WWDC 2010: The Good The Bad, and the Meh

As with all big Apple events, I once again find people turning to me for my opinion on the announcements from Apple’s 2010 WWDC. Honestly I can’t blame them, as my opinion is often the only correct one when it comes to such things. I seem to have the uncanny ability to cut through

Apple unveils iPhone 4

Today at WWDC, Steve Jobs unveiled the long-awaited and already-leaked iPhone 4 — which is not the “iPhone 4G ,” as was anticipated. Here are the highlights: The design of the iPhone has been completely overhauled. Gone is the soap-shaped smartphone of… well, yesterday. Instead, we have a sleek new ultra-thin device shaped not unlike a 2001 monolith, with rounded edges. In essence, it looks like a miniature iMac

AT&T gives the iPhone 3GS a price cut

Maybe your current iPhone is falling apart at the seams or perhaps something about the iPhone 4 just rubs you the wrong way, we don’t know, but in case you’re desperate to get a new iPhone today, AT&T has announced it has cut the contract price of both the 16 and 32GB models. The 16GB model now goes for $149 while the 32GB goes for $199. It’s probably not the most wise decision to grab one considering what’s going down in 18 days , but this is definitely your last shot at getting a 3GS before it gets its capacity neutered down to a measly 8GB . Apple Announce the iPhone 4

We’ve known it was coming for a long time, and finally today the wait is over; Apple have confirmed the Apple iPhone 4 . We will look at the device in more detail in a subsequent post, but for now let’s take a brief look at the latest incarnation of one of the most popular mobile devices ever manufactured. The new iPhone 4 is the thinnest iPhone to date, measuring in at just 9.3mm thick. The chassis of the phone is made from stainless steel, giving the iPhone a solid feel, and the aerial of the device is also incorporated into this chassis.

Bumpers Add Some Color to the New iPhone 4

Wow, it feels good to finally have that announcement out of the way! We will admit that we’re a bit disappointed that Apple didn’t announce the iPhone 4 in a selection of new colors, which had been the rumor that had been circulating recently.

Everything you need to know about the iPhone 4

As expected, the iPhone 4 was announced today during Steve Jobs’ keynote at WWDC. Its flagship features are, of course, the extremely high resolution screen , video chat capability with FaceTime , and the sexy new form factor. But there’s more to the 4 than that, and even those seemingly self-explanatory new features deserve a closer look. Let’s see just what Apple’s done here with its biggest update to the iPhone since the original.

iphone 4 price, release date and specs revealed (4th-gen, not 4G)

As expected by pretty much the entire world, Steve Jobs today showed off the new iPhone 4 at WWDC 2010 at San Francisco’s Moscone Center. New Apple iPhone gets official as iPhone 4. 960 x 640 pixels Retina Display, HD video and more

As expected, today Apple has announced the fourth generation iPhone , which is not called iPhone 4G, and neither iPhone HD, but simply iPhone 4 . Steve Jobs says that iPhone 4 represents “the biggest leap since the original iPhone.” The new handset looks a lot like that leaked prototype we’ve seen many times until now. It’s 9.4mm thick (“24% thinner than the iPhone 3G”), and it comes with a 3.5 inch so-called “Retina Display”, which features “326 pixels per inch” – that’s 960 x 640 pixels . “There has never been a display like this on a phone” says Steve Jobs, adding that the IPS technology used by the new display is “quite a bit better than OLED.” No mention of Samsung’s Super AMOLED display, though. Here are some of the new features the iPhone 4 has: iPhone OS 4 – which has been renamed to “iOS 4″ for some reason 3-axis gyroscope (great for gaming) 5MP camera with LED flash, tap to focus and “backside illuminated sensor” which should make photos taken in low-light conditions look better HD video recording (720p at 30fps) Front-facing camera for video calling (video calling will be made via an app called FaceTime; sadly, it will work only via Wi-Fi this year, but Apple is working with carriers to make it available via 3G, too) Better battery – up to 300 hours of stand-by time iMovie (available for $4.99 in App Store) Netflix (available for free later in the summer) iBooks (like on the iPad) iAds – “to help developers make money” The Apple iPhone 4 will be available in both black and white

AT&T favorably adjusts iPhone upgrade eligibility, just in time for the iPhone 4G

Later today, Apple is expected to officially announce the fourth-generation iPhone (widely known as iPhone 4G or iPhone HD – although it might have a different name in the end). In order to lure as many users to buy the new iPhone, AT&T has reportedly adjusted upgrade eligibility requirements, so if yesterday you were not eligible to get a new subsidized iPhone, today you might be (with or without the $18 upgrade fee). You can check if you’re eligible by logging in to AT&T’s website with your Wireless Number or U-verse Member ID. The new Apple iPhone should have a white and a black version, probably featuring a 960 x 460 pixels display, 5MP camera with flash, video calling, tethering, and a faster processor. We’ll bring more details when the smartphone is announced.

Motorola FlipOut with MotoBlur Review

The seemingly unstoppable march of Android devices continues, with yet another Android device being announced, this time we have the Motorola FlipOut with MotoBlur . It’s one of the strengths of the Android OS, that it is not tied to any one particular manufacturer. Whereas Apple have their iPhone OS, and Symbian is found more often than not on Nokia devices, Android has products from Samsung, Sony Ericsson, LG, Motorola , and lesser known names such as Huawei, Dell, Acer and Asus. The wide variety of manufacturers also brings a lot of creative thinking to these products, and whilst the traditional PDA look is the most common, there are a few devices that offer something a little different in the style department, and the Motorola FlipOut certainly comes under that heading. The shape of the FlipOut is square, with the phone measuring 67mm up and 67mm across

The TV is the next step for Google and Apple to put their ads

Overall, the Google TV looks very good and would be a great product, but will still be complex and hard to understand, because it uses the Android software.  On the other hand, the Apple TV will be easier to use, cheaper and much more attractive. At this moment, Apple knows everything that the customer wants regarding gadgets, the software and applications that they can use on them, unlike Google, which only knows everything that it is to know about the Internet. The Apple Company doesn’t care about what the customer thinks, they just simply release a gadget that is easy to use by everyone, especially for those who don’t know how to use a computer.  There are rumors that the new Apple TV will not have Ethernet. If you don’t know, the Ethernet can work faster, and it’s more reliable, but this is one of the reasons why Apple is so successful.  They make these decisions for the customer and their successful. Even if the Apple TV has about as many features as the Google TV, at this point it doesn’t really matter
