Section: Communications , Cellphones , Smartphones , Mobile Google announced a few days back that they were currently working with the final shipment of the Nexus One . In other words, if you want a new Nexus One then you need to make a purchase sooner as opposed to later. That said, at that time all we knew was that Google had received its last shipment, but more recently; “A Google spokeswoman told The Times on Tuesday that the Mountain View, Calif., company expects to sell out of its remaining supply by the end of the month but wouldn’t say how many units it received.” Read [ LA Times ] Full Story
Looks like OnLive could have some competition in the form of Gaikai , another cloud-computing service that promises performance gaming without a console. Unlike OnLive, which uses a standalone box, Gaikai streams games directly into your browser; we’ve already seen it streaming WoW to Apple’s iPad

With 3D finally starting to break through in mainstream devices, Sony is looking to protect one of their developments that sends two images from one video screen to two different people. Patents recently published show that Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. the PlayStation division of Sony, is looking to systems that will allow to players to share separate images from one screen, rather than playing in a split screen mode. An example maybe if two people were playing a FPS on one screen, the norm would be to use a split screen, Sony’s Multiplayer Stereoscopic System would allow each player to see only their own characters views on the screen

A brewing free-speech debate touched off by a lost prototype of Apple’s iPhone has ended quietly with a blogger’s agreement to cooperate with investigators. Thomas J Nolan Jr, a lawyer for Jason Chen of Gizmodo.com, said Monday that technology website agreed to the deal with prosecutors to resolve the case as quickly as possible. A judge on Friday ordered a search warrant withdrawn and seized items returned to Chen. The website posted images in April of a prototype iPhone left in a Redwood City bar by an Apple employee. Gizmodo said it paid money for the phone

Raytheon provided a public showing of their Laser Close-In Weapon System (CIWS) at the recent Farnborough Airshow, demonstrating just how the blaster can be used to shoot robotic death-planes out of the sky by turning an unmanned drone into an unmanned drone crashing into the ocean. *sniff* Smell that? Smells like the dog farted under the bed and now the mattress is on fire victory .

A slide detailing some specs of the upcoming BlackBerry Storm 3 has leaked. The Storm 3 is set to be a rather minor refresh of the Storm 2 , so don’t expect anything too groundbreaking. The most important changes won’t be in hardware, but in software, as it will be running BlackBerry OS 6 . The Storm 3 will double the Storm 2′s amount of RAM to 512 MB, the camera will be 5 Megapixels compared to 3.15. Also, the new Storm will come with WiFi 802.11 n support.

Some people’s devices never have to brave anything worse than a little bit of travel time as they are transported from the house to the car to the building their owner works in; other devices get put in precarious situations every day — whether it be from danger from dropping, crushing, or simply dust and grit damaging the finish.

(image courtesy Vator.tv ) Amazon is normally very tight-lipped about Kindle sales. Today, though, they pulled back the curtain a bit, and the peek inside should be enough to send traditional publishing and bookstores screaming for their xanax. Apparently, in the last three months, Amazon has sold 180 Kindle eBooks for every 100 hardcover books

Students at the Rochester Institute of technology have put together this WiFi hotspot that is powered by a wind turbine and a solar panel . It gets its signal through a parabolic antenna pointed at a near by building and repeats it for use in the vicinity. They are using a 30W solar panel, along with a 1/4 horse power 90V DC motor to charge two 6V batteries in series. On a windy day, the turbine has yielded 120W. Something interesting to note is a comment they made about blades

If you have been looking forward to playing your stereoscopic PS3 games in full 1080p HD, you might be a little disappointed as Sony have now issued guide lines restricting their PS3 games to only 720p. The guidelines have been put in place to help reduce eye strain caused by 3D gaming and all native 1080p content will be run at a lower 720p, to create a smooth 60fps frame rate. The effects of the down scaling are probably unnoticeable to most gamers, Sony’s Simon Benson explained during a demo of the technology at the Develop conference this week. He went on to explain that games running natively at 1080p resolution, like Super Stardust HD , are downscaled in 3D mode to two 720p images (one for each eye).
