Will Symbian^3 be the Dream OS for Smart Phones?
Like Nokia, all Symbian and Nokia fans are eagerly waiting to get their hands on N8 and other upcoming devices, which will be running on Symbian^3 OS. Nokia is putting forward Symbian^3 as the OS for next generation smart phones, which the company will start churning out from this year, most probably

AirMicro A1 microscope syncs wirelessly with the iPad
This is the AirMicro A1 microscope, which is a microscope designed to sync to the iPad. It is from Scalar Corporation, a Japanese company that hopes to sell 50,000 of these units. I’m guessing that the market would be schools if they are going for those types of numbers.

Memory Lane, Part 1
If I had to guess, I suggest that very few readers of this blog would expect to come across a low quality image of an old Psion Series 5mx at the top of an article. Of course, we should never forget that Symbian, at the heart of so many modern Nokia devices, has its roots in the EPOC operating system running on the Psion palmtop devices, and that’s where this article begins.

Ford, GM ‘turn’ to Google Maps
(Image courtesy Google) Detroit automakers Ford and GM both announced this week the coming availability of turn-by-turn directions in their vehicles courtesy of Google Maps. Ford will offer this convenience via SYNC technology (using the customers mobile phone) and GMs will arrive a la OnStar. Unfortunately this means the technology is only good so long as a cell signal remains. For those who find themselves EXTREMELY lost, I suggest making sure you bring along a boy scout or homing pigeon before leaving the connected realm. For me, I will continue to trust the latest satellite-based GPS navigation technology offered in most of the new vehicles and handheld devices on the market today

Motorola i296 widens Boost Mobile’s iDEN portfolio
Before launching the Android-based Motorola i1 (on June 20), Boost Mobile has decided to offer its customers a more basic iDEN phone, namely the Motorola i296 . Built to US military-standard 810F requirements for dust, vibration and shock resistance, the Motorola i296 is presented as “the ideal phone for fun in the sun.” The candybar costs only $59.99, and, for that kind of money, it doesn’t look bad at all. It features Nationwide Walkie-Talkie capability, GPS, Web browser, voice-activated dialing, SMS, MMS, Bluetooth, and it does not have a photo camera

Well according to an article over on Think Digit by Harmanpreet Singh, the new iPhone 4 handset will see launch in India in September. Furthermore according to the article, after speaking with a telecom giant, they were told not to expect subsidised, contract bound handsets in India “anytime soon,” the reason being is “it takes 20 rupees to get a handset unlocked in India.” Therefore it appears that the iPhone 4 won’t be subsidised when it sees release in India in September, and thus the article states that the expected price for the Indian iPhone 4 will be in the range of Rs. 35,000 to Rs

2010 Lexus GS450h Delivers ‘Warm Fuzzies’
All photos courtesy Lexus Lexus (via parent company Toyota) has been providing the auto industry with production model hybrid vehicles longer than most and with greater ferocity, and, under most circumstances, we do not associate hybrid vehicles being much more than “eco-friendly” or “miserly” – we certainly keep from allowing our imaginations wander anywhere near “sporty.” That all changed with the introduction of the Lexus GS450h luxury hybrid sport sedan. This was the first real hybrid vehicle that put all of that great and clean power to the rear tires where driving enthusiasts agree it belongs. Sure, there have been semi-all-wheel-drive SUVs from Toyota and Lexus but never rear-drive only prior to the GS model hybrid

T-Mobile’s Samsung Gravity T T669 and Samsung Smile T359 in live photos
Expected to be released by T-Mobile USA on June 23, Samsung Gravity T T669 and Samsung Smile T359 have appeared in a few live photos that let us (and you) take a better look at them. The Gravity T is a touchscreen phone with a horizontal-sliding QWERTY keyboard, 3G, TouchWiz UI, Dolphin browser, and 2MP photo camera. The Smile has a QWERTY keyboard, too (but a vertical one), also coming with 3G, web browser, and a 1.3MP camera. These seem to be good phones for heavy texters, but if you’re looking for something truly high-end, don’t forget that T-Mobile will launch the Samsung Galaxy S soon – the latest rumors point out to a July 21 release

Chevy and OnStar to train first responders on Volt
Photos courtesy GM As a former firefighter/paramedic, I am glad to see that automakers are providing training for first responders before a new type vehicle hits the streets and forces them to “learn from experience.” Training and preparation is key to successful incident response and reaction and Chevrolet is teaming up with OnStar to prepare emergency personnel for the arrival of Volt. When hybrids first hit the mass market about a decade ago, I grabbed a Toyota Prius and a Honda Insight from the press fleets and visited several area fire departments here in north Texas to give emergency personnel the opportunity to see the vehicles up close and learn the facts surrounding how to respond to emergencies involving these vehicles. I believe that everyone can benefit from a bit of knowledge concerning the operational characteristics of the coming wave of electric vehicles, as well as current hybrids that are capable of operating in electric-only mode.

Bell, Telus confirm iPhone 4 launch “in the coming weeks”
As expected, following Rogers’ announcement, both Telus and Bell have disclosed that they too will be releasing the iPhone 4 in Canada “ in the coming weeks. ” Similar to Rogers , they didn’t divulge any info on its exact launch date locally, but we know that this will be happening sometime in July. As far as pricing goes, no luck here either, but given at how the pricing scheme in Canada is somewhat similar to the US, we’re assuming that the iPhone 4 will just take over the price point of the current iPhone 3G S line with the latter getting a significant price cut to clear out inventory the soonest time possible. The iPhone 4 will most likely be available on Fido and Virgin Mobile Canada as well considering that they too have an iPhone as part of their line-up.

Nokia N8 is real so the Nokia N98 could be too
It was only the other day when Nokia fanatics out there sighed a sigh of relief as the Finnish manufacturer announced their first 12 megapixel camera which had been a flurry of rumours until then. The Nokia N8 which we have reported on previously here , is a top quality Smartphone running Symbian and its capable of recording HD video and has a HDMI output a pretty cool device.

Sneak Peak: CardStar for BlackBerry and Android
The CardStar team was kind enough to give us a chance to test drive their beta versions of CardStar for Android and BlackBerry. CardStar’s going full throttle from announcing some brand new services at CTIA , including expanding to bring more businesses (local and large chains) to consumers via their unique customer loyalty mobile application. If you are an iPhone or iPod touch owner, you may already be familiar with their popular application that allows you to put all those cards and key fob barcodes right on your smartphone. All in one nice and easy place that will keep you fumbling through your wallet or purse (and keep that keyring a bit more tidy as well). As CardStar expands, it only makes sense to hit two more popular platforms: Android and BlackBerry. Let’s take a quick look at both versions to see if you should add the application to your smartphone.

Bell MiFi units remotely deactivated as recall takes place
We were a bit taken back the other day when trying to locate the Novatel MiFi 2372 on Bell’s website to no avail, and now we know why — it’s been recalled. According to Bell, the MiFi’s battery is prone to swelling and, not surprisingly, this poses not only a safety risk but may also “[cause] the device to malfunction.” Bell is planning to get MiFi’s back in the hands of its customers just as soon as they can get them replaced by Novatel, but in the meantime every affected customer will be sent a U998 Turbo Stick to tide them over. Just in case you’re the type to throw caution to the wind and want to keep using your MiFi until the replacements are shipped out (which just so happens to be 6 to 8 weeks away), Bell has taken the precaution of remotely deactivating your kit
