The Mobile Kings Will Lose Their Reign In 2010
The following is a guest column from Mark Jaffe, blogger for Mobile Mandala … I was reminded of an Italian proverb after my son beat me in yet another game of chess this past winter break “Once the game is over, the King and the pawn go in the same box”. It is a humbling thought for anyone or any entity with power. Power truly coexists with all the other forces of the political and economic world, despite the illusion of invincibility.

Nokia 5235 Comes with Music Review
In the grand scheme of things, the Nokia Comes With Music service can hardly be called a success. It’s a year or so since the service launched, and with little more than 100,000 subscribers worldwide, it has to be seen as a disappointment. At first glance, it would seem that the CWM service is something that any music lover would go for, with unlimited music downloads for 12 months, and at the end of that period, whilst you cannot download anymore tracks, anything you have already grabbed is yours to keep, forever

Andrea Plant Air Purifier is Better than Febreeze
Looking for a more natural way to purify the air and add a bit of green to your home? Andrea is a plant, but so much more than that and was a result of a collaboration between designer Mathieu Lehanneur and Harvard professor David Edwards. It is an environmental purifier that uses the air-cleansing powers of plants and has a modular, bubble topped sci-fi look. The apparatus enhances the plant’s ability to remove toxic gases of indoor air and pump out clean oxygen

God Mode: A Windows 7 Secret
I caught a neat tip today over at jkontherun where James talked about how to enable the super secret Windows 7 God Mode. God Mode is a simple folder that brings all aspects of Windows 7 control in a single place. It collects all of the Control Panel functions, interface customization, accessibility options, just about every aspect of controlling Windows 7 into a single place. God Mode is easy to set up too, just do this: Create a new folder anywhere

CES 2010: Lenovo Reinvents the ThinkPad X100e With New Design and Keyboard
The ThinkPad X100e is one of many laptops that Lenovo will be introducing in 2010 that has taken a completely new design direction. This model doesn’t constrain to the typical design elements of past Lenovo ThinkPads from years gone by, instead the X100e sports a radical new keyboard with chicklet keys, along with the multitouch touchpad. But none of these changes will hinder the overall quality we have come to expect from the durable and reliable ThinkPad laptops we have come to know and love.

Review: Impulse Soccer for the iPhone
Impulse Soccer exemplifies the pick-up-and-play genre of App Store games to a tee. The game has only two modes (single or multi-player) and six different levels. It’s a turn-based soccer game that provides a lot of fun. It’s not a perfect game by any means. Its strengths and weaknesses intertwine in that the game is simple and easy to play that some players may get bored after unlocking all of the levels. Still, this shouldn’t discourage you from checking out this very attractive game.

Where am I? Use LocateMe!
Sometimes it’s the “little things” that make life a little more enjoyable. It doesn’t have to be expensive, it just has to do a task and enhance an experience. Such is the case with a little program I ran across called LocateMe from Applied PDA Software . As I was perusing the apps at the Marketplace with my device, I ran across this neat utility that did one thing; it located my position with Latitude and Longitude. At first it just seemed too simple and I asked “why would I want this” but then as I thought about it, it seemed like a cool application to have. I could use it to find my exact location easily and save it for future reference. I could let others know exactly where I was by email or Text Message or I could save the position for future reference using a mapping application.

Sony Ericsson Hazel Review
The Sony Ericsson Hazel is the second of the recently announced new Greenheart devices, and is scheduled to be the second released, as the Hazel is not due to be released until Q2 2010. The green eco credentials of the Hazel are in line with other previously released Greenheart devices; this includes a low powered charger, minimum packaging and the user manual for the phone is stored on the device as a .pdf file. The handset itself is produced largely from recycled material, plus the phone is free from hazardous chemicals, and uses waterborne paint, which has less volatile organic compound than is found in traditional solvent based paints. The design of the Hazel is smooth with a curved effect, which gives the result of the phone curving round from earpiece to microphone to fit the contours of your face when the phone is opened. Measuring in at 102 x 49 x 16mm, the Hazel weighs 120g, which is the upper range of an acceptable weight for a modern mobile device

Apple Avoids Class Action Over iPod Hearing Loss
A federal appeals court rejected claims that Apple is responsible for hearing loss caused by the iPod, reports Reuters. The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals confirmed an earlier ruling that the iPod causes no unreasonable risk of hearing loss. The plaintiffs believed that the ear buds were designed to be placed deep in the ear canal, which could cause hearing loss.

Mophie to offer iPhone credit card reader
Mophie, the popular iPhone and iPod accessory and battery add-on maker, will use CES 2010 as the platform to introduce their iPhone credit card reader and third-party app, marking the accessory manufacturer’s first attempt to break into the lucrative mobile payment systems market. The accessory has been unimaginatively dubbed as the “Credit Card Reader”, where each purchase will be accompanied by a complimentary third party processing application which enables one to turn the iPhone into a functional device that accepts credit payments simply by swiping one’s credit card through a special casing attached that is connected to their handset

2009 – from a Palm head’s point of view
It’s this part of the year yet again: a stupid, boring New Year’s eve party straight ahead, and loads and loads of thoughts rotting in the brain of yours truly. As usual, this is the time for our “New Year’s eve” post series – what has happened in the industry this year? For the boys in Orange, 2009 wasn’t too bad a year. This was not so much due to their own effort, as rather due to a generally stagnant market.

The Corby range of handset from Samsung have proven to very popular since their recent release, with the easy to use touchscreen devices catching the eye with their customisable back covers, which Samsung call Fashion Jackets. B.R. Guest Registers LBS Success
Location based mobile ads have proven a force to be reckoned with in the restaurant industry. And as B.R. Guest’s popular chain of restaurants illustrates with its resounding mobile marketing success, the eatery’s location based mobile ads have driven substantial foot traffic to the establishments. According to the restaurant chain, mobile marketing efforts to drive both awareness and foot traffic to its Vento Trattoria and Wildwood Barbeque restaurants reportedly yielded a 5% response rate or better on most days during the campaign’s run. Mobile advisory firm Mella Media worked in conjunction with B.R.
