Apple Applies Death-Grip to Nokia N97
In an effort to regain some faith with the iPhone 4 antenna issue Apple is now targeting competitor devices to show the effect of dreaded death-grip and has started with the Nokia N97. Check out the video after the jump to see the Nokia N97 mini signal choke and drop from 7 bars, to a pitiful 2 when held in the death-grip. Apple is using the example to demonstrate that every smart phone has a cellular antenna and nearly all smart phone can lose signal strength if you hold them in a certain way. Apple go on to say that signal loss typically occurs when your hand attenuates the most sensitive part of the antenna. You can view Apple’s full report on the Apple website here

Worlds First Control System Malware Worm Discovered
A new malware that has been spreading via USB devices has been discovered by security experts. The worm is programmed to steal data from systems running specific software used in utilities and industrial manufacturing plants. The worm dubbed Stuxnet has the security world in a frenzy and propagates itself by exploiting a hole in all versions of Windows in the code that processes shortcut files, ending in “.lnk,”. The malware includes a rootkit, designed to hide the fact that a computer has been compromised, together with other software that sneaks onto injected computers using digital certificates signed two Taiwanese chip manufacturers. Both manufacturers are based in the same industrial complex in Taiwan: RealTek and JMicron, according to Chester Wisniewski, senior security advisor at Sopho.

MSI launches Wind12 U230 ‘Light,’ shaves two inches and 30 clamshells from predecessor’s hide
Are MSI’s 12.1-inch netbooks a hair too large for you? Wonder of wonders, there’s a smaller version that’s practically exactly the same inside. Though the new MSI Wind12 U230 Light confusingly weighs just the same as its predecessor (3.3 pounds) and is still 1.22 inches thick, it’s got a smaller 11.6-inch matte LCD screen that makes it two inches shorter in either direction on a horizontal plane. You’re still getting the same 1,366 x 768 display, 1.6GHz Athlon Neo MV-40 processor, 2GB of RAM, Radeon HD 3200 graphics, 250GB hard drive and sub-par four hours of battery life, but MSI did think to trim the fat in one last direction, and knocked $30 off the price

Despite AntennaGate, Business Booms for Apple
It’s hard to keep away from Apple these days, as the iPhone continues to hog headlines for all sorts of reasons. But looking at facts and figures, it would seem that whilst the iPhone 4 antenna has been the focus of many over the last few weeks, it hasn’t had much of an impact on the overall success of device, in terms of sales. Overall sales of the iPhone, in all its variations, came to 8.4 million, an amazing 61% increase in year on year numbers. The iPhone 4 accounted for over 3 million of these, and most manufacturers can only dream of producing a handset that sells in such high numbers in such a short space of time. Without doubt the negative views in recent days will have had an impact on recent sales figures, and we can only wonder at how many more sales there would have been had the whole AntennaGate issue not erupted

BlueLounge SpaceStation Organizes Your Desk and Cools Your Laptop
The BlueLounge SpaceStation looks simple – that’s it in the front of the picture – but it performs many jobs. The SpaceStation is wedge-shaped, so resting the back of a laptop on it results in a more comfortable keyboard angle, and it allows air to flow underneath to keep the laptop cool. The top of the SpaceStation is a rubber mat, so you can rest your phone, external disk, or other peripherals on it without fear of scratching. The back of the unit has a business card holder and page holder for letter-sized papers. The true magic is underneath the SpaceStation, where you’ll find a 4-port USB 2.0 hub and “coiling pins” to corral excess cables from all your peripherals – you’ll only have one cable to plug into your laptop. You’ll get an AC adapter so you’ll be able to power multiple devices from the hub. The SpaceStation is $79.95 from … [ visit site to read more ] Filed in categories: Laptop Gear , News Tagged: Laptop Accessory , USB hub BlueLounge SpaceStation Organizes Your Desk and Cools Your Laptop originally appeared on The Gadgeteer on July 21, 2010 at 7:05 am.
