Despite AntennaGate, Business Booms for Apple
It’s hard to keep away from Apple these days, as the iPhone continues to hog headlines for all sorts of reasons. But looking at facts and figures, it would seem that whilst the iPhone 4 antenna has been the focus of many over the last few weeks, it hasn’t had much of an impact on the overall success of device, in terms of sales. Overall sales of the iPhone, in all its variations, came to 8.4 million, an amazing 61% increase in year on year numbers. The iPhone 4 accounted for over 3 million of these, and most manufacturers can only dream of producing a handset that sells in such high numbers in such a short space of time. Without doubt the negative views in recent days will have had an impact on recent sales figures, and we can only wonder at how many more sales there would have been had the whole AntennaGate issue not erupted

iPhone 4 Accessory: InvisibleShield Bumper Alternative: Video
Now although Apple is generously offering a free Bumper case to every iPhone 4 user to solve the iPhone 4 antenna issue, some may not want to have a Bumper over their sleek new device and would prefer not to change the look of the smartphone. Well what we have for you today is an alternative solution to the iPhone 4 antenna issue that doesn’t require the user covering their device with a unsightly surround. Enter the InvisibleShield from Zagg , which is basically an invisible band-aid type sticker to cover the gap in the iPhone 4 antenna and seems to do the job well. The InvisibleShield looks like a solution that will enable the user to keep their iPhone 4 in the design it was mean to be unhindered by a bulky surrounding case, which no doubt some wouldn’t mind handing over a few bucks for. We have a video demo of Zagg’s InvisibleShield for the iPhone 4 for your consideration below courtesy of the guys over at Technobuffalo , so check it out before finalising your options…enjoy.

Apple iPhone 4 Bumper Giveaway to Cost $175 Million
How much is the price for a good reputation for a company? Well in order to keep customers happy over the iPhone 4 antennagate issue, Apple has promised to give a free bumper case to every iPhone 4 customer through till September’s end, which is obviously going to cost Apple a pretty penny. According to an article over on Ubergizmo , in keeping iPhone 4 customers happy by doing a bumper case giveaway, Apple has announced it will cost them a cool $175 million to do so. Having said that, when you consider a analysts estimated cost of a full iPhone 4 recall being around $1.5 billion, although the actual figure for a full scale recall isn’t confirmed, $175 million doesn’t seem that bad at all for allying the wrath of the iPhone user. Of course Apple stock holders won’t be too pleased with that $175 million figure, but like I said what acceptable price can you put on a company’s reputation for being fair to its customers

Motorola Droid 2 Comes with Android 2.2 Confirmed
When the latest Droid device is launched on Verizon Wireless, namely the Motorola Droid 2 , the device was rumoured to pack the latest Android operating system from Google, Android 2.2 Froyo, well apparently the rumours were right. According to an article over on Droid-Life , the guys over at Phandroid have managed to get hold of a couple of Verizon device database screenshots which seem to confirm that the Motorola Droid 2 will indeed come with Android 2.2 Froyo. Unfortunately though the screen captures don’t confirm anything else in the way of Motorola Droid 2 specifications that have been floating round the net waves recently, but do indeed show that Android 2.2 Froyo will be playing nice on the Droid 2 on release. And as reported earlier the expected launch of the Motorola Droid 2 is now August 12th , so are any of our readers going to grab the Droid 2 on launch

TouchTec Pen iPhone/iPad Stylus Review
The TouchTec pen is a new product from the creators of the TouchTec gloves that we are super crazy about. The TouchTec Pen is a “Multi-function Capacitive Touch Screen Stylus and Ball Point Pen”. In other words, it’s a pen that also can operate as a iPad/iPhone stylus. There are quite a few iPhone/iPad compatible styluses out there on the market, but what makes the TouchTec Pen unique is that it also doubles as a pen

Video: Apple Uses Nokia N97 mini (+more) to deflect antenna gate issue – the cheek of it! Can’t make N97 mini lose signal completely like iPhone 4…
The official Apple page on youtube has been uploading some videos of competing smartphones to demonstrates what they consider to be similar antenna problems as their own iPhone 4 which when touched decides to kill your signal. When signal strength is reduced sufficiently on the iPhone 4, it eventually CUTS your call

Will you get a WP7 or will you wait for xda to port WP7 to HD2 ?
We have seen a lot about WP7 over the months from the initial launch to the hands on reviews by the select few tech blogs . Granted there are flaws in the OS ( multitasking , copy-paste are the most talked about ) and there are some great features like xbox live integration ( that will never come to other devices like the iPhone or Android ), sharepoint integration , etc. We should see some exclusive 3rd party game titles some time in August

FileMaker Pro squeezes onto an iPhone
FileMaker Pro, the Mac’s answer to Microsoft Access, is now available for iOS – allowing the iPhone and iPad into the enterprise, as long as the enterprise is using FileMaker. To be fair, FileMaker Pro is now available for Windows too, but with its Claris heritage it’s hard not to think of it as a Mac product first and foremost

Mobile Edge EVO Backpack Review and Giveaway!
I normally hate traveling for work; juggling a computer, work files, ebook reader, etc. is a pain. However, now that I’ve been trying the Mobile Edge Evo Backpack for a few weeks, I wish I traveled more often so I could use a bag like this! My first impression of the Evo backpack was that it was a complete beast of a bag. It seemed physically large, but when I put it on it didn’t feel as big

Contributing your ideas to the Open Source community
With both of Nokia’s chosen OS’s for their mid and high range handsets being open sourced, it means that a lot of the work and development on these aspects of the OS is done very much in the open and can be accessed with as little effort as it’d take to register for a forum for example. While this access to *some* elements of the OS can be had well in advance of release, the main reason for Nokia’s drive for open source in my humble opinion is to get input and ideas from a wide variety of people with different perceptions, needs, wants, interests and backgrounds. Much more input than would have been possible within the confines of an office in Finland or the UK for example. Having posted numerous videos and blog posts on Symbian and MeeGo, the coming changes with regards to their UI’s and capabilities etc and received valid and valued feedback, I thought it important to get this message across to our few (but vocal) readers

Using the Ovi App Wizard
Nokia released a while back a cool online application called Ovi App wizard which lets you use the RSS feeds of your website to create tiny little apps and publish them to the Ovi store, obviously the idea was poo pooed by the media a while back and no one talked about it since, well Ewan from Mobile Industry Review made a screencast of the process of creating the application and well I was amazed by the simplicity of being able to create an app so easily even if it is only an RSS feed. Again credit goes to Nokia for trying to make it easier for developers to make applications. Nice Nokia N8 BTW in the ad above You can see the screencast here via Mobile Industry Review

iPad Game Review: Mystery of the Crystal Portal
I had bought Mystery of the Crystal Portal for my iPad when I was heading out on vacation. While I was quite occupied with Puzzle Quest 2 on the DS, I love the occasional ‘hidden object’ game, and have been VERY happy with stuff from G5 games (like Mahjongg Artifacts ) … so I figured I’d give it a try. When I came back I got a message from G5 noting that the game was being released as a PSP Mini and offering me a review copy, which I quickly accepted! I figured that I would be able to quickly decide whether they could get the same review or need to be separate based on critical differences … look for my PSP Mini review of the game coming soon. The Hype: Embark on a brain-bending adventure that’s full of unique hidden object fun.
