ben heck’s xbox 360 slim portable hits the web

This is far from the first time that Ben Heck has put together an Xbox 360 portable , but it is the first Xbox 360 Slim portable he’s done – or that anyone has completed, for that matter. The new Xbox 360 Slim portable really is slimmer than his earlier attempts, measuring 1.5″ narrower and 1″ shallower than the previous models. He’s also got a built in power supply and it runs super-quiet thanks to the inclusion of the 360 Slim’s new cooling fan.

Prepare to jailbreak your iOS devices, Geohot returns with surprise Limera1n release

Section: Apple , Communications , Smartphones , Mobile Geohot has returned to the iOS jailbreaking scene with a rather surprise release of limera1n, which is said to be able to jailbreak your iOS 4.0 or 4.1 device. According to the notes on the limera1n website, this is “6 months in the making” and will work on the iPhone 3GS, iPod Touch 3G, iPad, iPhone 4, iPod Touch 4G. Otherwise the good news is that this is an untethered jailbreak. As for support, as of now limera1n is only available for Windows, however a Mac version was promised as “coming soon.” I have yet to use this personally, though I can say that the jailbreak tools coming from Geohot have been more than capable in the past.

NFL Tells Terrell Owens: No Tweet For You

The very outspoken Terrell Owens sent a Tweet out moments before this Sunday’s game where he and the Cincinnati Bengals were set to take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.  In the Tweet T.O. stated that a fan that was wearing his jersey would be getting a football signed by himself and Chad Ochocinco.    The message was posted an hour before game-time which apparently breaks the NFL’s social media rule which prohibits any tweeting within 90 minutes before kick off

Garmin buys MetriGear

Garmin just bought MetriGear, a Silicon Valley company that has created the pedal-based power solution for cycling for improving athletic performance in cycling and other sports. Their product is the Vector which is a pedal-based power solution that integrates MetriGear’s custom force and motion sensor platform into the spindles of bicycle pedals to measure a cyclist’s performance. It even enables the independent measurement of pedal force for each leg. It looks like the latest Edge 800 and Vector will be merged into a package soon, communicating using the ANT+ technology to track your speed, power, distance, time, elevation, calories burned and everything else in between

GearGames Weekly: October 10 – 16

Welcome back to the GearGames weekly video game release feature here at Gear Diary! This is one of those blockbuster weeks, led by Medal of Honor , the latest war shooter to move from the 1940′s to the modern era and bring plenty of controversy with it! This also seems to be the week of the ‘Game of the Year’ editions – we have Uncharted 2 , Borderlands , and the Dragon Age: Origins – Ultimate Edition , all of which add some great stuff at a collection price. The DS and PC have strong showings this week. The DS gets Lufia: Curse of the Sinistrals and Super Scribblenauts , while the PC gets Dynasty Warriors Online , the sequel-expansion The Guild 2: Renaissance , and the mediocre (already out for consoles) Lost Planet 2 . My most anticipated game – ArcaniA – Gothic 4 – was delayed for a week for some odd reason.

New A4 jailbreak debacle puts the brakes on for iPad

If you’ve been waiting in the wings for the next Jailbreak to be release you should know there’s been a bit of a speed bump. [ChronicDevTeam], which has been working on an exploit for A4-based iOS devices called SHAtter,  tweeted last Thursday that the fully tested, untethered, and unpatchable package knows as greenpois0n would be released today. But on Friday [Geohot], who you may remember from the PlayStation 3 Hypervisor exploit , rolled out his own mostly untested and admittedly beta jailbreak called limera1n . So where does that leave the situation? Because [geohot] used a different exploit, the [ChronicDevTeam] decided not to release greenp0ison

Skooba Announces Two New Checkpoint-friendly Bags

A few months back I got the opportunity to try out a checkpoint-friendly bag, and I have to say I was convinced.  If you’re a frequent traveler, or simply sick to friggin’ death about the undress-and-unpack kabuki dance at airports these days, you should seriously consider getting one–they definitely make life at check-through easier. And now good ol’ GD sponsor Skooba is offering a couple of new bags in the checkpoint-friendly category

U.S. Lab Working Hard To Make A Superstar

No, we don’t mean ‘superstar’ in the celebrity sense of the ward. What the National ignition Facility has been laboring over since 1997 is the creation of a “miniature star of Earth”—think of our sun—contained in a chamber where its energy can be converted into power. Lots and lots (and lots) of power. Said power is limitless, by the way

The Microsoft Store….Epic Fail or the next big tech-thing?

It has been quite a while since I visited our local mall. I was on my way to see if the Apple Store had the latest Apple TV available for purchase and was surprised to see this monstrosity….. …..a massive billboard announcing the new Microsoft Store spanning nearly three storefronts in length. The billboard is masking their new store within. I thought it humorous that it is located only three doors down from the Apple Store.

Android Market update brings Froyo Automatic Updating To Eclair devices

Section: Communications , Cellular Providers , Smartphones , Mobile It looks like those sporting an Android 2.1 running device will soon be getting (or have already) an update to the Android Market. This update is sneaky and comes without any effort on your part, thankfully though it brings a nice feature—the ability to automatically update app. The version of the Market is ‘version 2007’ which can be verified by going to Menu -> Settings -> Applications -> Manage applications and then scrolling down to and selecting Market. Once there you should see the version number towards the top. Or perhaps a little easier is to simply launch the Market and choose an app, any app should do and then look for the “Allow automatic updating” along with the check box
