biometric sensors detect stress: electronic shrink
I don’t know about you, but I usually know when I’m stressed. I don’t need any gadget to tell me that. Looking at a mirror also does the trick. But that doesn’t mean that stress-detecting technology is useless. While I’m pretty sure you can also tell when you’re stressed, sometimes other people don’t

wake up with sony dash
Sony touts its new Dash multimedia device with this funny commercial which sells us on the advantages of using the Dash as a high-tech alarm clock. Sony is airing the spot in the Washington D.C. and San Fransisco areas to get some buzz building for the recently released personal internet device. Click to View Embedded Video Clip While I really like the idea of using something like this as an alarm clock, I’ve always been worried that the brightness of an LCD screen would keep me from sleeping

The big reveal at Apple’s WWDC keynote this morning was, of course, the next-generation iPhone. The device will be called iPhone 4, and goes on sale this month in US, UK, France, Germany and Japan. The 16GB model will cost $199 with a contract in the US, while the 32GB model will cost $299. It goes on sale on 24th June and will be available in 88 countries by the end of September. Its launch in those five initial markets will be preceded by the release of the iPhone OS 4 software, which has been rebranded to iOS 4 to reflect the fact that it’s also available for iPad and iPod touch devices

"Cuban Polaroid" is ultra-low-tech camera, darkroom all in one
My old pal Billy Baque takes us on a tour of one of his many classic film camera obsessions, the “Cuban Polaroid:” It was a wooden box with the bellows and lens from a folding camera mounted at one end with a complete darkroom inside. Using photographic printing paper the photographer would expose a sheet of paper for the negative, develop, stop, and fix it inside the camera, then put a copy stand on the camera and photograph the negative (to obtain a positive), develop, stop, and fix, then wash the final print in a coffee can of water attached to his homemade tripod. The technology apparently developed as a means for working photographers to produce souvenir prints on site, on demand, and at very low cost

Review: Virgin Mobile Broadband2Go Wireless USB Modem
One thing modern technology and being a gadget freak brings is lots of monthly bills. iPhone, Netflix, Satellite, home internet. When you think about it, it seems we are being nickel and dimed to death with monthly charges. Being a father of two and earning a meager wage, the addition of more of these monthly charges is not an option. There are many new mobile internet devices that look compelling, but I never can work the monthly fees into my budget. Enter Virgin Mobile’s Broadband2Go. Virgin Mobile was kind enough to send me a Broadband2Go Wireless USB Modem to try out. The big difference in the Broadband2Go offering is the lack of monthly or annual charges. The service is pay as you go and offers several options starting at $10. This is exactly what I needed. There are times I would like to be wireless for a trip or during certain sports, but I am not willing to pay for the services the entire year. With the Broadband2Go Modem, I am able to pay for what I think I will use without a contract or any attachments

Apple Announce the iPhone 4
We’ve known it was coming for a long time, and finally today the wait is over; Apple have confirmed the Apple iPhone 4 . We will look at the device in more detail in a subsequent post, but for now let’s take a brief look at the latest incarnation of one of the most popular mobile devices ever manufactured. The new iPhone 4 is the thinnest iPhone to date, measuring in at just 9.3mm thick. The chassis of the phone is made from stainless steel, giving the iPhone a solid feel, and the aerial of the device is also incorporated into this chassis.

iPhone 4’s Retina Display is 4x sharper than iPhone 3GS
via Engadget Live Blog This quick shot from the Engadget live blog shows a little about what is so mind blowing (or mind-blasting, as my best buddy would say) about the new iPhone 4 display — but it certainly doesn’t capture it all. Apps on iPhone 4 will automatically resize to the new resolution, so they won’t look like crap as they do on an iPad. That doesn’t mean they won’t benefit from upgraded hi-res art for the newest generation of Apple’s smartphone, though — so we can look forward to newer, smexier versions of the apps we already love (Tapbots in HD!)

New Apple iPhone gets official as iPhone 4. 960 x 640 pixels Retina Display, HD video and more
As expected, today Apple has announced the fourth generation iPhone , which is not called iPhone 4G, and neither iPhone HD, but simply iPhone 4 . Steve Jobs says that iPhone 4 represents “the biggest leap since the original iPhone.” The new handset looks a lot like that leaked prototype we’ve seen many times until now. It’s 9.4mm thick (“24% thinner than the iPhone 3G”), and it comes with a 3.5 inch so-called “Retina Display”, which features “326 pixels per inch” – that’s 960 x 640 pixels . “There has never been a display like this on a phone” says Steve Jobs, adding that the IPS technology used by the new display is “quite a bit better than OLED.” No mention of Samsung’s Super AMOLED display, though. Here are some of the new features the iPhone 4 has: iPhone OS 4 – which has been renamed to “iOS 4″ for some reason 3-axis gyroscope (great for gaming) 5MP camera with LED flash, tap to focus and “backside illuminated sensor” which should make photos taken in low-light conditions look better HD video recording (720p at 30fps) Front-facing camera for video calling (video calling will be made via an app called FaceTime; sadly, it will work only via Wi-Fi this year, but Apple is working with carriers to make it available via 3G, too) Better battery – up to 300 hours of stand-by time iMovie (available for $4.99 in App Store) Netflix (available for free later in the summer) iBooks (like on the iPad) iAds – “to help developers make money” The Apple iPhone 4 will be available in both black and white

Sonodrome: Inspiring entrepreneurship in hobby electronics
Posc , the signature handheld synthesizer from Sonodrome . Lots of people who read, contribute to, and/or generate the content we feature on Make: Online find themselves in this situation at one point or another: They make something for entertainment, or to educate themselves or their children, post it on the web, and suddenly find they’re getting a lot of attention for the work. Many–and I hope, in fact, most–of these people like their day jobs just fine and are content to let their hobby stay a hobby. But some significant fraction look at all the are-you-selling-these e-mails piling up in their in-boxes, or all the where-can-I-buy-one comments piling up on their threads, and start to wonder: Am I missing an opportunity here? How The Apple iPad Is Changing The Way We Consume Media
The Apple iPad is either a revolutionary device that is set to totally change the way we look at computing or it’s just another device pushed by Apple that we don’t really want or need. It depends who you talk to. A product has not split its market in two like this for a long time. The iPad is a tablet computer made by Apple and can basically be thought of as a cross between a laptop and an iPhone .

Thai wants something better than the 3G
“3.9G technology is a more advanced technology than 3G that is based on the 2.1GHz frequencies but allows much faster data transmission which would provide greater benefit to consumers.” Thailand NTC commissioner, Pana Thongmeearkom, has issued this statement. Perhaps this is also the same reason why the Thai government decided to hold back the issuance of

High quality Blackberry Bold 9800 slider pics, BB OS 6 video walkthrough pop up in China
Research in Motion was never too big on trying new form factors for their Blackberry devices. Sure, RIM might be playing with some pretty far out things on drawing boards in R&D labs, but when it comes to actual Blackberry devices, they are extremely conservative. Wide or traditional candybar form factor is the way to go. But even RIM has to try something new sometimes
