Sharp To Release Already Doomed Ebook Reader
This one just leaves me scratching my head. Sharp has announced that they are planning on entering the ebook reader market in a big way with a new product…but which will likely only read an obscure propiratary format only used currently in Japan. The reader is intended for release first in Japan, but Sharp is then planning on bringing it to the US and is in talks with Verizon about it.

Apple: After the Storm
A great deal of news about Apple today. Of course first and foremost the internet is buzzing about today’s earnings announcement, in which Apple breaks all records with a nearly 90 percent increase in revenues from this quarter last year. More than 3 million iPads sold in the quarter, more than 8 million iPhones…the numbers are dazzling. Apple knows that…and will be telling us so every chance it gets. Of course these numbers are not totally unexpected.

Pexagon Offers Personalized iPad Cases with Your Logo
Coveroo is already doing it for the iPhone 4 and other devices, but Pexagon is the first to offer a customized iPad case. For just $24.99 you can order an iPad silicon case with your own logo printed on it. You can also add an extra two lines with 20 characters each, to the design. The case itself is kind of boring and black, but you can choose from several colors for the logo and text – pink, white, green, red, purple, blue and even “glow”.

TouchTec Pen iPhone/iPad Stylus Review
The TouchTec pen is a new product from the creators of the TouchTec gloves that we are super crazy about. The TouchTec Pen is a “Multi-function Capacitive Touch Screen Stylus and Ball Point Pen”. In other words, it’s a pen that also can operate as a iPad/iPhone stylus. There are quite a few iPhone/iPad compatible styluses out there on the market, but what makes the TouchTec Pen unique is that it also doubles as a pen

Racktrap Bra Pocket is Probably the Safest Place to Stash Cash
If you though that the Wine Rack Bra was a silly way to stash alcohol, the Racktrap is almost as silly, but perhaps more useful. The Racktrap is essentially a portable pocket designed to wear in your bra. The pocket holds credit cards, keys, cash, and maybe an iPod Shuffle? And who knows what else! But as silly as the Racktrap might seem, it’s actually ideal for runners and women in marathons

Nokia, RIM Respond To Apple’s Claims
After last week’s “they do it too” from Apple regarding the iPhone 4’s signal problems; Nokia and Research In Motion have responded to Apple’s claim. The Antennagate seems to continue forever. Had Apple resisted the urge to hit back, with childish justifications for what is clearly a hardware design flaw and replaced the faulty units; this would have been water under the bridge by now. Instead, now Nokia and Research In Motion (makers of BlackBerry smartphones) are hitting back hard defending themselves for an unjustified attack from Apple. First was Nokia’s rebuttal, then RIM’s but both have pretty good points to make.

Nokia’s New Concept Phone that Stands Up Itself
Nokia today unearthed an innovative concept phone named Kinetic that could stands up to alert users on incoming calls, emails, and text messages. This cool concept phone was developed by British designer Jeremy Innes-Hopkins. How the Kinetic works is by having an electromagnet built into a curved base that shifts the weight of the phone so that the phone could roll up or roll down when receiving an alert. “It makes receiving a call, text, email or alarm more playful by converting digital information into kinetic movement,” Innes-Hopkins said. “The stand up feature also has potential for video calling, without the need to hold your phone.”

Will you get a WP7 or will you wait for xda to port WP7 to HD2 ?
We have seen a lot about WP7 over the months from the initial launch to the hands on reviews by the select few tech blogs . Granted there are flaws in the OS ( multitasking , copy-paste are the most talked about ) and there are some great features like xbox live integration ( that will never come to other devices like the iPhone or Android ), sharepoint integration , etc. We should see some exclusive 3rd party game titles some time in August

They said it’s only affecting a small number of users, and they also mentioned that if you have any issues with the screen, please contact Motorola tech support or Verizon themselves. Here’s the full statement: “Verizon Wireless and Motorola are aware of a very small number of DROID X units that have experienced a flickering or banding display. Review: Speck PixelSkin for the iPhone 4
The iPhone 4 has an awesome new design, but it’s really fragile. There aren’t many cases for the iPhone 4 at the moment, but a few awesome companies have come out with redesigned cases, such as Speck. The PixelSkin is a soft, silicon case that offers great protection, and has an awesome tiled texture on the back

DROID X shortage?
This isn’t looking too good. First screen issues , and now delays? According to Verizon’s website, all new orders of the DROID X won’t ship until August 3rd. Same thing happened to the DROID Incredible when it launched, so it’s definitely an interesting scenario. I called a few of my local Verizon stores, and most of them were sold out.

