It hasn’t been that long since the i7500 Galaxy was launched in the UK, selling at the moment on the O2 network. The slimmest Android based phone to date, the i7500 further confirms the commitment of Samsung to producing high end, high spec handsets across a whole range of operating platforms, wherever you look, there is a Samsung phone available. Windows Mobile, Symbian, Android, plus Samsung’s own operating system, a whole feast of mobile phones. Samsung even get a look in with the new Vodafone 360 handsets, and even on the iPhone, as many a geek will have fun informing that “40% of the iPhone is made by Samsung, ya know” Samsung also have a habit of releasing handsets to suit many budgets, ranging from the high end smartphone down to the basic budget pay as you go device, and the handset we are going to look at in more detail now is the Galaxy i5700 Spica , a slightly lower spec version of the Samsung Galaxy. The Samsung Spica, or Galaxy Lite as it may also be known as, has a stunning AMOLED capacitive touchscreen, supporting up to 16 million colours and measuring 3.2 inches, with a screen resolution of 320 x 480.
Acer should not be an unknown name to many purchasers of mobile electronics; they have been producing laptops for quite a while now. In fact, they are the leading laptop manufacturer in the world, and second only to HP in computer manufacture. Acer is a fairly new name in the world of mobile phone manufacture though, and really their path in this industry has started to come about since their acquisition of E-Ten products. E-Ten had started promoting its own brand, Glofiish, but since the acquisition all products will be branded with the Acer name.

Nokia Announces Three Entry-Level CDMA Phones in China
Nokia today release three new CDMA phones, which are Nokia 6316s, Nokia 3806, and Nokia 1506, in Beijing, the capital city of China. These new Nokia phones are not as sexy looking as China’s Michael Jackson phone; in fact, they look very dull and old. However, Nokia seems like very confident that these new phones will sell in China, the electronics manufacturing hub for the world. “Nokia is boosting its leadership in the CDMA market by updating an already strong line-up with products that appeal to a wide range of customer needs,” said David Tang, Vice President of Nokia China. “Of these devices, the Nokia 6316s is bringing exciting 3G services to life for users in China,” added Mr Tang
Video Review: Nokia N97 Mini Review – The Phones Show – Episode 94
This episode by Steve Litchfield reviews Nokia’s N97 mini. The mini is the baby brother of the original N97, (seemingly) created to rectify to abysmal mistakes when Nokia succumed yet again poor compromises which rendered the original N97 somewhat ever so frustrating in general day to day use. There are several positive notes that Steve makes, contrasting even the first Review of the mini by Mobile-Review’s Eldar and giving the keyboard a thumbs up.

Location-based social network Loopt adds new features
Last week, the people from Loopt, the location-based social network, offered to send me some embargoed information. I ignored the email. It’s nothing against them specifically — I’ve just found location-based social networks to be a bit creepy. But then, after reading the information on CrackBerry , I realized that I was being a bit selfish. Just because I don’t prefer something doesn’t mean that the BBGeeks out there feel the same.
Company migrates mobile users from BlackBerry to Windows Mobile
RIM vs WM According to WMPowerUser , Global Crossing, a telecommunications firm which provides networking services such as VPN, video conferencing and VoIP in 60 countries and has over 5000 employees is in the process of moving from Blackberrys to Windows Mobile smartphones. According to Steven Schafer, Director of Network Services at Global Crossing “ RIM requires that you pay for a license for the BlackBerry servers…. You pay a license for every BlackBerry user that you have connected, and then you also pay for support and maintenance for the servers and users. ” Schafer is counting on such a smooth integration with Exchange 2010 and Office Communications Server.
Nokia N97 with holographic displays? No, it’s just Ads: Get to the Good Things – ‘A splash in the dessert’ and ‘Let’s Rock’
Nokia have released a couple of ads about getting to the “Good Things” using Ovi Maps. If you check it out, you’ll see some fancy holographic UI looking elements. It looks really cool! I know it’s merely there to just label and describe what’s happening but I’m actually finding it a little annoying to see this pretend “UI” looking so much better than the actual interface of the phone itself. How awesome would it be if Symbian looked any where close to that! Not so much the holographic part, but the animation, speed and appearance of the contextual information.
Hello Blackberry Curve…Goodbye HTC Diamond Touch Pro
Well my son’s sorry HTC Diamond Touch smartphone was finally laid to rest a few weeks ago. As much as we tried to make this phone work for my son we just couldn’t do it. He is a heavy internet user and also sends and receives quite a few text messages each day. The battery just wasn’t holding up on this phone. No matter what we tried it just wasn’t performing

