The iPhone/iOS hacking community has been busy over the past few days, dealing with a newly released exploit – Limera1n – by notorious modder Geohot that prompted the iPhone Dev Team to rethink their own strategy and not waste “a perfectly good bootrom hole” of their own.  It seems that work has come to fruition,

In iPhone’s jump to other carriers, something’s got to give

On Monday morning, Microsoft officially announced Windows Phone 7, a long-overdue reboot of the company’s smartphone OS that offers some compelling features to Office junkies, Xbox gamers, and anything-but-iPhone customers. With Microsoft launching a full broadside—ten phones by a variety of manufacturers on dozens of carriers—it’s another example of Apple seeing stepped-up competition in the mobile arena. And Cupertino may be in a far less advantageous position than it was just a couple years ago, especially when it comes to dealing with the carriers, who now have no shortage of other smartphone platforms to turn to. When Apple introduced the iPhone in 2007, smartphone design had grown largely stagnant. It was hard to argue with Apple CEO Steve Jobs’s proclamation that the iPhone was five years ahead of the competition—and this was before you could whip out the “there’s an app for that” card. The iPhone was both a line in the sand for good mobile phone design, and a battle cry for the little guy turning the tables on the carriers: It featured no AT&T branding, came preloaded with none of the usual carrier bloatware, and even got AT&T to change its network to handle new phone features like Visual Voicemail.

No LTE/4G iPhone From Apple in 2011

Apple’s iPhone is one of the most popular smartphones on the market. Outside of the United States, many wireless carriers feature support for the mobile phone. However, when it comes to the United States the iPhone is offered by just AT&T. This has angered many because AT&T has been known to have shoddy service in various parts of the country. Luckily, rumors have been circulating for quite some time that say AT&T will eventually bring the device to Verizon Wireless .

apple patent hints at magsafe connector for iphone and ipad

I use an iPhone, but I am not a huge fan of Apple’s computers. I prefer Windows, but I will admit to being jealous of the cool MagSafe connector that MacBooks have. I have snagged my deckchair on the cord to my notebook before and ripped the thing off the desk damaging it in the process, so I can appreciate a breakaway cable

Greenpois0n iOS 4.1 Jailbreak Gets Delayed

Yesterday the Chronic Dev Team were due to launch the Greenpois0n iOS 4.1 jailbreak for the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch, unfortunately it has now been delayed, because of the recent release of Limera1n. The Chronic Dev team have decided to delay the release, because the Limera1n jailbreak uses a different exploit that the SHatter exploit that was going to be used in Greeenpois0n. If the Chronic Dev Team had released Greenpois0n using the SHatter exploit, Apple would have a chance to patch it, and the LimeRa1n exploit, but by holding off they are saving the SHatter exploit for a future date, which makes it better for the jailbreaking community. Instead the Chronic Dev Team are working on Greenpois0n using the same exploit that GeoHot has used in Limera1n, you can see what they had to say about his release below
