Nokia Booklet 3G First Impression

Nokia, the Finish company released it’s first netbook computer known as the Booklet 3G. Two weeks back I had the opportunity to trial this master piece. It came with Microsoft Windows 7 Starter pre-installed. Speaking about the hardware configuration, it sports a Intel Atom Z530 1.6 GHz processor with 120GB hard drive along with just 1GB of DDR2 RAM.

ASUS Eee PC 1218 said to be Ion-based, more laptops coming May 13th

We’d already gotten a good look at ASUS’ forthcoming Eee PC 1218 courtesy of the Red Dot design awards, and DigiTimes is now reporting one of its key details: that it will indeed be Ion-based (we’d presume Ion 2, but that still remains unclear). What’s more, the site has also offered some more confirmation of ASUS’ Eee PC 1015 / 1215, and says that ASUS will also be launching some new laptops on May 13th, including some bamboo-covered models and some “multimedia-enhanced models.” In other ASUS news, the site also has a few choice quotes from the always talkative ASUS CEO Jerry Shen , who repeated his assertion that netbooks will continue to outsell tablets, and further went on to get specific and say that ASUS expects to sell between seven and eight million Eee PCs in 2010, which would bring its global netbook market share to 20%. [Thanks, Sal] ASUS Eee PC 1218 said to be Ion-based, more laptops coming May 13th originally appeared on Engadget on Tue, 04 May 2010 14:09:00 EST

Intel demo Light Peak laptop; production by end of 2010

Intel have been showing off their Light Peak technology again, demonstrating the 10Gbit/sec connection as integrated into a new laptop by pumping out two simultaneous HD streams to a nearby HDTV.  The system used a specially adapter USB cable which paired the regular electrical wires with optical cabling, while the screen itself required a separate decoding box since it lacked the necessary Light Peak port.

Apple iPad Reaches ‘One Million Sold’ Twice as Fast as iPhone

Apple announced on Monday that it has sold over one million iPad devices over the internet and in its retail outlets, following the Friday release of the 3G version of the device, which can connect to the internet via cellular data networks in addition to WiFi. Naysayers who jokingly derided the device as a large iPhone with no phone function have been proven wrong about people not wanting exactly that — a testament to the powerful allure of these devices, which sit in a new category of computing somewhere between the smartphone and the netbook. “One million iPads in 28 days — that’s less than half of the 74 days it took to achieve this milestone with iPhone,” said Apple CEO Steve Jobs. “Demand continues to exceed supply,” he claimed, “and we’re working hard to get this magical product into the hands of even more customers.” This 28-day figure doesn’t seem quite as impressive if you correlate the 3G iPad to the iPhone, and the WiFi-only iPad to the WiFi-only iPod Touch, because the iPhone and iPod Touch reached the combined one million mark about as fast as the iPads did. In addition, Apple said it shipped 500,000 units of the WiFi-only iPad within the first week, so sales have slowed since then, relatively speaking, even with Friday’s introduction of the 3G model.

MeeGo-based LG GW990 won’t be commercially available

First showcased by LG in January this year, the LG GW990 will apparently not hit the market, ever. LG initially said that the GW990 would be launched in the second half of 2010. When the handset was unveiled, it had Moblin on it, and it was LG’s first device to be powered by Intel’s Moorestown processor. Since Moblin was merged with Maemo in February to become MeeGo , the GW900 should have made the transition too, and feature MeeGo at launch. However, it looks like LG thinks that further developing the GW990 is not a good idea, as it has just told Phone Arena that the device was merely a concept and it won’t be available for purchase.

Google’s Android Tablet Most Likely Be Made by HTC

Recently The New York Times reported that Google CEO Eric Schmidt confirmed the rumors that the company’s tablet will run Android OS. It would be worth noting that unlike Apple’s iPhone operating system and Palm’s WebOS, Android is an open source. The Silicon Valley tech giant has also been developing another operating system that would be installed on low-powered netbooks and tablets – Chrome OS , which represents a browser-based operating system that Google mentioned in November. It is likely that the two operating systems from Google might confuse some consumers. The new tablet that will run Android is expected to be manufactured by HTC , a Taiwanese company that a while ago launched together with Google the Nexus One smartphone and is considered to be Google’s most trustworthy Android partner.

Why KIN and Windows Phone 7 Can Succeed – Getting User Experiences

It’s fortunate that we all have the ability as humans to grow, mature and learn from our mistakes and the mistakes of others. We wouldn’t be where we are today without the ability to adapt and learn. This fundamental principle not only applies to “macro” topics like culture; it applies to the little things as well.

3UK In Car MiFi

3UK have launched the in car MiFi unit in Birmingham at the #GadgetShowLive event. I have previously reviewed the 3UK MiFi and can vouch for it to be a very good device. It’s very easy to setup, the 3UK 3G connection was quick and stable and the overall I only have positives from my experience. The 3UK in car MiFi is designed so passengers can have access to a fast 3G signal via any WiFi enabled device whether that is their iPod Touch, Netbook, or iPad – all without a single wire needed. Boring journeys will be no more, nor will there be the usual kids screaming and shouting “Are We There Yet” because they’d obviously be too busy

What’s Nokia and Newegg Up To?

Happy Easter, from Nokia & Newegg to you. A little something arrived in my mailbox yesterday…(updated!) A large Cadbury “crunchie” Easter egg, courtesy of the fine folks over at Womworld . That was mysterious in itself, but included in the box was a message that read “We just wanted to let you know of a new exciting project between Nokia & Newegg.com…keep your eyes peeled for more information!” Interesting. The million dollar question is, of course, just what is this new project/partnership? Nokia makes cell phones and accessories, and Newegg is one of the Web’s favorite retailers (it’s definitely one of mine, next to Amazon).
