Smartphones Council Four

This week we have some interesting news, games and of course, one big fat iPhone… sorry, iPad. The Mobile Spoon: This week the Spoon got a little depressed with at least 5 features the new iPad misses . Lucky there are plenty of jokes to cheer everybody up … And while Apple made all the noise, we found that WinMo 6.5.3 was quietly released … JAMM: We spent some time over at JAMM covering and sharing our thoughts, both positive and negative on the upcoming iPad. We also shared some interesting reviews on Resco’s Photo Manager 7 for Windows Mobile and a brilliant little utility that toggles bluetooth on and discoverable at the same time

Rumor: iPhone OS 3.2 to Feature Video Calling, File Download and Multitasking Support

iPhone OS 3.2 is currently in development and may in fact sport some really cool new features. Per Engadget , a series of “extremely trusted sources” have stated that iPhone OS 3.2 contains rudimentary support for video calling. Engadget’s sources said there are hooks to accept and decline a video conference, flip a video feed (a factor that could suggest a front-facing camera on future iPhone modens) and the ability to run a video call in either full screen mode or in just a portion of the screen, which could be indicative of some basic form of multitasking.

Tek Jansen shows off his iPad at the Grammys

Damn it! How was I supposed to know there would be something actually worth watching at the Grammy’s last night?!? Yes, apparently Stephen Colbert whipped out an iPad to read the nominees for the “Song of the Year” category, while I was watching Mystery Science Theater 3000 reruns on Netflix On-Demand. I stand by my choice.

Steve Jobs,"Next iPhone Update is A+; Flash is buggy, HTML 5 is the Future"

Apple’s Tablet, the iPad, was one of the most anticipated device of 2010 (2010 has just started by the way so there are many more to come from other guys). When Steve Jobs launched the iPad on Jan 27 2010, the whole Internet came to a stand still and everybody was busy tracking, live blogging, tweeting, facebooking the event. Along with the iPad there was a rumor that Apple would be launching an upgraded version of the iPhone OS but as it was a iPad dedicated event no news came on that from

An iPhone saved a person’s life

Dan Woolley, was caught under a pile of rubble when the Haiti earthquake hit. With the use of a first-aid app in his iPhone, he managed to create a tourniquet for his injured leg and bandage for his head. iPad, anyone? Hospitals looking at the mobile device

Apple’s new creation, the iPad, may be a novelty to many consumers, but hospitals are already starting to abandon paper-and-pen clipboards for hand-held digital tablets. In Sacramento, Kaiser Permanente is in the midst of experimenting with one brand of computerized tablets – with the hope of freeing nurses and doctors from old-school tools and allowing them more time at a patient’s bedside

Consumer 10.0: Web service can help cut monthly cell phone bills

Dissatisfied wireless customers got their due last week. After years of complaints about early-termination fees, the Federal Communications Commission finally showed signs of a serious inquiry into the charges. And the shortcomings of AT&T Wireless’ network, familiar to disgruntled iPhone users, drew wide attention for an ironic reason: Apple’s decision to stick with AT&T when it launches its eagerly awaited iPad mobile computer this spring. But today’s column isn’t about dissatisfied wireless customers. It’s about the vast majority of the nation’s 276 million wireless subscribers who are at least modestly happy with a technology that has changed so many aspects of their day-to-day lives

Ancient Frog on iPad – Developer Thoughts

For the many that surely missed it, on Wednesday Apple quietly announced a new member of the iPhone OS family, the iPad. And, while it runs existing iPhone applications just fine in a pixel-for-pixel or 2x-scaled mode, the device with its 9.7-inch screen has much more to offer in the way of screen real estate (over 5x the pixel count of the iPhone) and both CPU and GPU power. The iPad proposition gives iPhone developers much to ponder in the way of just how best to support it

iCelebrate ~ Valentine’s Day Wants to Win Your Heart With Music

Who doesn’t love a good love song, smooth jazz, or a little R&B? OK, probably plenty of people – especially as Valentine’s Day approaches and those with contempt for the hopelessly romantic and barrage of candy hearts and chocolate flowers that celebrate them are reminded of the pending day in every store. The App Store to is filled with reminders of the pending love fest, and  iCelebrate ~ Valentine’s Day will help you celebrate or, as the case may be, rue the day alongside a quart of chocolate chip ice cream. Much like Conduits Technologies, Inc.’s iCelebrate ~ Christmas, which I’m sad to say I missed, iCelebrate ~ Valentine’s Day is a holiday countdown with streaming music and animated backgrounds. You can choose to stream specific genres, including love songs, smooth jazz, easy listening, and R&B or stream them all
