First Symbian 3 smartphone won’t be Nokia N8, launching from ‘Asian vendor’ in 2010
Nokia has been having a hard time keeping up with snazzy new smartphones powered by the iPhone OS and Google ( NSDQ: GOOG )’s Android mobile operating system, but the Finns are looking to rejuvenate their handsets with the launch of Symbian^3 later this year. But, rather than launch Symbian 3 on the Nokia ( NYSE: NOK ) N8, as has been expected , the updated Symbian platform will apparently launch on a smartphone from an “Asian vendor.” The more user – and developer -friendly Symbian^3 OS is due to be launched in the third quarter , after a delay that pushed back it’s initial first quarter launch window. Word of the first smartphone to run the new Symbian OS comes straight from the source. Symbian Foundation executive director Lee Williams said in an interview that the simpler and more eye-catching Symbian 3 UI was headed to market and added that the platform is almost code complete. The first device to make use of the platform, it seems, could come from Asian smartphone powerhouses like Samsung, HTC or even LG, although Williams was tight-lipped about exactly which vendor would take first dibs on the new version of Nokia’s go-to OS.

Nokia Messaging Beta for IM updated for touch-based devices

Nokia X6 hitting South Korea in June
After the Nokia ( NYSE: NOK ) 6210s and Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, another handset made by the Finnish giant is entering the ever competitive mobile phone market of South Korea. The device I’m talking about is the X6, which is arguably the single most desired Symbian S60 smartphone on the market today — actually, that’s the single most touch-enabled Symbian S60 smartphone, cause many people want the E71 or E72

8 Useful Public Folder Management Scripts in Exchange Server 2010
Exchange Server 2010 ships with eight very useful Powershell scripts that can be used for managing Public Folders. The scripts perform tasks relating to Public Folder replicas and permissions that are otherwise not easily manageable through the management console or shell. Each of the scripts is developed for making recursive changes to public folders. This means that when you target the script at a particular folder, or the root of the public folder tree, it applies the action to all subfolders of that folder. These scripts only apply to servers running Exchange 2007 or Exchange 2010, you can not specify a server running older versions of Exchange Server.

Four characteristics of a good whitelist
Since spam has reared its ugly head on the Internet, its antagonists have waged an uphill struggle to block its arrival in inboxes. That battle, though, has remained largely reactive. White Hats expend enormous amounts of energy to extinguish the latest fire set by spammers so that good mail can make it to its destination unsinged. Much of that energy could be saved, however, if spam fighters focused their efforts on what’s good in the email stream instead of what’s bad

Compress Email Attachments
In Heinz Tschabitscher’s article, “ Why You Should Compress Files Before Sending Them via Email ”, Heinz discusses various reasons for compressing email before it’s sent out. Some of the reasons that the author mentions include: unnecessary long download times, waste of network resources and inefficient storage usage of certain file formats such as Microsoft Word documents. The author also mentions setting thresholds such as 10MB or greater at which email attachments should be considered as candidates for compression.

What to do With Those PST Files
The Outlook Personal Folders file (PST) had its day. It was once the ultimate or perhaps only solution to reducing the cost of storing old emails within the Exchange server database. Those days are largely gone. Exchange servers can scale up to much larger database sizes than they could 10 years ago. Disk and tape storage is cheap, and emails themselves are getting larger and larger. And enterprise email archiving is efficient, cost effective, and even comes built in to the latest version of Exchange Server.

Troubleshooting Delegated Email Issues
In large organizations it can be a very convenient capability to allow some of your co-workers access to your calendar. This feature supports collaboration and helps to avoid over scheduling of meetings and appointments. Along with that capability is another feature that can allow other users access to your mailbox. This other feature is referred to as granting delegation access

Troubleshooting Public Folder Replication Problems
Administration of a server or of an enterprise of servers will often require the installation of updates to keep a system patched with the latest fixes. But at some point an upgrade or a migration will be needed. Email administrators, or any administrator of a system for that matter, will sooner or later encounter a situation where the most recent migration has not gone well. Sometimes it is necessary to rollback to a previous working version to keep the users and the managers happy.

Microsoft releases stealth patches for Exchange
Microsoft released some security patches last month without revealing them to the public. Some of the fixes affected software in mission critical Exchange mail servers. The patches were hidden in one of Microsoft’s periodic updates issued April 13, namely “Microsoft Security Bulletin MS10-024 – Important: Vulnerabilities in Microsoft Exchange and Windows SMTP Service Could Allow Denial of Service (981832).” “This security update resolves one publicly disclosed vulnerability and one privately reported vulnerability in Microsoft Exchange and Windows SMTP Service,” Microsoft said in the security bulletin’s executive summary. “The more severe of these vulnerabilities could allow denial of service if an attacker sent a specially crafted DNS response to a computer running the SMTP service,” it continued

Exchange Server SLAs, and Why You Need One
The worst possible time to define your uptime and availability requirements for an Exchange environment is when that environment is unavailable. No email administrator wants to hear “We need this working within 2 hours” when they are looking at a dead server that is going to take all night to recover. Uptime and availability should be defined within an SLA, or Service Level Agreement. An Exchange Server SLA should exist in all organizations, even those that provide their own internal IT services. The SLA is between the IT supplier or IT department and the rest of the business, and clearly defines what is an acceptable downtime or outage of the Exchange environment