Androids vs Windows Mobile Up until the last couple of years Windows Mobile faced no major threats in the touch screen smartphone division. As a result of this the innovation in Windows Mobile over the years has been minimal too. Check out the video below which shows the evolution of Windows Mobile . Up until WM6.5 it looks the bloody same, no major changes in the UI department from Microsoft ( kudos to HTC for bringing out HTC Cube , TouchFlo and Samsung for its ToucWiz UI ).
Pics: White Nokia and Garnet N97 Mini (+Poll – White, Garnet or Black N97 mini?)
In addition to the standard black N97 mini, it will also be coming, not just in white, but in garnet red. Let’s hope the white N97 mini doesn’t fall prey to the same quality issues (light leakage, paint chipping, staining, poorer quality keyboard) that the original white N97 did. ( see this post about my previous troubles with the white N97 )
Bold 2, Storm 2, Curve 2. We’ve talked about them a lot on the BBGeekcast lately, and now we’re starting to see them up close. The Storm 2 is already out, and the Bold 2 drops very soon. Next up, the Curve 2, which is our main topic of conversation this week
Looks like our pals down under in Aussie land will have to wait a little while for the new BlackBerry Bold 9700 smartphone as a report over on computer world says the BlackBerry Bold 9700 won’t be hitting Australia until late November. Although the BlackBerry Bold 9700 is somewhat seen as a replacement for the BlackBerry Bold 9000, it is more of a companion as Research In Motion managing director, Adele Beachley has said “We are not trying to replace the 9000 — it is still selling well. We are providing a choice in the market.” Quick spec reminder…6.2cm light-sensing display, full QWERTY keyboard, touch sensitive trackpad, 3.2 megapixel camera with auto-focus and flash, GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth, 3.5mm jack, and microSD expansion.
We reported not too long ago on a Dell Mini 3iX Android based smartphone heading for Brazil, well apparently the Dell Mini 3iX is now also headed for the USA, as unwired view reports that the FCC has just approved the Dell Mini 3iX smartphone. The Dell Mini 3iX packs GSM 850/1900 and UNTS bands so all that’s really needed is a combined announcement from AT&T and Dell. Spec wise the Dell Mini 3iX sports a 3.5 inch touch screen, A-GPS, Microsoft Exchange, a 3 megapixel camera with auto-focus and WiFi, but no word as to which Android OS version the Dell Mini 3iX will run.
The invasion of the Droid has begun and a tad prematurely as the guys over at engadget mobile report receiving several images of the Motorola Droid on sale at unspecified Best Buy Mobile somewhere in the good ole US of A. Apparently the word is Best Buy Mobile representative could sell the Motorola Droid as of yesterday the 5th, so if you haven’t got the Droid bug yet it may be worth checking with your local Best Buy store. Furthermore they are also reporting that Wal-Mart also was selling Droid early, and so has Target Mobile Solutions
It appears iPhone carrier AT&T will be adding two new touch screen Samsung devices to their portfolio as of November the 8th in the form of the Samsung Flight and Samsung Mythic according to a report by unwired view . The Samsung Flight lacks 3G and features a 2 megapixel camera, a touch screen, with support for AT&T Mobile Music service and AT&T Navigator, and comes in the cheaper of the two Samsungs at $99 on contract and after rebate
