Acer Liquid Launched in China
Acer today launched the Acer Liquid , an Android-powered smartphone running on Qualcomm’s 1 GHz Snapdragon processor, in Beijing, China. Unlike Motorola Droid that runs on Android 2.0, the Acer Liquid still runs on stable Android 1.6, which is kind of disappointing as the “Liquid” has 1GHz processing power and Acer failed to utilize it. The Acer Liquid doesn’t have any remodeled sexy User Interface; it just has a regular Android interface. Acer seem to think that Google’s battery management technology is sub par, and they replace the battery management with their own technology, which they said will provide longer battery life to this Android handset. The Acer Liquid will be launched in the first quarter of 2010 in China.

Google is feeling extra generous this year when it comes to appreciating the small businesses looking to do big business this holiday season. As a result, Google has announced that they are enabling small businesses and other local retailers to display coupons for in-store use on mobile devices of Google-searching users. Although Google has not previously given the small business community exceptional exposure to its mobile coupon platform and prowess, Google seems poised to make up for lost time with this latest endeavor. Essentially, small business owners utilizing Google Local Business Center can quickly create and upload their mobile coupon offers.

AdMob Mobile Metrics Report: Android & RIM
AdMob’s latest Mobile Metrics Report focused on taking a look inside each operating system to analyze the distribution of requests coming from different handsets, instead of comparing smartphones platforms against each other as in previous reports. The report focused primarily on devices from RIM and devices running Android to determine the most popular handsets running each OS, in terms of mobile ad-requests. Since we all know the iPhone dominates AdMob’s mobile ad-network, it’s interesting to see how Blackberry and Android-based phones stack up in the realm of mobile marketing. In terms of the distribution of traffic from RIM devices, the 8300 Curve series and 8100 Pearl series still make up the majority of traffic. However newer devices such as the Tour and updated versions of the Curve (8900 and 8520) are generating an increasing percentage of RIM requests. The Flip (8220 and 8230), launched over a year ago, has not gained much traction and generated less than 2% of RIM traffic in October 2009. The first generation Storm generated 12% of requests and has seen its percentage share stay the same over the last year. What’s more interesting is data derived from Android-based ad-requests.

Apple Engages in AT&T, Verizon Ad War
Although it may seem as though Apple is already involved in the lingering ad wars between Verizon and AT&T, only last night did Apple formally enter the vicious marketing melee. The move comes by Apple after months of having its name along with its iPhone constantly alluded to by the warring factions in their incessant ad attacks. On Monday evening, Apple unleashed two retaliatory iPhone TV ads that effectively aim to provide some damage control in response to Verizon’s “there’s a map for that” campaign. The Apple ads depict the iPhone’s ability to browse the Web and manage phone calls simultaneously, something that isn’t possible over Verizon’s CDMA network

Google Maps Navigation now on Android 1.6
Living in the UK, it is easy to look over at our American cousins and sympathise with them, in regards to the superiority of the UK (and European) mobile markets. But once in a while they get some decent apps launched first that, quite frankly, they don’t deserve! (Alright, I’ll admit it, I’m just jealous) A while ago we brought you news of an exciting update to Google Maps for Android , that added voice navigation capabilities to this excellent utility, an update that was for the US market only initially and only available on Android OS 2.0 Well, it seems that this has now been expanded, now being available for Android 1.6, otherwise known as Donut. Whilst this too is still for owners of Android devices in the US, it does mean that when this update is made available to the UK and Europe, it will be available to a much wider audience, given the still rare presence of a high number of Android 2.0 devices

China Telecom plans to carry Palm handsets
Whether we like it or not: China is a huge market. Handset vendors can live off the Japanese market alone – and China is significantly bigger. However, getting in is not easy – the handset tastes are peculiar, and the Chinese market is known for its price sensitivity. Palm is now rumored to try and break into the market. A Reuters report goes as following: … HONG KONG, Nov 23 (Reuters) – China Telecom (0728.HK) aims to sell BlackBerry handsets and Palm (PALM.O) smartphones in China by early next year, as it tries to gain share from its two larger mobile telecom rivals, a source familiar with the situation said on Monday

Survey Finds Users Still Struggle To Access Certain Mobile Content
A new survey published by Xiam Technologies indicates that users are still having difficulty accessing certain types of mobile content, and as such, it’s remaining a barrier to the mobile Web for most consumers. According to the survey, some 80 percent of users in the US and UK report some difficulty or problem when trying to access mobile content. Time spent searching/downloading was the primary reason cited, followed by device/interface issues. Judging by user’s responses, the means to access mobile content seems to remain the number one barrier

MMA Revises Mobile Marketing Definition
The Mobile Marketing Association has officially released a new definition of the term “mobile marketing.” According to the MMA, mobile marketing is described as: “A set of practices that enables organizations to communicate and engage with their audience in an interactive and relevant manner through any mobile device or network.” While easy to spot on the surface, there’s more to mobile marketing than digital coupons and the incessant ad campaigns that target our handsets. During the Mobile Marketing Forum in Los Angeles, the MMA delved deeper into the existence, function, and, yes, the definition of mobile marketing – although the organization’s language has proven confusing to some, particularly when it came to discussing the “two parts of its taxonomy.” The “set of practices” includes “activities, institutions, processes, industry players, standards, advertising and media, direct response, promotions, relationship management, CRM, customer services, loyalty, social marketing, and all the many faces and facets of marketing.” To “engage” means to “start relationships, acquire, generate activity, stimulate social interaction with organization and community members, (and) be present at time of consumers expressed need.” Furthermore, engagement can be initiated by the consumer (”Pull” in form of a click or response) or by the marketer (”Push”).

Palm Pre: replacement device leads to data loss
Don’t ask me why, but it looks like our friends at Palm’s have a special relationship with all things data loss. After the Tungsten T3 which fried SD cards, we now get to enjoy the blessings of the cloud: data loss on device replacement. Engadget reports the following: …some users have been losing their Palm Profile backup, or a large majority of it, once they pair up their new device. The big issue is that since this problem is rather sporadic, Palm doesn’t seem to have a good way to deal with it yet — the trend in the forums seems to be a complaint sent to Palm, followed up by word of an inability to restore data from Palm a few weeks later.
