Next-Gen iPhone Model Number Discovered – Code Named N89

Let the iPhone 4th Gen (4G) rumor roll-in!!! Engadget has dug deep into the iPads 3.2 SDK and iPhone 3.1.3 firmware, and have found more evidence of iPhone 4G . Its code named N89 (might be shipped sometime during June-July). Buried way inside the platform simulator lies a set of folders dedicated to specific models of iPhone OS-ready devices, including the iPhone 3GS, second generation iPod touch, something called the “K48? (yep, the codename we were told was the internal name for the iPad ), and… the “N89.” Sure, it sounds like a Nokia phone just waiting to happen, but this is — according to our extremely knowledgeable and trusted sources — likely the codename of the next iPhone (previous versions were called the M68, N82, and N88)

Apple May Address iPhone File Frustrations

Everybody grouses about the lack of multitasking for third-party apps on the iPhone (and iPad). But another limitation of the current platform is at l east as limiting: The data sandboxing files that hobbles third-party apps’ ability to move files on and off the iPhone or share them with other applications. Today, there’s both bad news and good news on this front. Bad news: Apple made e-book reader Stanza (owned by Amazon.com) remove a feature for transferring books via USB, on the grounds that it violated the iPhone developer agreement. Good news: Ars Technica is reporting that iPhone OS 3.2, the version on the iPad, has a shared-storage folder that’s accessible to third-party apps — including computer apps that can see the folder when the iPhone is attached via USB.
