Google Starts Pushing Local QR-Codes For Business Listings, Will It Pay Off?
Google has begun a massive mobile marketing campaign surrounding Place Pages, the small pages that display info for local businesses on Google Maps. What’s interesting is that the centerpiece for the campaign is the use of QR-Codes. Google is starting things off by sending QR-code decals to some 190,000 local businesses across the US. Google determined the most searched for and most clicked local Place Pages for the initial run, though a full release is imminent

Quick Thoughts: is Apple becoming more tolerant in approving apps?
About a week ago an Italian app named Future Mail was approved , even though it makes use of private APIs. As Steve Jobs said, the use of private APIs is no longer accepted due to some problems users have had (and could have in he future). This is the email from apple explaining the situation: During our review of your application we found it is using a private API, which is in violation of the iPhone Developer Program License Agreement section 3.3.1; “3.3.1 Applications may only use Documented APIs in the manner prescribed by Apple and must not use or call any private APIs.” While your application has not been rejected, it would be appropriate to resolve this issue in your next update. Another similar case appeared this December: Knocking was approved by Apple when Steve Jobs himself intervened.

Shiny Media’s Video Review of the Nokia X6
Calling it “the noisiest phone they’ve ever reviewed”, it’s the Nokia X6 – comes with music phone. Taking over as the new music flagship (if there ever was one in Nokia’s line up) as well as being the top Xseries and first Nokia phone to sport a capacitive touch screen. Big hits for the “blackberry like” Nokia Messaging where your emails instantly pop up and the fantastic Twitter (and facebook, and Google Reader!) client, Gravity. [note, I don't think the X6 has a memory card slot as claimed in the video]

Swimmer’s Waterproof MP3 Player Could Pump Up Michael Phelps for More Gold
I’m not sure that this is the right time of year to be selling a waterproof MP3 player but alas Hammacher Schlemmer doesn’t seem to have an issue with it – so why should we. The Swimmer’s Waterproof MP3 player attaches to a pair of swimming goggles, allowing you to listen to music while you swim. The player supports Mp3 and WMV audio files and comes with 1GB of built-in memory. The player consists of your basic controls for volume, track forward/backward, and play/pause and includes an armband and earbud extension cable. The battery supposedly is intended to last about 6 hours – just enough for Michael Phelps to get in a good training session

Mini Email works the same as mini SMS, you install it to your desktop, extract the files, and you load the app through the App Loader in BlackBerry Desktop Manager. The icon is a little yellow envelope, and you choose your shortcuts from your contact with two initials so when you open the app, click the two initials, the email comes up to that person ready for you to compose.
