Apple said Tuesday that it removed a seller from its online applications store after discovering that he gamed the store’s sales ranking system to make it appear as though his e-books accounted for 42 of the site’s top 50 electronics books. Apple said the hack was carried about by a developer named Thuat Nguyen. “His apps were removed from the App Store for violating the developer Program License Agreement, including fraudulent purchase patterns,” Apple said in a statement. The company did not provide details about how Nguyen managed to rig its sales data. Some observers are speculating that he merely manipulated sales figures, while others believe Nguyen may have actually gained access to App Store user accounts to make unauthorized purchases.
My 4th of July mobile marketing challenge was a huge success. People participating found mobile marketing happening and were so excited to be focusing on the opportunities in mobile. Interestingly, it seems that the opportunities are what we found the most. My specific results for the challenge (which was to keep track of every mobile marketing encounter over the weekend) included only two text message coupons.

Apple set to bring iTunes to the cloud and offer wireless syncing
Our pals over at BGR have got a scoop from a “reliable Apple source” that has told them that the company is preparing for a major shift in their iTunes strategy. Basically, Apple is readying an iTunes cloud service that would bring a few new capabilities to the service, and untether you from keeping and accessing your content strictly off of a local hard drive. Once live, you’d be able to stream your music and movies directly from Apple’s servers to your devices, no matter where you are. Further, you’d be able to steam music and movies from your home computers to your other computers and remote devices, kind of like an extension of Back to My Mac.

Even better than all the new features, though, is the price
Tapulous , the iPhone add development company that built it’s name on the back of Tap Tap Revenge , has been purchased by Disney. Tapulous set up shop in 2008, and purchased the rights to Tap Tap Revenge from creator Nate True. They ventured into some other areas, releasing two Twitter clients ( Twinkle and Tweetsville ) that never really took off, photo sharing app Fortune Cookies , and info exchange app FriendBook , that they quickly pulled due to security concerns (it’s back now.) From there, they forged full steam ahead with multiple variants of Tap Tap Revenge , with two sequels, a bunch of downloadable song packs, and tons of artist-exclusive versions. Riddim Ribbon came later, which was just another rhythm-based music title with different play mechanics. Thing is, Tap Tap Revenge has consistently been a top-seller in the App Store, and Disney must have realized the potential of the brand
