That was quick: New CEO In, N8 Shipments Delayed

Pre-order customers will receive the N8 in October. Here’s two Nokia fun facts for today: former Microsoft Business Division president Stephen Elop started his new job yesterday as Nokia CEO, while long-awaited N8 shipments have been delayed “a few weeks.” Coincidence? I think not! According to Nokia Conversations, the Official Nokia Blog (not to be confused with this one), customers who pre-ordered will receive their N8s in October, instead of late September. We have received a record number of online pre-orders for the Nokia N8.

Nokia Push And Burton – Pushing The Boundaries

Those of you who have your eyes and ears aimed the right direction will be familiar with the PushN900 stuff that happened previously. I covered one of the showcases which involved pole dancing robots, Kryten from Red Dwarf and the winners of the PushN900 hack competition (not in that particular order, nor with any nsfw activities either). Two of the winners, were my favourite – the Solderin Skaters and Kaping With the N900 videos below show what has been achieved by those hacks. Very impressive stuff

Email Moderation Feature

Last year Exchange Server came out which featured several new capabilities. Many of these capabilities helped ease the management actions for email administrators. And in a blog written by Clint Boessen, about one of those new features called, “Email Moderation”, Clint discussed the benefits of having a moderator involved in the email review process . Email Moderation allows for a pre-review of email messages so that they may get forwarded with enough information for a full review to be complete.

Securing Email Part Two-Server to Server

Welcome to part two in a series on securing email. In part one  we introduced the challenge, and three influences; compliance, technology, and support. In this post, we’re going to look at two of the prevailing methods for securing email exchanges between servers… the way two businesses might wish to secure the email exchanges between them to prevent eavesdropping or interception on the Internet. We’ll look at SMTP/TLS and at routing SMTP over a VPN connection, and look at the pros and cons of each method. In server to server solutions, we are looking at securing email exchanges between the MTAs controlling email for two different companies.

Seven Ways to Speed up Your Exchange Experience

Administrators who have ever deployed or maintained Microsoft Exchange will know that it is no mere e-mail server; more than ever, organisations are integrating access to its contacts, calendaring, and collaboration functionality as part of their core business processes. One unfortunate complaint that seems to afflict many users though would be the seemingly inevitable slowdowns in Outlook, resulting in an inferior experience when accessing Exchange.  I can certainly identify with the frustration, having first used Microsoft Outlook in the days of Outlook 95. In order to increase the user satisfaction on your network, let’s take a look at some steps that you can take to ensure that your non-IT colleagues are able to work at their maximum productivity.

Market share shrinkage, Nokia replace CEO

Some time ago, Nokia was looking for a new CEO (Chief Executive Officer). That’s because the previous CEO, Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo is considered less successful in the market. Troubleshooting Long Send and Receive Times

Sometimes sending and receiving email using Outlook and Exchange Server can take a long time especially when using the SEND and RECEIVE buttons. The length of time can vary from 5 minutes to as long as 15 to 20 minutes. It’s possible that the problem is an issue with UDP notifications to Outlook from Exchange Server. In Exchange Server 2010 UDP notifications are not issued and so Outlook, particularly Outlook 2003, is unable to register to receive notifications.

Apps On My Desire

One of the main reasons I got the HTC Desire was the lack of official apps and support found in Nokia’s Ovi Store, let alone the huge difference in quality and choices available on the Android platform. There are still limitations in comparison; storage of apps to SD card for example. Only a handful of apps can be installed on the SD card on Android, whilst it’s the total opposite on Nokia handsets, almost every app can be installed on the SD card, but then again with the little bit of space found in comparison to Android devices it’s no wonder.

Some Reasons for an On-Premise Deployment of Exchange Server

We hear a lot of talk these days about the benefits of a hosted Exchange deployment.  Probably reflecting the desires of IT managers on the ground, Microsoft’s latest and greatest version of the Exchange messaging server, better known as Exchange 2010, was touted by Microsoft to be “designed from the ground up” to be equally at ease running as a hosted service or as an on-premise solution . While running one’s Exchange server on a hosted service certainly does have its allure, e-mail administrators or IT managers ultimately need to consider and weigh the merits of both scenarios carefully.  So when does it make sense for organizations to opt for an on-premise deployment of Exchange? Let’s take a look at some of them today
