MSI Wind U160 gets video unboxing/hands-on: quality improved
We had a brief play with MSI’s new Wind U160 netbook back at CES 2010 , and came away uncertain about what felt like more than a little flex in the keyboard. Fingers-crossed that hasn’t panned out to the latest models, and the people to ask are over at NewGadgets.de; they’ve picked up a U160 and have promptly shot a video hands-on . Video unboxing/hands-on after the cut Best news is, this particular U160 – despite still being pre-production – is apparently higher quality than what they were showing off at CES. It’s certainly possible that things could get tightened up even more by the time the netbook launches properly this March. JooJoo tablet shipping this month, full Flash support and app store at launch
The iPad may have taken the media by storm, but the JooJoo , formerly known as the CrunchPad, is back, and hot on Apple’s heels. The JooJoo’s starting off full production, that’s right and maker Fusion Garage has announced that the product is set to start shipping this month. Fusion Garage CEO Chandra revealed that they’ve teamed up with Malaysia’s largest OEM, CSL Group, to cover the tablet manufacturing costs; in return CSL will get a slice of the revenue pie. And read this, it’s confirmed that the tablet will feature full Flash support at launch, and even HD Flash content once Flash 10.1 is released. The other thing? A web app store is in the works, Chandra claiming “We have a bigger ‘app store’ than Apple because we have the full Internet,”. Apparently JooJoo means along the lines of “magical” in African – which is how Steve Jobs exactly described the iPad. And they cost the same at $499 each. The JooJoo may have a larger 12-inch screen compared to the iPad’s 9.7-incher, but who knows what Apple may concoct up – something larger, and even more “magical”? MSI Wind modded with sliding keyboard and touchscreen
The original MSI Wind is so two years ago, but an Insanely Wind forum member with the handle of ac0ff33 figured out a way to make it so two years from now. Taking a cue from slider phones, the modder has managed to flip the Wind’s 10.1-inch display around, fit it on top of the keyboard, and add a resistive touchscreen. He appears to still be working on getting it to slide up to reveal the keys, but from the comments in the forum he’s got a pretty solid plan to make it all happen. And if all that isn’t good enough, he’s also added a plastic power button next to the screen, along with a key for choosing either Win 7 or OSX when booting. We’re looking forward to seeing how this project comes along, but in the meantime check out the two videos below of the touchscreen performance in both Win 7 and OSX.

ARM CEO says netbooks could eventually grab 90 percent of PC market
Think netbooks are on their way out? Not according to ARM CEO Warren East , who said in a recent interview with PC Pro that while netbooks now only represent 10% or so of the PC market, he believes that “over the next several years that could completely change around and that could be 90% of the PC market.” Obviously, he also thinks that would be a huge boon to ARM, and notes that while the main CPU in most netbooks may not be an ARM processor, there are probably at least two or three ARM chips of some sort in each netbook sold. In fairness, we assume that East means netbooks will evolve significantly from their present state over those next several years — but, still, ninety percent

ARM CEO predicts netbooks 90% of PC market in coming years
If you’re the figurehead for a company then you have to be pretty confident about your products, but even with that in mind ARM chief executive Warren East is aiming high . The outspoken CEO reckons ARM processors will take a big chunk out of the netbook market, a market which he predicts will eventually come to represent 90-percent of the PC industry. In fact the one thing holding ARM chips back, East reckons, is the lack of Windows support for them. “What’s holding it back is people’s love of the Microsoft operating system and that fact that it’s familiar and so on. But actually the trajectory of progress in the Linux world is very, very impressive.

Open-PC is the nettop for those who won’t be constrained by you and your corporate ways
Nettops come in all sorts of shapes, from Wii would-bes to keyboard come-alongs , but they’re all small, and most are running some variant of Windows. Not the Open-PC. It isn’t particularly svelte (345 x 425 x 100mm) and it is entirely free of commercial software, with a KDE core neatly wrapped in a collection of free software. It was designed by the community, specifications and even price determined by a set of surveys, and by the end of the month it will be available to those who said they wanted it — meaning it’s put up or shut up time, Linux fans. Price is €359 (including a $10 donation to the KDE project), a bit steep for a machine rocking an Atom N330 processor, 3GB of RAM, and a 160GB hard drive, but then again you can’t put a price on stickin’ it to the man

Walmart & Best Buy Duck Out Of Used Games Market
Image courtesy of CinemaBlend Last spring Walmart and Best Buy made big news by announcing that they were entering the used game exchange business via a kiosk system. There were plenty of articles about what it meant for places like Gamestop and on-line game trading sites like Goozex. In the end, none of the hand-wringing and teeth-gnashing mattered much, as both companies have now stepped back out of the market, according to a report at MTV’s Multiplayer blog .

Firefox fires up on Android
It’s not quite ready for an alpha release, but it’s nice to know that development of Firefox on Android has progressed to the stage where they’ve actually got a screenshot. [via AndroidCentral ] You’ll note that this is the full Firefox interface, and not the Fennec/Firefox Mobile UI; we’re testing with the full interface because it’s significantly more complex than the mobile UI and stresses Gecko much more. So, if the full UI works, then Fennec should work fine as well. Given the interest in Android on netbook and tablet devices, an updated version of the full Firefox UI might find a home on some of these.

The Oberon Design Kindle DX Cover Review
Not long after Julie Strietelmeier and I reviewed their Kindle & Kindle2 covers , Oberon Design announced that they would be releasing a Kindle DX version . I found this news particularly welcome, because shortly after we completed the review I purchased the DX. Of course, moving to a larger Kindle meant that the case I loved would definitely no longer work, and for the longest time my DX went case-less, wearing only a Decal Girl skin . It was several months before I had the chance to review one of Oberon Design’s new DX covers, but when the opportunity came I was eager. … [ visit site to read more ] Related posts: The Oberon Design Kindle 2 Case Review Kindle Case – Another Option Review: JAVOedge Fiber Cases for the Amazon Kindle 2 Tags: Amazon Kindle Gear , Reviews Related posts Blue Plate Special: Words With Friends Free For iPhone/Touch (6) Review: Pat Metheny – Orchestrion (Jazz CD, 2010) (3) The Netbook Gamer: Neverwinter Nights (2002, RPG) (4) Etre Touchy Gloves Review (3) Review: Customized ZAGGskins for Mobile Devices (2)
