Top AR Developer Howard Ogden on the big names interested in AR and those damn limited internet deals

We asked Howard Odgen about some of the other people getting interested in Augmented Reality, Foursquare for example who recently released “layers” of their own. Though he remained a little tight-lipped about that, he did agree that it would…

HP confirms that Slate is still kicking, ‘next steps’ being determined

We were quite surprised (to say the least!) to see the original Windows 7 HP Slate 500 appear yesterday on the company’s site , and HP officially confirmed this morning that the product is still very much in the works. The outfit’s not sharing much, but a spokesperson from its Personal Systems group did tell us that they’re “in customer evaluations now and will make a determination soon on the next steps.” It all seems very vague and mysterious at this point, but the evidence is surely mounting that we’ll be seeing HP join Microsoft’s “hardcore” tablet push.

Rat lungs successfully grown in bioreactor: groundbreaking, yet also kind of gross

Bioartifical organs differ from, well, plain ol’ artificial organs because they consist of biomaterials and cells. And while bioartificial livers are becoming increasingly commonplace, it’s only recently that working lungs have been grown in a lab. Working at the Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School in Boston, researchers removed the left lungs from rats and stripped them of cells with a process that left the blood vessels, airways, and connective tissues intact. Using all that as a sort of scaffolding, lung cells were regrown on the scaffolding in a bioreactor.

Fix Your iPhone 4′s Antenna Problem Without a Case

If your iPhone 4 suffers from the “death grip” antenna problem, you’ve certainly heard by now that Apple will be giving you a free case.  If you prefer to use your devices without a case, you probably won’t be happy even with the relatively small Bumper case.  The CoolDecal shop at Etsy is offering a simple vinyl decal that wraps around the metal and creates a buffer between your hand and the antenna.  The decal is high quality, precision-cut, self-adhesive vinyl.  It’s available in a variety of colors and patterns.  If you decide you don’t like the decal, it removes easily and leaves behind no adhesive.  The vinyl decal wraps are $9.99 each at … [ visit site to read more ] Filed in categories: News , iPhone, iPad, iPod related Tagged: iPhone 4 case Fix Your iPhone 4′s Antenna Problem Without a Case originally appeared on The Gadgeteer on July 21, 2010 at 12:00 pm.

Dragon Age: Origins for Mac Gets 1.03 Patch, Return to Ostagar DLC … and As Promised, I Eat My Words

Back when I reviewed the Mac version of the excellent RPG Dragon Age Origins, I was pretty harsh, saying: Of course, there is always the chance that what Transgaming told Matt was accurate and there is a new DLC integration system coming, and all of the patches are coming and Return to Ostagar is coming and so on. I have stated in various Mac gaming forums that I will be very happy to eat my words and publicly state my mistaken assumptions, but for now here is my conclusion: Dragon Age: Origins for the Mac is unsupported abandonware. If you want to be able to get the full Dragon Age experience, I recommend getting set up with Bootcamp so you can play the Windows version

Ray-Ban Clubmaster

By Gear Patrol reader Mathew Claudel Almost everyone has owned a pair of aviators (thank you 2001), and when they realized they were unoriginal, they then bought Ray-Ban Wayfarers (circa 2006). Now you can’t turn around without seeing some variation on the theme – colored rims, lenses, brands, etc. This summer we’ve found a remedy: the Ray-Ban Clubmaster ($145) . The iconic design was introduced in 1986, but recalls the era of Jack Kerouac, James Dean and their careless ’50s style. Ray-Ban re-released the Clubmaster in December of 2008 to somewhat of a cult following as compared to its Wayfarer cousin.

A few more BlackBerry OS 6 images for y’all

RIM are clearly trying to keep your focus on their upcoming BlackBerry OS 6. We’ve seen two different videos already, as well as a bunch of phone leaks and screen shots . And now, just for you guys, they’ve posted a whole heap more to their Inside BlackBerry blog. You can see their updated camera app — which now includes facial recognition — their updated photo viewer, and other multimedia features like video podcasts and the new music player (you’ll have to go to their blog to see that screenshot, though). I’ve never been a huge fan of BlackBerrys (BlackBerries?), but I gotta say, OS 6 looks pretty slick.

The Crazy Story of Digital Highs & why MP3 files really aren’t drugs

Google Nexus One Officially Sold Out from Store

We heard a couple of days ago that the Nexus One, the first “superphone,” was going to meet its end within the official Google Phone Store; and while we assumed that it wouldn’t last long, we’re still surprised to see that it happened this fast. Just two days later, and Google’s letting everyone know that the last Nexus One has already been sent out, leaving the digital store shelves blank and uninviting. But that doesn’t mean you’re completely without options. You just need to be near the wireless carrier KT in South Korea, or Vodafone in Europe to get your hands on one.

New 3D Gesture Control System Makes Minority Report Look Dated (video)

3D Gesture control represented in movies such as Minority Report starring Tom Cruise is always great to see and normally so far fetched that real-life technology takes years to match the movie. Well a new 3D gesture control system designed ad developed by Fraunhofer is looking to make the Minor Report system resemble an old Windows 3.1 computer. Check out the video of the system in action, after the jump

Fujifilm shoots out five new cameras: F300EXR, Z800EXR, Z80, JX280 and S2800HD

What you just heard was the sound of five new FinePix cameras popping out of Fujifilm’s doors. Yippie! If all goes well, we’ll be seeing these SDHC -loving / xD -hating babies from late August. Let’s start working through the list: the 12 megapixel, 720p-video (24fps) F300EXR boasts auto-focus speeds that are “as good as” DSLRs , all thanks to the camera’s hybrid auto-focus system — a combination of Contrast AF (as used on most compacts) and Phase Detection AF (as found on most DSLRs).

Glympse – Controlled Location Sharing with Friends
