PBS To Air Video Games Live, Blu-Ray and CD To Follow
Video Games Live is pretty much the best video game concert event outside of the Dear Friends (Final Fantasy) concerts, and PBS is the station that brought us Yanni: Live at the Acropolis, which is easily the best live music event in recorded history, so it looks like there’s some kind of blood-tinged Faustian pact afoot. The February 5th, 2010 performance of Video Games Live at the Lakefront Arena in New Orleans will be taped and aired on PBS during June of next year. Tickets to the event are going on sale this Friday (the 18th), so snap them up if you’re interested. If you don’t want to make it down to N’awlins for the event, firstly, I don’t blame you

During the event, Microsoft also showed off a demo video explaining the concept behind Natal and what it will be able to do for you. We captured it, and have it available for you here. Check it out, and color us excited
AverMedia AVerTV USB HD PVR Poised to Challenge Hauppauge
Getting HD signals from a cable / satellite set-top box to a PC isn’t quite as easy and affordable as one thinks before Hauppauge HD PVR . So, the success of the said USB video box that can effortlessly convert 1080i content from a component cable into H.264 encoded files now invites competition. The AVerTV USB HD PVR is AVerMedia’s answer to the Hauppauge, and both are pretty much the same thing on the technical side. The AVerTV USB HD PVR has S-video, composite and one set of component video inputs, which is the closest you can get to HD quality with HDCP shielding HDMI video stream. The on-board H.264 encoder saves CPU processing time otherwise you would at least need a quad-core to transcode the HD stream in real-time
Now that I am back and fully recovered from CES, I wanted to create a summary post of my coverage to serve as a resource for future product and service announcements so I can see what I thought at the time I was exposed to them in Vegas. I also learned another CES lesson and that was to skip the CES Unveiled event and tack on a day at the other end so I can spend more time covering the show floor. Digital Experience was great as it always is and I actually found Showstoppers to be the best one I have been to yet, except for the lack of large displays showing the national championship football game.
