Ultraviolet could signal the great convergence
I’ve heard that there may be a great convergence, where we would purchase a movie, and be able to watch it from any platform like our television, mobile phone, or PMP. This could happen if Ultraviolet has their way. Right now, Ultraviolet has several members like NBC Universal, for example. However, I don’t think that Apple and iTunes will play nice with it. Especially with the Hulu iPad service and Hulu Plus

Baidu Working On An Open Source Mobile OS Of Its Own, Lead By Ex-Googlers
It’s been reported recently that Baidu — the Chinese search company with an estimated 70% market share — is working on its own open source mobile OS to combat the competition from Android. Most interesting about the development is that it’s being led by ex-Googlers. During the censorship controversy between the Chinese government and Google, many Googlers left the company to join Baidu, and it looks like they’re already being put to good use. Details on the mobile OS are scant, but reports indicate that it will definitely be open source and emulate Android in many ways.

Skype 2.1 for iPhone: iOS 4 fast app switching and background VoIP
Skype (Free) now supports fast app switching and (supposedly) background VoIP, but I still hate it forever. You see, despite Skype’s reputation for connecting people over long distances, it’s done a pretty horrific job at connecting me with family members in the same household. There have been numerous times when Skype has told me I have no friends online, even when I was sitting beside a friend and they were very clearly logged in

Want to tether your computer to your iPhone? Pay up. A certain 15-year-old decided that he didn’t want to pay the $20 monthly fee, and created an app for it. He got approval because it was a simple flashlight app known as Handy Light.

Pulse News Mini 1.0.2 for iPhone: Retina Display update, speed increase, Bump sharing support
Pulse ($2.99 – review ) just got a lot sexier for iPhone 4 users, and faster for everyone. I haven’t had a chance to test a big refresh yet (this update came out last night — official post here ), but I have noted a significant increase in scrolling speed, especially while the app is refreshing. However, I’d argue that it’s an undocumented change that has made the biggest difference in v1.0.2.

Cool Things: AppWall Screensaver for Mac
Remember the App Wall that Apple has had on display for the last couple of years at their WWDC conference? Very impressive stuff – and now you can have a sort of cut-down (very cut down) version of it as a Mac screensaver. It has options to show top free or paid apps. It takes a little bit to load but it’s very cool to look at.

Crisp Wireless Reveals Venture with Verve Wireless
An interesting mobile partnership to watch could be the freshly announced pairing of Crisp Wireless and Verve Wireless The joint venture aims to help deliver “rich media ad options” to local media outlets, like newspapers. Illustrating yet again the massive influx of mobile advertising efforts to the local level, regional advertisers and publishers will now have the chance to leverage the media mobile ads that Crisp Wireless has been powering for national mobile sites and apps. Verve Wireless, of course, can push the Crisp Mobile Ad Platform within the company’s massive international network of better than 700 newspaper publishers, which include such heavyweights as the Evening Post, Examiner.com, Freedom, McClatchy and Media General. According to the joint statement from both companies, the ads will be interactive and serve up nifty attributes like location awareness and click-to-call – all of which will be customized for use on smartphones and other portable devices running either Android or Apple’s iOS (like the iPad)

Windows Phone 7: Five+ Devices and Realistic Expectations
As the Windows Phone 7 technical preview device makes the rounds of the blogs, I must admit I am becoming more hopeful as I listen to what Microsoft is saying and they way they are behaving. They have been making very clear that the software version that people are reviewing now is not the final version and that they are still taking feedback, carefully reading all reviews and working 26 hour days to improve the software.

What’s With All The Padding? Wake up, Palm!
If you can remember all the way back to the dim and distant pre-iPad era, you will recall there was a great deal of speculation as to what Apple was going to call their upcoming “giant iPod” device. The initial frontrunner was the iTablet, which was surpassed by the iSlate when some Apple that term while trying to describe what was to come.

Despite AntennaGate, Business Booms for Apple
It’s hard to keep away from Apple these days, as the iPhone continues to hog headlines for all sorts of reasons. But looking at facts and figures, it would seem that whilst the iPhone 4 antenna has been the focus of many over the last few weeks, it hasn’t had much of an impact on the overall success of device, in terms of sales. Overall sales of the iPhone, in all its variations, came to 8.4 million, an amazing 61% increase in year on year numbers. The iPhone 4 accounted for over 3 million of these, and most manufacturers can only dream of producing a handset that sells in such high numbers in such a short space of time. Without doubt the negative views in recent days will have had an impact on recent sales figures, and we can only wonder at how many more sales there would have been had the whole AntennaGate issue not erupted
