Google Maps Navigation reviews

Google – master of the universe – as you know came up with their own, completely free GPS navigation program, Google Maps Navigation . There are a few reviews around and we thought we could share them with you: gadgeteer : Mostly positive review but the down sides are screen size, voice quality, and of course data access… A nice fix would be for the navigation to load in all the maps for the route, so I don’t need to sweat the connectivity. Every network has holes, I assume Verizon has far fewer, but it is still annoying.

Video: Droid Advert – or Nokia N900 advert?

As well as a Nokia N900 advert, this could also be a Nokia N97/N97 mini advert based on how the Motorola Droid is supposed to be “better” than the iPhone. Real Keyboard Running Simultaneous apps (N900 multitasks like no other) Customizable 5MP camera Flash for night photos Removable battery Runs widgets on homescreen Allows open development Heck, this could have been about a lot of phones. (I’m aware of the differences between the Moto Droid and N900 – but based on the iDon’t video, Verizon’s ad could be talking about either) The original As much as comparisons will be made highlighting the improved hardware advantages of phone X over the iPhone, none of it will ever actually matter until someone makes a phone that’s much more usable/user friendly than the iPhone itself.

Acer Liquid A1 Review

Acer may not be the first manufacturer that springs to mind when you think about leading manufacturers of mobile phones, but that hasn’t stopped them coming to market with a handset that currently boasts the best spec on any officially confirmed device running on the Android operating system. For fear of repeating ourselves, it is worth stating once again, that the Android OS is going to be big news, as 2009 comes to a close and we look forward to 2010. The coming 12 – 18 months are going to be important times for the mobile industry, as traditionally popular manufacturers and established systems are being challenged by a smart, upstart system that brings a new level of power and flexibility to the way we use our mobile phones for communication. We really have reached the point in the evolution of the mobile phone that to continue to call it such really does little service to recognise just how powerful these communication products are. These days telephony is but one basic element on offer, as we are starting to see a range of handsets that offer superb integration with a wide range of web based services, whilst continuing to push the boundaries on entertainment and media.

Blackberry Bold 2 9700 Review

For too long now, BlackBerry have been missing an all doing, all performing, top end smartphone in their line up, something that could take on the upstart devices from the likes of Nokia and others, and compete not just in terms of functionality, but in terms of specification, too. In today’s market, it is almost unforgiveable that a newly released mobile device could lack 3G connectivity, it should be a nailed on expectation in all but the most basic of phones, yet with the two more recent handsets from BlackBerry, the 8900 and 8520 Curve , 3G was missing. But now BlackBerry are ready to run, with a device that is set to be a flagship standard for all subsequent releases, the BlackBerry Bold 2 9700 . The original Bold was one of the few BlackBerry devices to run on 3G, and the new model has not only that, but also HSDPA Mobile Broadband, which should really enhance the web browsing experience. But, not only that, the new Bold 2 also delivers with WiFi, too! It is almost too much to take in, finally a BlackBerry device offering all the major connection options together, in one package! OK, so enough with the sarcasm, but it is still a valid point.

Video How to: Redownload Applications from the Ovi Store (and other content!) version 1.05 (387)

Redownloading lost content from the Ovi Store was once a major hurdle. From not being able to at all to having to contact support to email you back with a 2-hour window in which you can download  your app. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ogexvJI6EY8 Via NokiaConversations Now (as it should have been all along)  you can redownload your paid applications!: go into “My Stuff” within the Ovi Store app (Left of the recommended bar – this is “My Download History” view of all content; apps, videos, wallpapers, themes and ringtones, Free and Paid) and just redownload your purchased applications (No longer does it say “Purchase” for your purchased apps, you can redownload your paid apps as you wish.) You have to make sure that you have the latest 1.05 (387). You’ll get an automatic prompt to update Ovi Store when you start the Ovi Store App. As you can see from the screenshots below, there are way too many clicks for an update when really it should just be one click.

Team Alpha: All the Mutant-Shooting Action You Can Handle

Team Alpha is a shoot-em-up, action game where, according to Sad Cat Software, your task “is to eradicate all mutants in a government lab where a secret biological experiment has gone awry.” The app offers nearly 200 rooms of mutant-shooting mania with big guns. Good times. You’ll get a top-down view as you navigate from room to room. The graphics are crisp, with your typical monsters and mutants color scheme. Runnin’ and gunnin’ isn’t usually my thing, so I was concerned that I would have a tough time testing Team Alpha.

Police Scanner or Emergency Radio?

If you’re one of those edge-of-your-seat types that enjoys following police, fire and EMS transmissions there are half a dozen apps that make it easy to listen to those calls on your iPhone. Most of the scanner apps are still rookies with less than a month in the App Store. Only two of them — Police Scanner by Juicy Development LLC and Emergency Radio by EdgeRift, Inc — are seasoned veterans with experience and multiple updates under their belt. Both apps do a very good job of providing live streaming transmissions to your iDevice, but there are subtle differences between them

Sparkz: Qix Clone Finds new Generation of Gamers on the iPhone

(Editor’s Note: Sparkz is free today, October 20 for a one-day promotion!) Sparkz is a puzzle game with a long history. The app is a reproduction of the vintage Mac game Qix, which was in turn based on an earlier arcade game. And while I never played Qix, I hear that Sparkz does an excellent job of porting the popular arcade puzzle to the iPhone platform. The goal in  Sparkz is to fence off the screen by traveling a perimeter of your own design to create closed shapes: square, rectangle, etc.

The best Unix Web Hosting in the world

One of the most important things in my life is my internet broadband connection at home. And without my internet connection at home my life would be colorless, monotonous, and dull as dishwater because without it I couldn’t always update my twitter, Facebook, WordPress Personal Blog and other social network accounts which are of importance for me, besides my broadband connection at home enables me to shoot instant messages to my buddies around the globe using an ICQ and AOL Instant messaging client installed on my PC. Moreover, without internet connectivity at home I could not snap up my most-liked best seller available at Amazon online shop. To tell you the truth, if ever I wouldn’t have my internet connection at home, I wouldn’t be able to put up for sale my out of fashion duds thru Ebay.

TuneWiki brings its social media player to Symbian S60 5th Edition devices

TuneWiki is bringing its social media player to the Symbian S60 5th Edition devices. The company showcased the application at this year’s DEMOfall 09 demoing it on Nokia ( NYSE: NOK )’s recently announced X6 smartphone. Of course, the app can work on other S60 devices as well (non-touch enabled S60 smartphones included), and the version for Series 40 feature phones is in development. What’s especially interesting about the S60 version of TuneWiki is that it offers a “Follow Me” feature, allowing a user’s social network to see what that user is listening to. The player also allows music videos to be viewed with subtitled lyrics, and the user can “blip” a link to his or her social networks to display the music being played

Changing the Product Code on your Nokia N97

What is a Product Code and why would I want to change it? The Nokia N97 has hundreds of different product codes for all the different carrier types and countries around the globe. This product code is used by the Nokia Software Updater to load carrier specific firmware to your device when it becomes available. Unfortunately, some carriers prevent updates as they do not approve every firmware builds. This means that some users will not get the full benefits of the latest updates from Nokia when everyone else gets access to them, such as the recent update to Ver.12 fo the firmware.
