Review: Pulse News Mini for iPhone
[Update 7/21: Pulse 1.0.2 was recently released and addressed some of the issues I had with the app, particularly the loading times and scrolling speed.] What Pulse seems to specialize in (and these are my words, not developer Alphonso Studios’) is a more fluid web reading experience, and, at its best, the app feels more like a good e-magazine with customized content than a list of feeds that you trail your finger down.

Photoforge 1.93 for iPhone: iOS 4 multitasking, optimized image processing
Photoforge ($2.99 – review ), which does a better job of mimicking Photoshop functionality than Photoshop.com Mobile , is now multi-tasking enabled. There isn’t any actual background task completion for saving large images, but you can simply leave the app and come back to it to finish saving a file. This newest update also boasts an optimized image processing engine, but it’s honestly been a while since I’ve used Photoforge for me to tell the difference. I’ve recently been using a mix of Camera+ , TiltShiftGen , and Pixelmator on the Mac for my image manipulation needs. © Ragart for Just Another iPhone Blog , 2010.

Confirmed: iPhone 4Coming to India in September/October
AirTel will be launching the iPhone 4 in India officially in the month of September/October 2010. The phone, which is the 4th generation iPhone was launched by Apple this June and was one of the most anticipated gadgets of 2010 or should I saw now it has become most controversial due to the reception issues of the iPhone OS 4.0. Anyway, AirTel officials have confirmed that they will be launching this pricey gadget in India around September/October, which is in-sync with the rumors that were going around earlier. There is no word from Vodafone on the launch. There are no details about the pricing too. But I am sure by now we know that iPhone’s official cost in India are way ahead than normal mid-range laptops.

Apple AntennaGate Fallout
Following on from the Apple press conference on Friday, it seems that Apple have ruffled the feathers of rival manufacturers, by trying to implement them in the issue of reception problems. You may recall, that during the conference, Apple’s CEO Steve Jobs came out to defend the iPhone 4 , amongst growing criticism of the iPhone Death Grip, where holding the iPhone 4 in a particular way can lead to signal going from full bars to no bars in a matter of seconds. One response from Apple to this problem is to admit to a flaw in the software algorithm that calculates signal strength, which has been dealt with by a software update that was rolled out via iTunes last week. Despite going on to say that less than 1% of all calls to Apple Care regarding the iPhone 4 related to signal problems, Apple acknowledge that where problems exist, encasing the handset in a case, or Bumper can help, so promise to be giving out free cases and Bumpers for the iPhone 4 up until 30th September. What happens then remains to be seen.

Dropped iPhone 4 Calls? Put an Antenn-aid Bandaid On It
Forget dressing your iPhone 4 in a bumper or just some case. What your iPhone 4 anntanae needs is a Bandaid! Or in this case – an Antenn-aid . The Antenn-aid is a silly alternative to a bumper, it’s essentially a sticker that looks like a bandaid and is designed to be placed over the lower left corner of the iPhone 4’s antanna in order to help improve signal performance.

Livescribe Echo Smartpen Review
The new Echo Smartpen improves on the previous generation of Livescribe products with a sleek ergonomic design that features a rubberized grip and anti-roll surface, it’s also available with the biggest capacity ever – 8GB! Livescribe has also made charging the device more convenient, with a micro-USB connector, and the Echo now has a 3.5mm audio jack so that users can use whatever headphones they’d like with it. But I’ll be honest, I had my doubts about a pen that needs to be charged. But, Wow.

iPhone Assisted Guitar Solo
The Brilliant Things, a popular new Irish band, opened the Vodafone stage at the Oxegen festival last Friday with an exclusive… the first time a song has been performed with iPhones, live on stage at a major European festival! The band said “This year we had the privilege of being the first ever band to perform on the new Vodafone stage at Oxegen, so we decided to do something a little special to celebrate.” Good stuff. I have to admit, every time I get my leather jacket with studs on I feel like I need an iPhone attached as well. Articles 1.3 for iPhone: chapter list, language picker
This latest update to Articles ($2.99 – review ) adds a feature I was *just* starting to miss: a chapter list for Wikipedia entries (which the devs call a “contents sheet”). Articles already supports a nifty double-tap scrolling mechanism that allows you to jump through the chapters of an entry as if they were all on a scroll bar, but it really wasn’t an adequate replacement for a real chapter list. At the very least, it’s nice to know which point you’d like to jump to, instead of scrolling blindly, chapter by chapter, to see what’s on the page. If I sound like I’m complaining, I’m really not.
