Verizon FiOS launches faster symmetrical 35Mbps Internet speeds, better HD TV bundles
This morning we got word that Verizon was bolstering their FiOS packages, with the big news (from where we sit) being that the company is now offering a new symmetrical 35/35 Mbps Internet package as part of their “Best” bundle, which also brings an expansion of offerings in their FiOS TV HD package. For those who just want the blazing Internet goodness without the HD, they are also offering a 25/25 Mbps service, and they still offer the 50/20 Mbps service as well, which is a bit odd
At CES 2010 we were able to get a look at the very awesome Boxee Box , a set top box that runs the Boxee software, allowing you to pull in audio, video, and photo content from your home network, attached USB drives, as well as from the Internet, from hundreds of different locations. It even has a built-in Mozilla web browser, so you can pull up content like Hulu as well.
When it comes to managing the number of SMS you receive daily or the number of SMS you may have to send out everyday, we all will probably agree that Nokia haven’t yet implemented any advanced solutions on any of the Symbian devices available in the market. The limited flexibility when it comes to exporting, scheduling or even sorting the Message Inbox is one thing they must really change because many of us will gain a lot of advantages from that.

Square’s iPhone credit card swiping device in action
Remember that awesome iPhone credit card processing device from Square that we told you about a few weeks ago? Well, Kevin Rose just put up a video showing the Square app and iPhone hardware in action. Give the video above a look, as it’s definitely pretty slick. However, we’d love to see them make that credit card dongle a bit more stable before launch. The product is still in beta, but we can’t wait to see this go mainstream.

Gigabyte "Heavy Duty" USB 3.0 PCIe Card Finally Available
Sporting the popular NEC USB 3.0 chip, the Gigabyte Ultra Durable USB 3.0 PCI Express Card is here to juice up your Hi-Speed USB and SuperSpeed USB gadgets. This half sized card fits in those tiny, almost completely useless, mini x1 PCIe ports included on most motherboards. The era of add-on cards died out with the 56k modem, but most motherboards still include some card slots even though we only ever see them when we upgrade our video cards. The only card really worth getting is one of those high fidelity SoundBlaster audio cards as everything else is pretty much built into the motherboard these days. The Gigabyte USB 3.0 card is built around an extra tough 2 oz

Here, we have iriver Smart HD – likely the first HD-ready PMP by the Korean PMP titan. The Smart HD is almost everything most people, especially the Koreans, would hope for.

The latest mobile phone from HTC is named HTC Smart, ironically the ’smartness’ is limited to only the name as this is actually an affordable phone with smartphone features and hence it is stripped of some of HTC’s legendary groundbreaking features. The HTC Smart uses Qualcomm Brew platform along with HTC Sense UI. It will be probably running on a 300MHz processor with 256MB ROM and 256MB RAM. Other standard features include a 2.8-inch QVGA touchscreen display, 3-megapixel camera with integrated flash, 3.5mm headset jack, GSM and HSDPA connectivity, Bluetooth with A2DP, and a microSD card slot.
Samsung has released another pico projecting device Samsung W9600, which is said to be the successor to last year’s W7900. We have not much info about this new W9600 but then it is said to use the Texas Instruments’ WVGA chip for projection, and will feature a 5-megapixel camera, large touch sensitive AMOLED screen display, and also capability to project videos, photos and even W9600’s interface.
Even though the Samung S5550 and the S5500 have almost similar names they are entirely different phones. The latter has lower specs compared to the S5550, but then it is also a slider phone with a 2.2-inch QVGA display, 3.2-megapixel camera, music player, HSDPA connectivity, 15MB internal storage and an expandable microSD card slot

Aside from simply wirelessly displaying and controlling a PowerPoint presentation from your BlackBerry, you can also set a presentation to loop on its own once the Presenter has it cached, and walk away. We give you a full demo of the BlackBerry Presenter in this episode. A big thank you to Bing for sponsoring Gear Live’s CES 2010 coverage
When getting the bombsquad called to school was a badge of honor
Murilee from Jalopnik sez, “After reading your post about the candy-ass school VP who freaked out over that kid’s science project, I remembered my own similar experience in high school (’75 Ford seat-belt buzzer hooked up to batteries and put in a locker, which resulted in school evacuation). This was in 1983- before a handful of terrorists defeated us- which meant that A) my life wasn’t ruined, B) I didn’t have to get ‘counseling,’ C) it wasn’t a national news story, and D) everyone thought it was pretty funny the next day.” Naturally, it didn’t take me long to discover that 8 AAA batteries in a $2.99 Radio Shack holder will provide sufficient current to run a ’75 Ford Elite seat belt buzzer all day long, and- in the mind of a 17-year-old under the influence of certain evil corruptors of youth just across the Bay- there really aren’t too many mental steps between this realization and the idea of placing a battery-powered Ford seat belt buzzer in a high-school locker with the power switch in the ON position. BZZZEEEEEEEEEEEP!!! It’ll drive everyone crazy! Ho ho! So, a few hours later I’m in physics class, having already mostly forgotten about the maddening Malaise soundtrack issuing from my junkyard pal’s locker (I could never remember my own locker’s combination, so I stashed it in my friend Scott’s locker), and my classmates notice some sort of commotion in the street outside
It seems that T-Mobile will be refreshing their tariff line-up in February, looking to offer consumers ‘ultra flexibility’ with ‘great consumer offers’, which all sounds great until you notice that one of these ‘great consumer offers’ is the removal of all 12 month contract options! If the rumour is true, February will see the discontinuation of all Flext and Combi price plans, which will be replaced with a new range of pay monthly and SIM only deals. These tariffs will allow customers to choose from ‘flexible’ boosters of unlimited texts, landline calls, internet and roaming boosters, to build a price plan that offers more of what users need. Given the speed with which mobile technology develops these days, the loss of a 12 month contract option is a real blow, but there may be a light shining in the gloom of 36 month contract deals, in the shape of new telecoms reforms agreed by the EU back in December
Candy-ass vice-principal calls the bomb squad over an 11-year-old’s science project, recommends counselling for the student
A San Diego school vice-principal saw an 11-year-old’s home science project (a motion detector made out of an empty Gatorade bottle and some electronics), decided it was a bomb, wet himself, put the school on lockdown, had the bomb-squad come out to destroy X-ray the student’s invention and search his parents’ home, and then magnanimously decided not to discipline the kid (though he did recommend that the child and his parents get counselling to help them overcome their anti-social science behavior). When police and the Metro Arson Strike Team responded, they also found electrical components in the student’s backpack, Luque said