Apple 3rd Quarter Earnings Beat Expectations
Apple has announced its 3rd quarter earnings. And, once again, the tech giant beat the street. On Tuesday after the close of trading on Wall Street, the Cupertino-based technology juggernaut blew consensus estimates out of the water (which had previously forecast 3Q earnings of $14.75 billion) with actual earnings totaling $15.74 billion. The company’s Q4 revenue guidance comes in at $18 billion vs.

Will “Checking In” Soon Become Obsolete? Mark Cuban Thinks So…
With LBS startups and the art of “checking in” still evolving as a brand new concept, some are already speculating that an entirely new breed of location-based social networking will replace it, effectively making the concept as we know it all but obsolete. Though that may sound over the top, it’s exactly the opinion of Mark Cuban, who recently posted on his blog about a new company he’s just invested in that’s building the “next generation” of LBS social networking. The idea is centered around facial recognition and real-time video imagery of specific locations, so instead of checking in, the next iteration of LBS apps would already know you’re there. “I just invested in a company that takes video of an area and can tell you exactly how many people are in the capture area at any given time,” said Cuban in his post. ”It’s great for traffic patterns, security, and much more. We are posting cameras in certain environments where anonymity is required, and we don’t and won’t capture faces or anything that could identify an individual. We will simply provide incredibly accurate traffic information and patterns

Brightkite Ups The Ante With “Badge Levels” For Better Loyalty & Rewards Programs
Brightkite has been known to experiment with badges for its location-based social networking service, but besides a partnership with Starbucks, has been dormant on the topic- until now. The startup has introduced levels to its badges, based on a variety of check-ins and other social functions, like uploading photos. For example, if you use Brightkite’s mobile website or one of their mobile apps to post 10 photos, you’ll earn a ‘Slick pic’ badge at level 1

Juniper Forecast: Mobile App Downloads To Reach 25 Billion By 2015
A new report published today by Juniper Research suggests mobile app downloads will surpass 25 billion by 2015, up from just 2.6 billion in 2009. According to the report, players across the mobile value chain are seeking to emulate Apple’s success with the App Store by launching their own branded storefronts, such as the ‘Mobile Market’ from China Unicom, ‘Airtel App Central’ from Bharti and the ‘Apps & Games Shop’ on Vodafone 360

iBooks 1.1.1 for iPhone: better PDF and multimedia support, speed increase
I’m a relative newcomer to iBooks (Free), but I already like it a lot more than Stanza on my iPhone 3GS. There’s something about the iBooks that just *feels* right, and the quality of the page turning animations always amazes me

Awesome Note 4.2 for iPhone: fixes Evernote syncing, sort of
Something about the last update of Awesome Note ($3.99) seems to have broken part of its Evernote syncing capability (or maybe it was Evernote’s Trunk rollout that broke 3rd party syncing?). The problem — which is now sorta-kinda-fixed in v4.2 — was that you could upload notes to Evernote, but not download new ones. It was basically a one-way sync every time, but the syncing dialogue never showed you any problems.

Waterfield updates Smart Case and Suede Jacket for iPhone 4
Smart case left; Suede Jacket right The Waterfield Smart Case ($39 / $45 with clip) and Suede Jacket ($10 / $14 with pocket) have been around for quite a while now, and I think they’re both excellent products. The Smart Case is extremely durable and does a fantastic job of keeping the iPhone inside, and the Suede Jacket is just a decent way to keep your iPhone scratch-free while it’s in your pocket. Both cases are both very, very well made and should last you a while.
