Star Wars Trench Run 2.0
We are no stranger to Star Wars games, like the Battle for Hoth . Now, Trench Run is receiving an update to 2.0. You can see work here in the video with “Brass Monkey” technology that allows you to use the iPhone as a controller for a big screen version of the game. In addition to this very cool feature, there are new levels and ships as well. I believe that the Trench Run game costs $5, and the 2.0 update will cost $0.99.

Verizon Wireless DROID X plagued by Wi-Fi connectivity issues?
Chatter on the forums suggests that the latest update hitting the DROID X has not fixed the WiFi connectivity problem many users were reporting. Affected DROID X owners report that their handsets have difficulty connecting to a WiFi router and poor network performance once a connection has been established. Several users report that changing the encryption from AES to TKIP has alleviated the problem, while others note that changing your router to 802.11g instead of 802.11n has decreased the number of network disconnects. Anyone with a DROID X currently experiencing this problem?

Virgin Mobile Posts iPhone 4 Information Page
Slowly but surely the Canadian wireless carriers are getting their iPhone 4 information pages up to date. This week, Virgin Mobile is the next wireless carrier to post their iPhone 4 information page. Oddly enough, the page still indicates “coming soon” but that will probably change real quick. There is also a “Register Now” link where users can sign up and receive up to date information on the iPhone 4.

Pulse News Mini 1.0.2 for iPhone: Retina Display update, speed increase, Bump sharing support
Pulse ($2.99 – review ) just got a lot sexier for iPhone 4 users, and faster for everyone. I haven’t had a chance to test a big refresh yet (this update came out last night — official post here ), but I have noted a significant increase in scrolling speed, especially while the app is refreshing. However, I’d argue that it’s an undocumented change that has made the biggest difference in v1.0.2.

Skype updated for iOS 4, background VoIP is a go (update: no plans to charge for 3G use)
Well, it’s about time. Touted back in March as one of the pillar apps to benefit from the new multitasking API, Skype has finally been updated to iOS 4 compatibility. We’re seeing crisper, more retina display-friendly graphics and, more importantly, background VoIP (not for iPhone 3G, naturally). A notification window will pop up when you’re called or messaged, and you can use other apps while on the line chatting to international friends at reduced rates. Even on the lock screen, if you receive a call, sliding to unlock will take you immediately into the call.

Skype with multitasking support now available for iPhone 4 and 3GS, 3G calls to stay free
Skype has always sort of served as one of the poster children for why iOS just had to allow applications to run in the background. I mean, come on: being able to avoid gobbling up my precious minutes without having to keep the application open all the time just so I don’t miss calls? Yes

AT&T Samsung Captivate (Galaxy S) review
The Galaxy S, when announced, had a full 4 hours to bask in the limelight of this year’s CTIA in Las Vegas before Sprint outshone it with the HTC EVO 4G, the country’s very first 4G phone of any kind. While the EVO’s specs were clearly more breathtaking, the Galaxy S still had nothing to cry about.

Popular Shipped ROMS website now in suspended animation
After compiling and posting ROMs for hundreds of smartphones — from HTC, RIM, Motorola, and more — Conflipper is throwing in the towel and no longer updating his popular Shipped ROMS website. The decision is part of a compromise negotiated with HTC following a Cease and Desist letter from the handset manufacturer over these publicly available ROMs. As part of the agreement, Conflipper is permitted to keep all current ROMs on his site but is forbidden to upload any new ones

Nexus One sold out forever in Google’s store
Can’t say we didn’t warn you that Google only had a final batch of Nexus Ones left to sell in its special online store. No one anticipated it will sell out so fast though. Perhaps all the media attention that this last shipment got persuaded a lot of people who used to be undecided to go and order one from Google. One way or the other, it’s officially sold out

Dragon Age: Origins for Mac Gets 1.03 Patch, Return to Ostagar DLC … and As Promised, I Eat My Words
Back when I reviewed the Mac version of the excellent RPG Dragon Age Origins, I was pretty harsh, saying: Of course, there is always the chance that what Transgaming told Matt was accurate and there is a new DLC integration system coming, and all of the patches are coming and Return to Ostagar is coming and so on. I have stated in various Mac gaming forums that I will be very happy to eat my words and publicly state my mistaken assumptions, but for now here is my conclusion: Dragon Age: Origins for the Mac is unsupported abandonware. If you want to be able to get the full Dragon Age experience, I recommend getting set up with Bootcamp so you can play the Windows version

Ray-Ban Clubmaster
By Gear Patrol reader Mathew Claudel Almost everyone has owned a pair of aviators (thank you 2001), and when they realized they were unoriginal, they then bought Ray-Ban Wayfarers (circa 2006). Now you can’t turn around without seeing some variation on the theme – colored rims, lenses, brands, etc. This summer we’ve found a remedy: the Ray-Ban Clubmaster ($145) . The iconic design was introduced in 1986, but recalls the era of Jack Kerouac, James Dean and their careless ’50s style. Ray-Ban re-released the Clubmaster in December of 2008 to somewhat of a cult following as compared to its Wayfarer cousin.

A few more BlackBerry OS 6 images for y’all
RIM are clearly trying to keep your focus on their upcoming BlackBerry OS 6. We’ve seen two different videos already, as well as a bunch of phone leaks and screen shots . And now, just for you guys, they’ve posted a whole heap more to their Inside BlackBerry blog. You can see their updated camera app — which now includes facial recognition — their updated photo viewer, and other multimedia features like video podcasts and the new music player (you’ll have to go to their blog to see that screenshot, though). I’ve never been a huge fan of BlackBerrys (BlackBerries?), but I gotta say, OS 6 looks pretty slick.
