Review: iMojito, a pleather wallet and pouch combo for the iPhone 3GS
The iMojito is an iPhone pouch with three extra slots for important cards or cash — you know, the things you’re probably used to keeping in a wallet. It’s a product that makes a lot of sense, and I opted to take a look at one because I thought that using one for a little while might open me up to another way of carrying my gear around.

Minor Argh: My App Store isn’t updating properly
What the heck is wrong with my App Store lately? For the past six days it’s been telling me to update bloody Rock Band (sorry RB, I don’t mean to take this out on you!) to the latest version when, in fact, I’ve been playing the latest version since the App Store told me about it last week. I’ve updated the game a good three or four times over the Mac and on the iPhone, and it’s proved to be a waste of time and bandwidth.

Featured iPhone Theme: Tenuitas by iAndrew
This isn’t an iPhone theme in the usual sense, but it does do a heck of a job of re-touching the lock screen portion of your jailbroken iPhone. All you have to do is transfer the Tenuitas theme into your themes folder (mini tutorial here ), apply the theme in Winterboard, and you’re good to go. Tenuitas gives the lock screen a much cleaner appearance and rids it of the “slide to unlock” text. The theme is “tap to unlock” by default”, but you can choose from four other unlock methods as long as you keep them loaded above the main “Tenuitas” theme within Winterboard (see screenshots after jump for an example)

Google’s AdMob Acquisition Eyed By FTC
The Federal Trade Commission has set its sights set on Google. According to the Wall Street Journal this week, the FTC is looking into Google’s proposed $750 million acquisition of mobile advertising network AdMob. Although many expected the mega-deal to provoke at least some attention from the FTC it seems unlikely at this time that any steps or actions will be taken to preclude the acquisition from actually taking place. No names affiliated with either Google or the FTC were directly sourced in the article to provide inside details. According to a representative for Google, the “investigation” is presented as routine protocol.

Palm sued over webOS PDF technology
Palm’s webOS is based heavily on all kinds of open-source technology: in fact, the Pre even ships with a PDF file detailing the various projects involved and their licenses. Unfortunately, it looks like the boys in Orange forgot about one crucial GPL-licensed bit of technology: the very PDF rendering engine which is used for displaying the aforementioned file (among others). Yahoo Finance reports the following: … San Rafael-based Artifex Software Inc. said Friday it filed a suit in the U.S. District Court for northern California because Palm had integrated its muPDF program into Palm Pre devices since their launch in June.

Xbox 360 Lips #1 Hits Hands-on
When I walked into the Xbox 360 Lips #1 Hits event, I knew it was my kind of party. Located in a basement karaoke bar hidden away on a NYC side street, it was all about a Chinese food buffet, blaring music, and amateur karaoke stars singing along to new favorites and old standards. At a normal karaoke bar, you choose some mainstream song and sing along with the bootleg instrumental version of it. With Xbox 360 Lips, it’s a totally different experience. Lips plays the real version of your favorite songs with the main singer’s voice turned down but still audible

Google Starts Pushing Local QR-Codes For Business Listings, Will It Pay Off?
Google has begun a massive mobile marketing campaign surrounding Place Pages, the small pages that display info for local businesses on Google Maps. What’s interesting is that the centerpiece for the campaign is the use of QR-Codes. Google is starting things off by sending QR-code decals to some 190,000 local businesses across the US. Google determined the most searched for and most clicked local Place Pages for the initial run, though a full release is imminent

Quick Thoughts: is Apple becoming more tolerant in approving apps?
About a week ago an Italian app named Future Mail was approved , even though it makes use of private APIs. As Steve Jobs said, the use of private APIs is no longer accepted due to some problems users have had (and could have in he future). This is the email from apple explaining the situation: During our review of your application we found it is using a private API, which is in violation of the iPhone Developer Program License Agreement section 3.3.1; “3.3.1 Applications may only use Documented APIs in the manner prescribed by Apple and must not use or call any private APIs.” While your application has not been rejected, it would be appropriate to resolve this issue in your next update. Another similar case appeared this December: Knocking was approved by Apple when Steve Jobs himself intervened.
