Moshi Bluetooth Car Speakerphone Available Now for $79.99

Moshi, the company that’s infatuated with people’s voices, loves to make things that get controlled by just the sound of your voice. While we love their clocks (even if it means we miss a couple of meetings here and there), we’ve got to say that going the Bluetooth speakerphone route is probably the most logical, and we’re glad to see a new gadget coming our way. This car speakerphone features one of Moshi’s most notable features

Ford, GM ‘turn’ to Google Maps

(Image courtesy Google) Detroit automakers Ford and GM both announced this week the coming availability of turn-by-turn directions in their vehicles courtesy of Google Maps. Ford will offer this convenience via SYNC technology (using the customers mobile phone) and GMs will arrive a la OnStar. Unfortunately this means the technology is only good so long as a cell signal remains. For those who find themselves EXTREMELY lost, I suggest making sure you bring along a boy scout or homing pigeon before leaving the connected realm. For me, I will continue to trust the latest satellite-based GPS navigation technology offered in most of the new vehicles and handheld devices on the market today

AT&T U-verse will have ESPN 3D at launch, for a fee

We’re just two days away from the launch of the first 3D channel in the US, and U-verse will be ready. The third broadcaster to announce it will carry ESPN 3D after DirecTV and Comcast , it is the first to charge an additional fee for the privilege. $10 per month adds the “3D Technology Package” to your U-verse viewing options — similar to Comcast and different from DirecTV’s approach , it works with all the boxes but will require users to manually switch to 3D mode on their TVs — which at the moment will consist only of ESPN 3D, although the company promises its goal is to offer a “wide range” of 3D content just like its current HD lineup (which it also charges an extra $10 to access.) Have U-verse but haven’t shelled out for a 3DTV, glasses, and this new channel

AdMob Founder Omar Hamoui Responds To Apple’s Updated iPhone Developer Terms

It was only a matter of time before AdMob and others in the mobile advertising game responded to Apple’s updated developer terms which effectively prohibit app developers from using third-parties such as AdMob and Google’s advertising solutions on the iPhone. The new terms have left many in the industry scratching their head as to why Apple would make such a blatant anti-competitive move, and the responses are starting to come forward.

Panasonic Toughbook F9: lightest 14-inch notebook & rugged too

Panasonic have outed their latest rugged notebook , the Toughbook F9, a 14-inch machine that weighs a mere 3.6 pounds; that makes it the industry’s lightest 14-inch notebook, despite the extra-sturdy build.  Based around a 2.4GHz Intel Core i5-520M processor with a 320GB hard-drive and optional Qualcomm Gobi WWAN, the F9 boasts up to seven hours runtime. That’s impressive, considering the Toughbook F9 can withstand a drop of 30-inches – about the height of your desk – while turned on and without losing data.  There’s also a spill-resistant keyboard, and the casing is made of sturdy magnesium alloy

Reuters: Hulu plans to expand to iPad, Xbox 360, offer subscription service

We’ve already heard rumors of Hulu coming to the iPad and Xbox 360 , and rumors of a subscription service , and it looks like those might now all be coming together. According to Reuters , two sources and “another with knowledge of the matter” say that Hulu will be rolling out to “multiple devices” in the next month or two — only the iPad and Xbox 360 are mentioned by name — and that it will indeed be offering a subscription service. As we had heard, the subscription service would apparently only be for older episodes of TV shows and other content — you’d still be able to watch new episodes of shows for free — and it sounds like it will apply to Hulu as a whole, not just those aforementioned devices. Not many more details than that, unfortunately, but this does certainly seem to be taking on a feeling of inevitability. Reuters: Hulu plans to expand to iPad, Xbox 360, offer subscription service originally appeared on Engadget on Wed, 09 Jun 2010 12:22:00 EDT

Apple defends against Google with its new iPhone 4

When Apple was presenting the first iPhone in January 2007, the head of Google, Eric Schmidt, was in the audience at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, as a member of the supervisory board of Apple. Just three years later, the former ally of Apple is now its main competitor, even ahead of Microsoft or Nokia, thanks to a whole army of smartphones that want to conquer the market with Google’s operating system, Android. To halt that progress, Apple on Monday introduced the new iPhone 4, which goes on sale June 24 in the U.S., France, Germany, Japan and the UK for $ 199 (167 euros) with a two-year contract. The new phone is faster than its predecessors, the battery lasts longer, is thinner and shines with a new screen where texts are read as if they were printed

lego mindstorms walking robot legs: what’s next, a lego terminator?

I’m always amazed at what some people can do with LEGO building blocks. This is definitely impressive. It’s a LEGO Mindstorms robot that can walk like a human. The robot is called Pinocchio and the aim of the project is to kinematically imitate a human walking. Click to View Embedded Video Clip I know for a fact that walking like a human is really hard to emulate for robots, which is why this LEGO ‘bot is doubly impressive

Would you buy a voice-controlled camera, or perhaps a DSLR with touchsceen?

Do you talk to your digital camera? Perhaps stroke its glossy LCD? If a pair of recent patent applications are any indication, those mildly creepy gestures might one day actually do something.

Nike Announces Heart Rate Monitor For The Nike+

Are you a fan of the Nike+ system, but want to track your exertion through a heart rate monitor? Now your trusty Nike+ sportsband or iPod can pair with a special Polar Heart Rate strap and track your ticker as well as your runs! That’s the good news. The bad news is that the monitor costs $69.95. It still isn’t a terrible deal if you already have an iPod Nano or iPod Touch. Presumably you’re choosing to run with music, and therefore your only “extra” cost would be either the Nike+ dongle and the heart rate monitor or just the monitor

What Was Missing From WWDC? Nothing

I thought there would be far more rumors leading up to Apple’s World Wide Developer’s Conference . After all, the big story had already been blown, which left a lot of room open for speculation. Besides, a number of significant Apple products are due for an update, right? Macrumors runs an Apple buyer’s guide where they track the lifecycle of Apple’s key products. A few of Apple’s products haven’t been updated in a long time, longer than their usual average

Windows Phone 7 Chooses First “Rockstar”

Preparations for Windows Phone 7 are starting to ramp up now, as Microsoft seems to clearly be trying to deal with the “No Apps” issue in advance by educating and promoting a development community for the new release. Microsoft has decided that the best way to do this is to work from the ground up, focusing on students rather then relying on wrestling devs away from Apple or Android

CPT transflective display takes on Pixel Qi [Video]

If you’ve kept even half an eye on the low-power computing industry over the past couple of years, you can’t have missed Pixel Qi ’s 3qi display technology and the excitement surrounding what an ultra-low-power screen could do for mobile devices.  Now it seems Pixel Qi could have another competitor on their hands, this time from CPT , whose 1366 x 768 transflective panel apparently draws 50-percent less power than a regular LCD, despite coming in at 200 nits brightness and with a contrast ratio of 400:1
