Contributing your ideas to the Open Source community
With both of Nokia’s chosen OS’s for their mid and high range handsets being open sourced, it means that a lot of the work and development on these aspects of the OS is done very much in the open and can be accessed with as little effort as it’d take to register for a forum for example. While this access to *some* elements of the OS can be had well in advance of release, the main reason for Nokia’s drive for open source in my humble opinion is to get input and ideas from a wide variety of people with different perceptions, needs, wants, interests and backgrounds. Much more input than would have been possible within the confines of an office in Finland or the UK for example. Having posted numerous videos and blog posts on Symbian and MeeGo, the coming changes with regards to their UI’s and capabilities etc and received valid and valued feedback, I thought it important to get this message across to our few (but vocal) readers

Google redesigns image search page, ditches the text
Today, Google announced enhancements to their Google Images search page that aim to be: more image-oriented, accurate, and efficient. The new look brings with it the following enhancements: Dense tiled layout designed to make it easy to look at lots of images at once. We want to get the app out of the way so you can find what you’re really looking for. Instant scrolling between pages, without letting you get lost in the images. You can now get up to 1,000 images, all in one scrolling page

Using the Ovi App Wizard
Nokia released a while back a cool online application called Ovi App wizard which lets you use the RSS feeds of your website to create tiny little apps and publish them to the Ovi store, obviously the idea was poo pooed by the media a while back and no one talked about it since, well Ewan from Mobile Industry Review made a screencast of the process of creating the application and well I was amazed by the simplicity of being able to create an app so easily even if it is only an RSS feed. Again credit goes to Nokia for trying to make it easier for developers to make applications. Nice Nokia N8 BTW in the ad above You can see the screencast here via Mobile Industry Review

GetGlue is Social Networking for Media Addicts
When I first came across GetGlue I thought, “Just what I need, another social network.” The last thing I wanted to do was open another social networking app from my iPhone and check in, “like” things and earn rewards. However, GetGlue can easily win one over with its addictive way to rate and review entertainment and lifestyle content.

Nokia supposedly looking for new CEO
You might have noticed that the Wall street Journal is reporting that Nokia are actively searching for a new CE O to rejuvenate their past successes. A lot has been made after the reporting and apparently Nokia already have interviewed two candidates nothing has been confirmed yet but looking at the blogs and new sites today it seems like it is a reality. Do Nokia really need a new CEO ???

iPad Game Review: Mystery of the Crystal Portal
I had bought Mystery of the Crystal Portal for my iPad when I was heading out on vacation. While I was quite occupied with Puzzle Quest 2 on the DS, I love the occasional ‘hidden object’ game, and have been VERY happy with stuff from G5 games (like Mahjongg Artifacts ) … so I figured I’d give it a try. When I came back I got a message from G5 noting that the game was being released as a PSP Mini and offering me a review copy, which I quickly accepted! I figured that I would be able to quickly decide whether they could get the same review or need to be separate based on critical differences … look for my PSP Mini review of the game coming soon. The Hype: Embark on a brain-bending adventure that’s full of unique hidden object fun.

PSP Mini Game Review: Mahjongg Artifacts Chapter 2
Not long ago I reviewed the recently released Mahjongg Artifacts , which was a sequel to one of the earliest PSP Minis, Mahjongg Artifacts Chapter 2. Recently Sony announced that more than 1 million PSP Minis had been downloaded worldwide … and guess what game was #8 on the ‘top ten most popular’ list? That’s right – Mahjongg Artifacts Chapter 2! So to celebrate that achievement the kind folks at G5 have provided us a review copy of their hit game. The Hype: Mahjongg Artifacts: Chapter 2 is one of the most popular mahjong games on PC now available on PSP Minis. Pair up tiles to dismantle hundreds of layouts.

AT&T’s Pantech Pursuit. Quick review
Word of the Pantech Pursuit, one of Pantech’s latest touchscreen phones, hit the wires earlier this year in an AT&T press release alongside several other like-minded Quick Messaging Devices (QMD), including the Pantech Link, Samsung Strive, and Samsung Sunburst. The Samsung phones were pictured all over the place, but Pantech was much more shy, only giving basic specs on its new offerings. When I finally was able to look at the Pursuit up close and personal, pictures were not available. I wasn’t allowed to take pictures of it, though I could play with it as much as I wanted to and write up my thoughts and some specs on the device

Amazon Announces Huge eBook Sales Numbers As the Sky Falls on Publishers
(image courtesy Vator.tv ) Amazon is normally very tight-lipped about Kindle sales. Today, though, they pulled back the curtain a bit, and the peek inside should be enough to send traditional publishing and bookstores screaming for their xanax. Apparently, in the last three months, Amazon has sold 180 Kindle eBooks for every 100 hardcover books

Pogoplug Drops The Pink, Goes Business Class
By Evan Ackerman I’ve had my Pogoplug for a several months now, and I’m still a big fan… Enough of a fan to have gone and bought a couple for my job (what, you think I blog for a living? HA!). Now I’m kicking myself, though, because Pogoplug is introducing the Pogoplug Biz, which not only includes a whole bunch of useful business-y features, but also comes in a color that isn’t purplish-pink. Chiefly, the Pogoplug Biz is a way of making stuff on your computers (say, projects) available to other people (say, clients) in a way that’s easy for you to manage and easy for them to access. The Biz differs from the regular Pogoplug (which also has this capability) by letting you control the entire process, customizing the Pogoplug interface to integrate directly with your business and avoiding the inevitable question from your clients of “what the heck is a Pogoplug and why do I have to get my files from it?” There’s a whole host of other cool stuff that you can do with the Pogoplug Biz, and we’ve got the entire rundown, after the jump.

Slacker Radio and ABC News Hook Up To Provide Personal Radio Service
I love Slacker Radio. I love the way it reintroduced me to the music I loved as a kid . I love the fact that it now caches radio stations for Slacker Plus subscribers. And I love the fact that it now runs in the background on iDevices running iOS 4.0.

JAVOedge Cherry Blossom Back Cover for iPad Review
Click for more detail In June, I posted an announcement for the JAVOedge Cherry Blossom Back Cover for iPad. As you know, I love a good case, and I’m always looking for a new one to add to my collection. I loved the beautiful Asian-style fabric on these back covers, so I asked Julie if she’d request a red one for me. JAVOedge not only sent me the red one I asked for, they graciously sent me one of each color. Let’s give them a try.

Slacker brings ABC News to Slacker Plus
Section: Audio , Portable Audio , Web , Online Music/Video As of this morning you can now get your news by way of Slacker Radio, that is as long as you are a Slacker Plus subscriber. The good news is that current Plus subscribers will have two ways to get their news—one by selecting the ABC News station from within the News category and two by having news headlines read on your current station each hour. As for number two, that can be added on a station by station basis by selecting the Fine Tune option for the station you choose. “Slacker listeners have access to reporting and in-depth audio coverage on the ABC News station from a team of ABC News anchors and correspondents, including Diane Sawyer and George Stephanopoulos

Nokia N8′s ‘official’ Facebook page
The Nokia N8 has a facebook page ! Well it’s not the first one, there are others there already. This one with almost 16k likes Another with 8K This one with 2K But I think this one is the official one (well via NokNok which is Nokia sponsored). It’s got ‘proper’ tabs anyway for a professional looking page, and the picture is new to me. Note the Symbian (not O2) duck.
