Dr. Seuss Books Apps for iPad
Oceanhouse Media has introduced some book apps for iPad (also compatible with iPhone/iPod touch) that can entertain your child and even help her learn to read. There are three ways to read the book: “read to me” reads the book aloud to the child and highlights the words as they are spoken, “read it myself”, and “auto play” with narration and automated page turns for the youngest children. Oceanhouse has several Dr. Seuss book apps available. You can check out all their offerings at the Oceanhouse link above, or start with the Dr

Dell Introduces My New Laptop: Updated Alienware m11x with Core i5 & i7!
Yeah, so I just bought the Alienware m11x less than four months ago and wrote about it here . But in that time the Alienware has become my ‘everything’ laptop – gaming, email, backup for work, and on and on. The ability to run top end games like Alpha Protocol at maximum settings easily for > 2 hours on a single charge, combined with > 8 hour battery life using power saving mode and the integrated graphics has been a real change in how I do things. The ability to switch graphics modes easily has allowed me to manage my power usage in a way I’ve never done before

Windows 7 tablet in a carbon fiber case
If you’re not one of Apple’s devoted following the iPad means little more than new hardware you won’t use. Tired of being left out in the cold, [Slampana] built himself a Windows 7 tablet . He grabbed the motherboard and 13.4″ screen from an MSI X320, added a resistive touch screen, USB hub, internal WiFi and Bluetooth, then wrapped it up in a custom-built carbon case.

Chevy and OnStar to train first responders on Volt
Photos courtesy GM As a former firefighter/paramedic, I am glad to see that automakers are providing training for first responders before a new type vehicle hits the streets and forces them to “learn from experience.” Training and preparation is key to successful incident response and reaction and Chevrolet is teaming up with OnStar to prepare emergency personnel for the arrival of Volt. When hybrids first hit the mass market about a decade ago, I grabbed a Toyota Prius and a Honda Insight from the press fleets and visited several area fire departments here in north Texas to give emergency personnel the opportunity to see the vehicles up close and learn the facts surrounding how to respond to emergencies involving these vehicles. I believe that everyone can benefit from a bit of knowledge concerning the operational characteristics of the coming wave of electric vehicles, as well as current hybrids that are capable of operating in electric-only mode.

DirecTV has been my TV provider of choice for a long time now. Mostly because the cable company in my area is really bad offering like 15 HD channels. I am a huge DVR fan and have long wished for more storage space on my DirecTV DVR and the ability to watch the programs I record on other TVs. DirecTV has announced a new service called Whole Home DVR .

Windows Phone 7 Marketplace regulations, features detailed
Ars Technica has an interesting write-up on the rules and regulations developers will have to follow in order to publish to the Windows Phone 7 Marketplace. For the most part, Microsoft’s terms seem pretty standard – especially when compared to other mobile application ecosystems such as Android’s Market or Apple’s App Store — however, there are a few exceptions. For starters, a developer account will be priced at $99, which is slightly more than Android’s $0 price point but right on par with Apple’s iPhone Developer account. The $99 includes an unlimited number of paid application submissions and 5 free-applications submissions per year; additional free-app submissions will cost $19.99. This should, as Ars put it, “discourage mass submissions of junk applications.” Moving on, WP7 Store will allow applications to have time-limited, fully-featured trials — thank you Microsoft! Ars goes on to point out that: “Many of the free programs on Apple’s store are just cut-down versions of other, paid applications; with Marketplace’s built-in support of trials these free programs might not be necessary.” Right on

Mobile Advertising
Mobile advertising is generally a new technology and like all new technology its changing rapidly, nearly every day in fact. Until a few days ago, the biggest mobile advertising company in the world was AdMob Inc which has just been take over by Google. This will make it more difficult for Apple, who are also interested in this lucrative market with their iAds system to charge a higher price because they have competition now, strong competition.
