Mobile Web and Mobile Apps Monetization Strategies

Faced with a prevailing culture where consumers expect web services and digital content to be free, mobile app and mobile web developers need to adopt the right strategy in order to monetize their efforts. The Freemium model is a classic marketing tool available to mobile app developers to maintain the perception of a free service, while attempting to lock-in customers into some type of charging mechanism. (And I recommend reading Chris Anderson’s ‘Free: The Future of a Radical Price’ book for further insights into this). But many of the decisions around charging will stem from a look at the value that the mobile consumer perceives he/she is getting from the app in question. Apps with a low perceived value will struggle to charge anything at all, no matter the charging mechanism

Nokia E72 White Edition shows up on Nokia’s Malaysian website

Nokia ( NYSE: NOK ) is about to launch a new version of its popular E72 smartphone. A new version actually means new color – white. At the moment, the E72 is available in four color options (black, grey, brown and purple) and with the addition of white, I’m betting the Finnish company will move even more units — Nokia E71, which is the predecessor of the E72, is still selling like crazy in white. Anyway, specs wise the device will remain the same. The first country that will get the E72 in white seems to be Malaysia, where the phone already earned its spot on Nokia’s country website

Numo Solutions’ SMS Preview hits 1 million downloads in the Ovi Store

It’s not like every day we talk about Ovi Store success stories. We had Digital Chocolate and Shazam reporting their respective milestones reached, and now we have an even smaller company, Numo Solutions, saying their SMS Preview application has hit the 1 million download mark. The free app is so handy that if I were Nokia ( NYSE: NOK ) I would consider either acquiring Numo or adding that functionality to my phones — Nokia used to be known for the latter practices. As its name says, SMS Preview shows a preview of an incoming text messages and is available in either a free or paid versions

The 10 Most Surprising Things About The iPad

The UPS guy handed me my new iPad just a few hours ago, and yes–the jumbo-sized screen is as glorious as they say, and I was shocked by how good HD videos looked. But I was also surprised by how heavy the iPad feels, and if you were hoping to read e-books all day under the clear, bright blue sky, well…bad news, folks

Lenovo talks up LePhone, shows off app store ahead of May launch

Lenovo talks up LePhone, shows off app store ahead of May launch Lenovo’s Android-based LePhone (not LePhono, sadly) may not be officially launching in China until next month , but the company did just hold a launch event of sorts in the country, in which it revealed a few new details and did a fair bit of boasting. According to The Wall Street Journal , Lenovo says that it’s aiming to sell ‘millions’ of the phones in the next five years, and ‘tens of millions’ after that — although not just involving this particular phone, obviously. Lenovo COO Rory Read also reportedly further added that the company is ready for a ‘ tough fight’ against Apple’s iPhone, and that Lenovo will have a ‘better brand position’ that RIM, which hasn’t yet gained a significant foothold in China. That’s certainly plenty ambitious for a company new to the cellphone space, and should no doubt only further fuel those rumors of a certain acquisition

It was pretty obvious to us when we first saw the iPad that it would definitely be big in the medical field. As it turns out, it looks like hospitals are catching on—case in point, California’s Kaweah Delta. The hospital has ordered 100 iPads for use around their campus. Nick Volosin, the hospital’s director of technical services, sees the iPad as replacing laptops for things like email, checking X-rays, EKG results, and more.

Being slightly OCD about these sort of things I searched around on Google for reviews and recommendations, without a real conclusive decision made, I headed over to Ebay to find out for myself. Looking through various different solutions, I opted for what looked like a bargain; 3x Mirror Screen Protector with accompanying cleaning cloth for £1.59 .

Apple set to finally refresh 30-inch Cinema Display?

If you’ve been waiting to pick up a new 30-inch Apple Cinema Display , but were waiting until Apple released an LED-backlit version, there may be hope for you yet. Now, we don’t want to get your hopes up too much, but from the looks of things, the 30-inch Cinema Display have been pushed back. Typically, they would ship within 24 hours, but as of today, it is showing a 5-7 business day wait. Historically, when there is a large and sudden shipping delay like that, we’ve seen a product refresh follow soon thereafter
