JAVOedge Axis Case for iPad: Don’t Judge a Book By Its Cover

JAVOedge has been churning out accessories for our “i” devices (iPhone, iPad, iPod) for quite some time.  I’ve been happy with many of them but their recently released “Axis” case for the iPad might be one of the most innovative cases I’ve had the opportunity to use. The Axis case looks like a traditional book style iPad case, but don’t judge a book by its cover.  The Axis allows you to prop up your iPad in both the vertical and horizontal positions, a feature I’ve not yet seen on any other iPad case.

Google Nexus One officially sold out

A few days ago, Google made it known that the Nexus One Android smartphone would be reaching the end of life status in short order, but we didn’t think that meant a day or two later. However, as you can see from the image above, Google’s online store is fresh out of Nexus Ones, and they won’t be restocking any more of them. Many argue that the Nexus One was, and still is, the best Android smartphone on the market.

Skype with multitasking support now available for iPhone 4 and 3GS, 3G calls to stay free

Skype has always sort of served as one of the poster children for why iOS just had to allow applications to run in the background. I mean, come on: being able to avoid gobbling up my precious minutes without having to keep the application open all the time just so I don’t miss calls? Yes

Biomass robot eats food, requires litter box

(photo via inhabitat) Researchers at the University of Bristol are hard at work designing robots that can draw power by digesting food . Their latest offering is Ecobot III , which feeds on processed sewage. This doesn’t sound appetizing to me, however it is apparently just the thing that its 48 microbial food cells want to munch on. The microbes extract energy from the food by digesting it, and the robot extracts some of it by harvesting the electrons put off by the microbes.

AT&T Samsung Captivate (Galaxy S) review

The Galaxy S, when announced, had a full 4 hours to bask in the limelight of this year’s CTIA in Las Vegas before Sprint outshone it with the HTC EVO 4G, the country’s very first 4G phone of any kind. While the EVO’s specs were clearly more breathtaking, the Galaxy S still had nothing to cry about.

Crisp Wireless Reveals Venture with Verve Wireless

An interesting mobile partnership to watch could be the freshly announced pairing of Crisp Wireless and Verve Wireless The joint venture aims to help deliver “rich media ad options” to local media outlets, like newspapers. Illustrating yet again the massive influx of mobile advertising efforts to the local level, regional advertisers and publishers will now have the chance to leverage the media mobile ads that Crisp Wireless has been powering for national mobile sites and apps. Verve Wireless, of course, can push the Crisp Mobile Ad Platform within the company’s massive international network of better than 700 newspaper publishers, which include such heavyweights as the Evening Post, Examiner.com, Freedom, McClatchy and Media General. According to the joint statement from both companies, the ads will be interactive and serve up nifty attributes like location awareness and click-to-call – all of which will be customized for use on smartphones and other portable devices running either Android or Apple’s iOS (like the iPad)

Nexus One sold out forever in Google’s store

Can’t say we didn’t warn you that Google only had a final batch of Nexus Ones left to sell in its special online store. No one anticipated it will sell out so fast though. Rat lungs successfully grown in bioreactor: groundbreaking, yet also kind of gross

Bioartifical organs differ from, well, plain ol’ artificial organs because they consist of biomaterials and cells. And while bioartificial livers are becoming increasingly commonplace, it’s only recently that working lungs have been grown in a lab. Working at the Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School in Boston, researchers removed the left lungs from rats and stripped them of cells with a process that left the blood vessels, airways, and connective tissues intact. Using all that as a sort of scaffolding, lung cells were regrown on the scaffolding in a bioreactor.

Fix Your iPhone 4′s Antenna Problem Without a Case

If your iPhone 4 suffers from the “death grip” antenna problem, you’ve certainly heard by now that Apple will be giving you a free case.  If you prefer to use your devices without a case, you probably won’t be happy even with the relatively small Bumper case.  The CoolDecal shop at Etsy is offering a simple vinyl decal that wraps around the metal and creates a buffer between your hand and the antenna.  The decal is high quality, precision-cut, self-adhesive vinyl.  It’s available in a variety of colors and patterns.  If you decide you don’t like the decal, it removes easily and leaves behind no adhesive.  The vinyl decal wraps are $9.99 each at … [ visit site to read more ] Filed in categories: News , iPhone, iPad, iPod related Tagged: iPhone 4 case Fix Your iPhone 4′s Antenna Problem Without a Case originally appeared on The Gadgeteer on July 21, 2010 at 12:00 pm.

Dragon Age: Origins for Mac Gets 1.03 Patch, Return to Ostagar DLC … and As Promised, I Eat My Words

Back when I reviewed the Mac version of the excellent RPG Dragon Age Origins, I was pretty harsh, saying: Of course, there is always the chance that what Transgaming told Matt was accurate and there is a new DLC integration system coming, and all of the patches are coming and Return to Ostagar is coming and so on. I have stated in various Mac gaming forums that I will be very happy to eat my words and publicly state my mistaken assumptions, but for now here is my conclusion: Dragon Age: Origins for the Mac is unsupported abandonware. If you want to be able to get the full Dragon Age experience, I recommend getting set up with Bootcamp so you can play the Windows version

Windows Phone 7: Five+ Devices and Realistic Expectations

As the Windows Phone 7 technical preview device makes the rounds of the blogs, I must admit I am becoming more hopeful as I listen to what Microsoft is saying and they way they are behaving. They have been making very clear that the software version that people are reviewing now is not the final version and that they are still taking feedback, carefully reading all reviews and working 26 hour days to improve the software.

Google’s Nexus One sold out on Google store, never to be replenished

It appears that the Google Nexus One Android smartphone has finally sold out on Google’s online store. As Google said recently, there will be no more direct Google sales of the Nexus One once the supply has dried up, and dried up it has. The Nexus One is still available from some carriers, such as Vodafone. Read the full story here.

Fujifilm shoots out five new cameras: F300EXR, Z800EXR, Z80, JX280 and S2800HD

What you just heard was the sound of five new FinePix cameras popping out of Fujifilm’s doors. Yippie! If all goes well, we’ll be seeing these SDHC -loving / xD -hating babies from late August. Let’s start working through the list: the 12 megapixel, 720p-video (24fps) F300EXR boasts auto-focus speeds that are “as good as” DSLRs , all thanks to the camera’s hybrid auto-focus system — a combination of Contrast AF (as used on most compacts) and Phase Detection AF (as found on most DSLRs).
