OS 4 Beta Mini Review – Folders

The iPhone and iPod Touch has made a phenomenal achievement application deployment with the widely successful App Store.  Apple’s App Store gave many developers a chance to share their apps with the world.  And like all iPhone and iPod Touch users, I too downloaded many apps onto my device to use.  Many of them are games but there are some very useful productivity apps among my downloads. … [ visit site to read more ] Filed in categories: Reviews , iPhone, iPad, iPod related Tagged: iPhone , os 4 OS 4 Beta Mini Review – Folders originally appeared on The Gadgeteer on May 2, 2010 at 10:30 am.

Video: HD Video Sample of Nokia N8 real Digital Zoom (user Proto N8)

Here’s another sample of the N8 video ( taken from Amhed360′S post before it was removed ) It’s not by Nokia, it’s from a user. The other one I’ve seen (N8 on a plane ) that no one else managed to see matched the quality of Nokia’s official video sample.

ViewRanger now good for iPhone and Android

We’ve talked about ViewRanger here before and now see it has finally made it to both iPhone and Android platforms. It can’t be too long before we see it on iPad. If you haven’t heard ViewRanger before it’s an off-road topographic map navigation that can also be used as a sports GPS, buddy beacon tracking, etc. It’s been getting some decent reviews and now that they’ve covered almost all platforms they’re sure to gain more traction in topographic maps app category.

Quick Look: MusicID for iPhone

MusicID is the new music recognition app on the block, but with its insanely low sale price and gorgeous interface, I think it stands a good shot at topping the Music charts on the App Store. Symbian unveils new web app development tools

Symbian released its web application development tools, making application development on the platform “as easy as creating a webpage.” In other words, any web developer with a knowledge of HTML, CSS and some JavaScript can create mobile apps that run on Symbian smartphones, including the newly unveiled Nokia N8 . The good thing about these tools is that they allow accessing even some of the phone’s deep device capabilities — including contacts, camera, sensors, location, etc. — with JavaScript (there are special APIs for accessing phone-specific features).

Video: Virtual Reality 3D Head Tracking on the Nokia N900 (maybe Winscape soon too?)

Anyone remember that insanely smart Johnny lee and his nintendo wii head tracking? Now it’s on the Nokia N900! Here’s one of Johnny’s many incredible videos, way, way ahead of his time This has obvious applications in gaming and Johnny’s already demonstrated that it can be used like a virtual window. Winscape takes this to another level, integrating two huge screens that make it appear like they are real windows. You move and the view changes

Nokia X2 Review

With all the attention focussed on the Nokia N8 announced this week, Nokia sneaked out another new handset, the Nokia X2. The X2 doesn’t come anywhere near the N8 in terms of features, but what it does show is that Nokia are in a position to release what would have been a strong mid range device just a while ago as a bargain budget handset, with a price to match.

Official Twitter App Launched For Android 2.1

After acquiring Tweetie , so they can launch an official Twitter app for iPhone, and after working with RIM to make an official Twitter app for BlackBerry , Twitter have now released an official app for Android . Sadly, it is only compatible with Android 2.1 devices — the unfortunate side-effect of Android’s break-neck pace of development. The app actually looks really good, both visually and feature-wise. I currently use Twidroid Pro , and have dabbled with Seesmic (I’m loose like that), but this app seems like it could replace them both (just as soon as HTC pump out that European Hero 2.1 update… *shakes fist*). It has some interesting features, such as the ability to sync tweets with your phonebook contacts so you can view your pal’s latest tweets straight from your phonebook, or anywhere that uses Android’s QuickContact bar

Quick Look: Fuji Leaves for iPhone

Fuji Leaves is more of a music box than a game. You position rocks over sets of magical leaves and create little melodies as said rocks bounce off of the strangely solid vegetation. It can be a mesmerizing  experience — if a little short-lived.(…) Read the rest of Quick Look: Fuji Leaves for iPhone © Ragart for Just Another iPhone Blog , 2010. | Permalink | | Add to del.icio.us Post tags: music app , music box

Paid-for Reviews to Scam the App Store – There’s a Site for That

Unscrupulous app developers who want to flat-out BUY positive reviews in the App Store now have a web site to go to to purchase them in neat little packages Unbelievable, way out of order, and real.  The screencap above is from the home page of the YourAppReviewed.com site.  As you can see, they are selling ‘packs’ of positive reviews for any developer who is willing to put all ethics and decency aside and scam the App Store review system.

