability to record your own voice prompts for the Ovi Maps Navigation app available free for multiple Nokia handsets.  Fresh to the Ovi Store – as a free download, no less – Own Voice for Ovi Maps asks you to record 53 different speech prompts and then bundles them together into a custom voice pack. Not only can you use that voice pack yourself, but they’re shared on Nokia’s new Own Voice site so that others can download them too (we’re guessing you can keep them private as well).  It’s a brilliant idea, and it might just put custom voice prompt vendors out of business.

Trippy RGB Wallpaper Reacts To Colored Lights

For the most part, I can’t stand wallpaper—but I have to admit that this RGB wallpaper design from Italian studio Carnovsky would be bad ass in a club. Each features overlapping illustrations that are revealed when either red, green or blue light is applied. Check out the gallery after the break to see how the wallpaper above looks in different light. ( Creative Review via The Awesomer )
