Nokia breaks silence: says Symbian and Maemo both will stay as its OS
The rumors of Nokia ditching Symbian OS and shaking hands with Maemo in the new N series, has now made Nokia say what it has long kept silence on. The Maemo team has officially made an announcement that Nokia is signing a contract with them according to which from 2012 Nokia will just feature the Maemo OS on its devices, starting from the N-series lineup. Nokia although too frustrated with all the fuss, has stated that the decision is totally premature and Nokia considers Symbian OS as a more powered feature for Smartphone’s while keeping Maemo restricted to those high-end devices. Still now not clear as to what the real say is, but just now enjoy the Maemo OS and have a close look with the N900 preview posted already. Monster and Dr. Dre Club Beats Launches at Best Buy
Yesterday we got a chance to check out the launch of the Club Beats section at the brand spanking new Best Buy in Union Square (which took over Circuit City’s old digs – may it rest in peace). Best Buy has teamed up with Monster and Beats by Dr. Dre to be one of the first big box retailers to offer not just its typical electronic and technological wares but also a source for hard core DJ’s to come and spin some tunes, mix tracks, and test out DJ equipment such as turntables, headphones, and software. I watched as some people were getting down with the DJ equipment that was on display and folks, if I dared to have made a comment about DJ Hero they would have probably sneered at me. This area is for the true music enthusiasts as well as those whose career is music

People using a Treo 680 or Centro on various networks (including T-Mobile and O2 in the UK) have recently reported an increasing amount of “dropped calls”, etc. As this has happened somewhat frequently, a network “upgrade” was a likely culprit. A T-Mobile manager has posted the following, somewhat long-winded explanation of the issue: Ok, I now understand the problem. I spoke with an RF Engineer about it

Palm Pixi reviewed by Engadget
Like or loathe their redesign, but Engadget did a great job on getting good reviews on the road in the past. Their latest victim is the Pixi – can it stack up? Most important of all, it looks like Palm finally managed to get its keyboards back to the quality level seen on earlier Treos: … Admittedly, we weren’t expecting fireworks when we first laid eyes on this tiny QWERTY, but the experience of using it day to day has been nothing short of a revelation. You would think that the tight spacing and tiny keys would make typing a difficult task, but Palm has cleverly given the Pixi keyboard snappy tactile feedback and a substantial height boost, making tapping away a serious pleasure … Their final verdict stated that the Pixi – while not a bad device on its own – has issues especially with its larger (and similarly-priced) predecessor: … But the fact is that these phones are closely matched in both features and design — save for those items we just mentioned — and the Pre doesn’t lose out in a single category (unless you consider “smallest” to be a major factor, and even then you don’t have a lot ground to stand on).

No Go for Yahoo Go in 2010
Yahoo is planning to bid farewell to its Yahoo Go mobile application in early 2010. For three years, Yahoo Go has served as Yahoo’s all-in-one native app for our favorite Yahoo services on Windows Mobile, BlackBerry, and Symbian phones. Famous for its simple and efficient access to the broad range of mobile offerings like search, messaging, news, etc., it seems Yahoo is letting go of Go in order to direct more energy and resources to the development of its mobile web efforts. “In the past 18 months, browser quality has been increasing at an accelerated rate,” Yahoo’s global head of mobile product marketing Adam Taggart says. “We’ve doubled down on our mobile web strategy.” This week, Yahoo Go users will be notified by email of the company’s decision

Carriers Rushing To Invest In Internal Mobile Marketing Platforms & App Stores
With the likes of Apple and Google making huge headway in the areas of mobile marketing and app distribution via app stores, wireless carriers have been forced to play catch up. New research suggests carriers are planning to invest heavily in “service delivery platform software and services,” or in other words internal means for self-serve mobile marketing and app distribution. Market research firm Infonetics released its latest “2009 Service Delivery Platform Software and Services” report that indicates mobile marketing and app store development are the two leading drivers behind carrier’s renewed interest in internal “Service Delivery Platforms,” due in large part to the revenue potential both concepts provide

Samsung Bada handset is to be declared first half of 2010
We’re still not fully convinced why Samsung thinks the requirement to introduce its own mobile phone operating system while until now cranking out Windows and Android Mobile devices, however it seems akin to matter is going to its full extent ahead: a talking head of Samsung told CNET Asia at present that a Bada mobile phone would reach you in the first six months of 2010. Certainly, that gives impression like a big time off, but in fact it’s only six months subsequent to the big Bada SDK divulge in December, consequently we’ll need to see if that’s adequate time for developers in Samsung to sort out things and launch any apps.

Where the heck is the N900?
The N900: Now you see it, now you don’t I’ve found myself asking this question many, many times in the past 2 months. But according to an official Nokia press release today, the N900 is “now on sale in the United States.” That’s a pretty deceptive statement, however. Try as I might, I could not locate a single N900 anywhere in the United States. Amazon, Buy.com, and Dell are still taking preorders for the device, yet haven’t updated the open availability, nor are customers getting any reliable answers through customer service.
