Bharti Airtel will launch the iPhone 4 in India in September or October

During their press conference last week, Apple have announced that the iPhone 4 will begin shipping in 17 additional countries or territories before the end of July. However, India was not on that list. Vodafone has previously indicated that it will eventually bring the iPhone 4 to India, but there were no details on when and at what price. Now Sanjay Kappor, Bharti Airtel’s CEO, has stepped in and announced that his company will be selling the iPhone 4 in September or October.

Creation Of A Jedi Masterpiece [Time Lapse Painting]

Robert Burden has not only painted an amazingly awesome 10-foot tall painting of Luke and his Tauntaun from Star Wars , he’s made a time-lapse video of his creation to show the entire delicate process he used to create the geeky artwork (in the styling of an old tapestry). To gain a full appreciation for his work you really need to watch the video: If you’re digging Burden’s work, he also has others inspired by toys from his childhood, including Krang, Voltron, Captain America and even Battle Cat in and out of armor. Take a look at the gallery below for more of Robert Burden’s works: [via io9 ]

Review: Pulse News Mini for iPhone

[Update 7/21: Pulse 1.0.2 was recently released and addressed some of the issues I had with the app, particularly the loading times and scrolling speed.] What Pulse seems to specialize in (and these are my words, not developer Alphonso Studios’) is a more fluid web reading experience, and, at its best, the app feels more like a good e-magazine with customized content than a list of feeds that you trail your finger down.

Tron socks

Really great Tron socks! Chris Wass designed a chart to use in the knitting pattern , too. Originally designed to be a gift for my big brother, whose TRON fandom and enthusiasm over the release of a second movie inspired the sock design. The pattern is written for toe-up socks, with instructions for the Turkish cast-on and two-at-a-time magic loop after the chart pages. Working the foot of the sock is quick, solid knit work with a few contrast stripes. The excitement comes in with the fair-isle stranded color work around the ankle

Exchange Server 2010 Mail Tips Feature

In his article about Microsoft’s new Exchange Server feature, Mail Tips , author Paddy discusses the advantages of Mail Tips. I agree with Paddy that this is a beneficial feature that all users within a company will appreciate. With Mail Tips, an end user – who is a sender of an email – will get helpful information before the sender sends out the email to the recipient. Users will get informative messages about their recipient’s status while they are creating their email messages. Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 can notify the sender of any potential problems with the email message or any statuses of the recipient that the sender should know about such as if the potential recipient is out on vacation.

130-pound hollowed out tree trunk ipod speaker: neat but heavy

I don’t really know why you would use a 130-pound log as an iPod speaker, but I guess the contrast that this creates between the high-tech looks of the iPod and the rough and rugged looks of the log are kind of cool. Naturally, it’s called the iTree, and was created by the Austrian design studio KMKG . They hollowed out the middle of the log, turning the inside of it into an acoustic chamber to help improve frequency response. Customers can choose what kind of wood they want and the length they desire

Nokia Siemens buys Motorola’s switching business for $1.2 billion

Motorola’s slow decline was halted, briefly, by the launch of the Droid line of phones. Now, however, it looks like the company’s money-making switching subsidiary is no longer going to be making money as it’s just been sold to Nokia Siemens for $1.2 billion. While the company still owns its own handset and set-top box operation, the switching side was Motorola’s bread and butter and now it may be going hungry. With the unit, Nokia Siemens gets 50 large customers like China Mobile, Sprint, and Verizon. Motorola will still own the iDEN “push-to-talk” system but has sold off their manufacturing systems for GSM, WiMax, and LTE switches.

nes wooden sculpture: video game console as art

We’ve featured Nintendo systems with wooden components before, but this NES is entirely made out of wood, with the exception of the strings used for the cables: It seems that the console – along with a wooden TV – was made for an exhibit. The sculpture is said to be so well made, “it appears to be a functional Nintendo at first glance.” I’m inclined to disagree since, well, it looks like a wooden sculpture at first glance

Pre-Review Preview: Windows Phone 7

To make a short story shorter: for the last three days, I’ve been one of but a handful of people carrying around a handset running Microsoft’s unreleased Windows Phone 7 operating system. This specific handset isn’t one that’s ever intended for release, and, while it’s looking pretty close to done, the build running on the handset is by no means finalized. With these bits in mind along with my new personal policy of not reviewing big-ticket items until I’ve really lived with them (even if that means not being first out of the gate with a review; for logic, see here ), I present our pre -review of Windows Phone 7 in its nascent state

OtterBox Defender Series Case for iPad

The OtterBox Defender Series Case for iPad offers serious protection for your iPad.  There’s a silicone cover that protects the body of your iPad at all times.  The cover has grip pad areas at the top and bottom that improve your hold and prevent the iPad from sliding around when it’s flat on a table top.  Silicone plugs cover all ports and buttons.  There’s a polycarbonate plate that snaps over the front for screen protection; simply snap it on the back while you’re using the iPad.  The polycarbonate cover also has a built-in stand for watching videos hands-free.  You can even remove a portion of the case so the iPad will still fit into the Apple docking stations.  The case isn’t waterproof, but Otterbox says it is drop, bump, shock, and dust intrusion protection.  It’s $89.95 from