Video: Orange Nokia N8 Pinch and Zoom Multitouch WebBrowser (+live pics of orange N8 and HDMI adapter)

Camb078 has found a video of the N8 web browser via DailyMobile Forum Member modysd and has uploaded it for everyone to enjoy. Apparently, this is an old video and the pinchy zoominess is smoother now and will be even more by release day. Some interesting things quoted by orange N8 tester: “software is still under developing” “the camera can use  12, 9, 3, 1.3, 0.3 MP , and for recording you will have three options (MMS , DVD , HD)” “the phone has one speaker near the camera but it is good and loud [chatting on twitter last night, the loudspeaker is supposed to be the most powerful ever used on a Nokia. The best ever is on the N800 - a huge tablet that can afford good speakers...can N8 really be that good?] “i hated symbian after buying the nokia n97 but now i changed my mind” Ahmed360 is the original source. http://www.arabnokia.net/showthread.php?t=739789 Alternative link as the above is down HDMI adapter dailymobileforum via blog-n8.fr Video: Orange Nokia N8 Pinch and Zoom Multitouch WebBrowser (+live pics of orange N8 and HDMI adapter) http://bit.ly/dqWiXE

If you ned a case for your BlackBerry Curve 8520 or 8530, then maybe you’ll be interested in this new case from OtterBox. Video: Nokia N8 hand freestyler sneak peak guy – Max Vlassenko.

I’m sure you’ve seen this sneak peak video of the Nokia N8 alternating between the 5 available colours whilst doing some acrobatics The guy behind that is a young guy called Max Vlassenko. Some videos from his channel on youtube: Another TV appearance I hope Nokia are doing some more work with Max and N8, namely using the N8′s HD video to film his skills so everyone can enjoy it in HD (unless the video is already by N8…ha, no unlikely as there are some close shots and the N8 has video focused from 60 to infinity.) More marketing please Nokia ^_^ Make everyone get buzzed about mobile photography again.

BlackBerry Pearl 3G Review

When the original BlackBerry Pearl was announced back in 2006, it caused quite a stir. Until that point, BlackBerry handsets were rather large, and chunky, and very wide. But then came the Pearl, and suddenly Blackberry handsets were almost the size of a normal mobile device. The size issue with Blackberry handsets was caused by the inclusion of full QWERTY keyboards, and whilst handsets these days with full QWERTY are a much more manageable size, something like the Pearl still has a place in the pocket of some mobile users.

Zombie Smash: Visceral Evisceration

Visually and thematically, Zombie Smash may remind you of its somewhat more lush castle-defense cousin Plants vs. Zombies . Sound effects are similar too, as are the as-you-go instructions that appear over your screen. But “look” is where the similarities end, and “feel” is where the differences begin. In Zombie Smash, you do what you’ve always wanted to do to Zombies.

Rediscover Your Groove

A newbie in the long and growing list of music apps, Groove lets you take your music library for a new spin by providing a quick and easy way to listen to your songs. Groove was designed to help users “rediscover” their music library and it accomplishes this by being organized, intuitive, and bit more than “genius.” Groove’s options are simple. Choose Feelin’ Groovy to get a mix of songs that go well together based on a song chosen at random from your library, or choose Surprise Me for a randomly generated mix, artist, or album. Users can also choose Favorites to access a mix of frequently listened to songs and Three of a Kind plays up to five sets of three songs by the same artists. Each of the music mixes generated by Groove contains up to 15 songs

Are you really a Proclaimer, or are you just holding an iPhone awkwardly over your eyes?

I’m actually a real asian male, but with I’m Proclaimer loaded in front of my face, I look positively Scottish (like those guys from the Proclaimers). I’ve played the song “ 500 Miles ” well over 500 times in my lifetime, and so I thought I owed it to the band to check out their first app in this ultra quick review. Advantages : Two whole Proclaimer faces to choose from Increased kilt-wearing ability Genuine blinking action Disadvantages : Temporary loss of sight and mobility Punches to the face can now destroy iPhone Cannot load I’m Proclaimer *and* Voice Band simultaneously (real singing voice still required) Sure, I’m Proclaimer is just a marketing trick to spread the word of the band’s real upcoming app, iProclaimer , but it worked on me. The website is even going to offer a version of the app that comes with a free roll of tape (to save you the trouble of holding the iPhone up to your face — hands-free impersonating!) © Ragart for Just Another iPhone Blog , 2010.

SoundHound “Lite” released for iPhone

Big Ol’ Disclaimer: I did a bit of work (promo videos) for SoundHound earlier this year, but this news post isn’t endorsed or sponsored by SoundHound in any way. SoundHound is pretty amazing for quickly identifying music, providing lyrics, and finding new, similar songs. However, until recently, there hasn’t been any free demo version of the app to attract new initiates (which, I think, Shazam has capitalized on). One of our site readers, John, commented on how much of a difference trial/demo/lite versions made to him and the probability of his eventual purchase, so, hopefully, this demo can help people see why they should invest in the full version of SoundHound.
